I think BMW gave up on the E38 completely at the same time as they upgraded the E39 to the 3 litre 6 cylinder.

Let`s face it, 4 owners, NZ new, full dealer history. None of those owners have done anything wrong. But just have a look at the evil of depreciation. Which means...(ahem) that it`s affordable for someone...The weird thing is that it`s probably cheaper than a good E39 M5 right now.

I`ve been looking at these as well and let`s face it, petrol is getting cheaper. However most of the e39 540`s on Trademe have been on there for months. I`ll bet you could burgle a good one for a lot less than the Ashburton car, that`s just the way the market views them unfortunately.At those prices I`m worried I`ll have a few too many one night and hit the `Buy now` button, then wake up the next morning realising that i`ve got one E39 too many....

Um...Mac, you did get her for free which is possibly why you were `a bit lazy about not replacing` the belts, Maybe a free Toyota would be more forgiving.... On a lighter note, I`ve never received a free car in my life, I think you`ve done ok anyway...

It`s beautiful ,but if TJ is right, then it shouldn`t be appreciating in value..the market never works that way. Which is a shame.

Drive from St Albans out through the red zone residential area all the way to New Brighton.Come back, and marvel at the suspension system on an e39. Chalk one up for BMW...seriously useful cars I think....

Great car for the money...but I still love reading car ads, maybe it`s my sense of humour. `No problems overtaking, tan leather `...yep, that would make all the difference alright......

Great buying...they`ve got more `toe` than people think. Mine`s a keeper. NZ new they were about $90000.Get a good mechanic to keep an eye on them and they`re an amazing ride ...

Maybe it was the first lot of photos but I thought the blue was just ok....you know ?? but now I think that colour is just awesome, well done !!

A lot going for it...1500 cc`s and a manual gear box ...and we`re talking the good old days of Russian car making...this`ll pull $4000 at least once the auction interest starts to build..

The engine bay looks gorgeous...clearly no expense spared by current (Fastidious) owner to keep this gleaming museum piece at a level of excellence that ordinary people could only dream about....and don`t forget, we are talking 1600 cc`s here......................................

I wonder if they`d take $575000 cash,,,it`s all I can scrape up right now until payday,,,,,??
