Hi Guys, I'm currently in the planning stages of retrofitting a 16:9 monitor in my E46 coupe currently using the standard business cassette. I've got a BM53 as well as the TV receiver to go with it. These parts were inherited to me from a friend who removed it from his M3, but I'm without the original wiring loom. I'm planning to construct my own one, and I've got the pin-outs for the TV receiver and the radio tuner but I'm not exactly sure what each pin is for on the back of the TV Monitor. After many hours of goog'ling, this is the best I've found: Would anyone know is Pin: 1, 2, 7, 11, 12 is on the blue connector? (X18801) and do I need to connect anything the white connector (X18802) if I'm not using a SatNav computer? Any help would be much appreciated. PS: I'm planning to do a complete write up of this "retrofit" if I'm successful Cheers, Andrew

Looks like you've got yourself a good deal there mate. May I suggest changing that "muffler"?

Hi guys, Was wondering if anyones had experience re-gluing the weatherstrip on an E46 coupe? I've done a bit of research on the net and the glue they used in the states isn't available here in NZ. The previous owner of my cars had a couple of goes at it and made a real mess - I've now cleaned off most of the grip glue he used, but theres still some clear stuff remaining. Would love to hear what you guys have tried and what worked and what didn't! Cheers, Andrew.

E46 Harman Kardon Speaker Retrofit

Oh ok, I just heard people on the net saying that the amp is a bit under powered to drive the HK subs - guess I'll get the HK amp and just have a separate amp to drive the sub instead of the mini-amp it comes with. Would anyone know how the HU connects to the amp? I've also had a look at some of the diagrams on RealOEM, it seems like the loom is suppose to have some connection to the amplifier but mine doesn't seem to have it. Or is it tucked away somewhere? (I've taken off the left rear quarter panel cover off, but nothing there apart from the stacker). -
I have a Bel 845Sti. I've never really used it myself as it came free with my car. Been told by the original owner that its quite good. Let me know if your interested.

E46 Harman Kardon Speaker Retrofit

Thanks Ray, I've also got the 16:9 TV monitor which I'm planning to install eventually but at this stage I'm still trying to figure out which bits and pieces I need. As of now, I *think* I still need the following: Amp (Haven't decided whether I want the HK amp or aftermarket) Tv Tuner Module Radio Receiver Module Sat nav (Optional) Looms Let me know which bits you've got! Cheers -
Hi all, I've recently acquired the full 10 Harman Kardon Speaker system for my E46 coupe which is currently using the business cassette with no amplifier. I'm in the process of installing the speakers, but found that wiring for the tweeters at the front is different from my current set up. For my existing tweeters, the signal is tapped directly off the mid bass and soldered onto the tweeter, whereas for the HK system, its got a separate 4 Pin plug (which of I don't have). So my question is whether I should just wire the HK system the same? Or is the HK tweeters suppose to be driven separately through a filtered signal from the amp? I currently don't have an amp, but I intend to put in an after market one in the future. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Andrew

I am keen on the waterpump and the thermostat if you decide to part it out and if it fits a 96 E36 4dr 323.

sticky. -
Hey dude, I agree with both arguments out there, but since you've lost your license, I reckon it'll be a good chance for you to fix her up and get it going before your allowed to drive again. It'll be a good goal.

Nice car dude. I check it out when you drive it out to morning tea / lunch, had been wondering who owned it !

Thanks Glenn, I haven't had a chance to look at the inside yet. I've just taken a picture of the rear RHS - theres plenty there!

Hi, I've just taken my car for a WOF this morning (E46 330CI) and its failed due to "low rear brake pads". I've had a look at it and theres roughly 4mm left and the light hasn't even come on in my dashboard. So my question is, should the pads need changing even before the light comes on? Or are these dudes just trying to land themselves some business? Any input much appreciated. Cheers, Andrew

Congrats Marcus, looks great! Just out curiosity, do all 530s have single exhaust pipe?
-
330CI Manual, I get 9.5km/L on Shell 95.

Do you guys change when the service light comes on? Or every 10000k?

Does that mean that the "grade" of the oil doesn't matter so much... but the quality of the oil is more important? For example: It might be better to put it quality 5-30 instead of el cheapo 10-40? Does it matter whether its full synthetic or not?
-
My car has done 130ks I have not personally done a cooling overhaul... and I ve had the car for the past 30,000k...
-
Hi there, I think I am due for a coolant flush. I was thinking maybe I should change my thermostat as well... is that necessary? How often should you change the thermostat? How much is a thermostat? Everything is working fine atm... so I am just thinking preventative maintenance... What other stuff should I change? Apart from the water pump which I think costs too much.. and I think I have the metallic impeller one (given my car is a late 96).. cheers!

I am using Castrol Edge 5-30 Full Synthetic on my E36 with 130k on the clock (runs really good and burns very little oil) Is that oil too thin for me? What are you guys using?
-
Hey, could be interested. Do you have the model and a pic? Cheers.

Hi there, I'm looking to upgrade my "business tape" stereo on my e46 coupe. Mainly, I would like to have aux in, but better SQ would also be appreciated. Hit me up with what you guys got! (With price tag of course) Also, would be interested in speaker upgrades too! Cheers, Andrew

First of all, welcome. If you haven't, I suggest you have a chat with Glenn from Botany Motor Worx - one of the sponsors here. I remember someone asking a similar question in the past, and from what I remember, the N42 is a PITA + expensive to repair due to the valvetronic system it uses. Perhaps do a search and you might find something. Cheers.

Hi, I have recently acquired an 01 E46 coupe, but I can't figure out why the air conditioning always comes on when i turned the key to position 2. Is this something to do with the profile in the key? Or is it something else altogether? How da heck do I turn it off? Cheers, Andrew
