  1. Pretty soft rear quarter panels on the M6!
  2. http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoramic/bmw...-163648995.html
  3. You'll need to create an account to use that site, which is easy enough.
  4. Or at least they thought to have made the spring operating the latch easy enough to replace ;-)
  5. When I went to the BMW factory in Munich last year, they were only producing cooking model 3 series models. They also produced the E90 M3 engine. The e90 M3's were produced further up north in Germany. I could be wrong but I think just the x, z,1 and 3 series cars are also produced outside of Germany. The 5 and 7 series, or at least the majority of them have always been produced at the Dingolfing plant. I do recall looking at an E34 535is once which was build it in SA, and a mate had a very rare e30 325is with the 2.7 six and M3 suspension, which was also built in SA. Weather they were ckd items assembled, im not sure.
  6. This was actually my 2nd car. My first one was the same, except grey and stock standard. It had a disagreement with a tree, and then got put to sleep forever.
  7. This morning I saw an e60 520i with knock off M5 grills on the front guards... Then shortly after i saw this ....
  8. Bought a DICE ipod kit for the M5. The commute just got even better.
  9. Love these best motoring vids! There are some full-length ones floating about too from the late 80's onwards. I'm still on the hunt for some more clips of the e39 m5 being thrashed around Tsukuba.
  10. The F40 is still the only supercar i'd own. Would have been good to see a bit more grip driving instead of Ken Block drifts in slow motion. Otherwise an awesome clip.
  11. Beauty is only skin deep. But with the e60 M5, it's ugly on the inside too - definately a car you'd want to own for the first 40 - 50,000kms and then trade in/flick off for something else. I do like an e60 touring with the M-tech goodies though.
  12. Very nice interior! I wouldn't worry about the vanos too much - they all rattle. What fails with the vanos units in the M5's is well documented and not exactly rocket science, nor costly to fix if you're handy with a multimeter and soldering iron. The GT1 system has a vanos testing programme which will tell you if there are issues. Yes the heritage interiors have the pleated lines in the seats, a bit pipe and slippers looking, especially with my example, but for the price and spec I couldn't resist.
  13. The face lift steering wheel is a lot nicer, and i read that they are the exact same wheel found in the e46 m3 so that makes for a bigger market of available steering wheels. The seats shouldn't be different post or pre facelift. Depends how the example was optioned. You have 'heritage' or 'sport' which seems to be whats in the blue on tardme, as well as mine, the centre sections of the seats are pleated leather. Heritage is usaualy paired with wood trims, so the blue one for sale seems a bit of a hybrid of sport and heritage, or the wood trims were swapped out/painted. Some examples were also spec'd with extended leather, so a full dash trimmed in leather, as well as the other trim panels. Fun to clean... Engine wise, you supposedly get less vanos diesel sounding rattle with the facelift model, as they updated the design of the vanos lubrication system. If you get serious on the blue one, get it hooked up to the GT1 diagnostic system, plenty of testing features.
  14. I'm with AMI, and i've found if you argue enough you can get a genuine windshield. What helped me though is the bad experience in the passed with the aftermarket crap glass repairers seem to endorse. AMI told me that the price difference between oem and aftermarket is not that big (e39 wise) so I simply used that against them and told them to get me a genuine windscreen. I also have house and contents with them so Im sure they appreciate my business with them...
  15. It could easily soak up a few grand though on maintenance if you want it running perfectly. But i'm sure it's a really good example.
  16. DaveO : have you considered this one? http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/...n-613489372.htm I saw a note on the auction saying that he has bought another car, so this needs to go. I could take a look at it for you as it's not too far away from me.
  17. One thing to consider : Open-road driving means your more likely to have an example with paint defects.. stone chips etc
  18. Here is a pic (which does not do justice to the amount of haze, and finger prints left in between the two sheets of glass) It's actually dangerous in direct sun-light. Even glass companys will swear black and blue that the oem quality glass and the oem glass are from the same factory.. Now that may well be true, but I'll bet there are more stringent QC checks before the glass is supplied to vehicle manufacturers like BMW, Mercedes etc.
  19. After multiple arguments with my insurance company, the have decided to replace my windshield with a genuine BMW screen. Hooray!
  20. Or just disconnect the battery. I had mine disconnected for 6 weeks last year when I was in Europe. She started first go when i returned.
  21. I've had some bad experiences with after market windshields on my e39. The first one i had replaced for my 540i had a rippling effect when you looked to the sides of the windshield, then the rain sensor delaminated. I've just had the M5 windscreen replaced with an aftermarket windshield, and this one has some large hand prints in between the glass all over the windshield (yes i've tried cleaning both sides lol). I've asked my insurance company to pay for the difference of a genuine bmw screen this time around. I'm fed up with this 'oem' quality rubbish.
  22. Yep, couple of things done recently : -New pre-cat o2 sensors -New MAF sensors -Full GT1 scan and adaptions reset. -New oil separator hoses, and oil separators cleaned out. I'm happy to report that there is no more 'shaky' hesitation on the odd occasion anymore since doing the above. I'm also happy that the VANOS tests reported no issues. Here's a few pics of the GT1 scan. Thanks to Ray@HELLBM for the assistance.
  23. Loving the sarcastic question/comments on the auction :-) And i'm sure Chris Amon specified springs that lower the ride height that much. Because every road in nz is race track smooth.
  24. Any reason for one with under 100k's on the clock? I've seen 1 in akl being a 2002 model in le mans blue. I think the owner is a member on here.
