Well the only part of my E30 that's not been removed fixed replaced or adjusted is the engine block. Oh and the carpet, the carpets never been removed either At the moment I have 3 vehicles to choose from, both are probably as fast and more economical than the e30 But i always choose the E30.... you wont actually feel bad untill you add up your folder of receipts. Trust me don't go there......

haha good effort How about ///Maintenance I would buy one of those !
-
Only I'm not sure where they came from or if i can get a hold of the invoice/receipt ( they were a present form a mate ) On the bright side, i would rather have a faulty ring on the bench rather than inside the engine.

Its a good thing Nissan's don't race in the E30 Series Another good Practical Reply Kerrylnz. A 5 angle or "suitable" valve job is on the list. More and more it seem the word "porting" is a bad one to use Perhaps "blue printing" is a better way to describe it. Anyhow if the V6 Heads were as god as my E30 heads (quality of casting) i would not need to go near them with anything but some degrease.r I may get a stock head and a finished head flow benched to see the difference before they get machined up. so that i have some real proof of the worth of this project before results can be skewed by valve work.

THAT !!! is a brand new Mahle Piston Ring. Popped it in the piston ring expander, aligned it all up. started to expand it, this was the first one too and it didn't feel normal. Then SNAP The others felt nice and springy as they expanded so hell if i know. Its not like i can take them back either. Uh Gutted, yes i know how to use a piston ring expander. So that's it, long weekend of engine building = fail Bank account next Tuesday is going to be $160 poorer.

Thats a good no S**T reply camB, My intentions are to do a good solid tidy up but not to disturb anything that should stay as it is. 1.Match the intake ports 2. tidy up the casting on these heads by giving it a good uniform finish across the entire length of the port. - I have been recommended to use up to 80 grit on a cartridge roll. 3.Polish up the combustion chambers ( boosted motor ) 4. Tidy up the exhaust ports and try and smooth out any real rough or sharp edges while again keeping the original shape of the port. I do not intend to do any actual reshaping or removing any amount of material from the heads, only what might be considered finishing work. I have seen flow bench charts of the same heads with up to a 15% increase in flow from doing a similar amount of work as what I intend to do. The heads are not the most sophisticated and neither is the quality of the casting. Thanks for the reply's guys. DRTDVL- you information is consistant with what has been explained to me by others thanks.

Hi Guys I have recently purchased a Die Grinder and a vast array of grits and cartridges for doing a fairly good tidy up job on a Pair of Nissan v6 Heads. ( 2 opposed valves similar to the E30 head, camshaft in center ect) Despite not being a BMW head, would the forum be interested in my time to do a write up of materials, methods and the process of doing casting tidy ups, polishing combustion chambers and of course port matching intake manifolds etc ? I am a DIY guy and Have no experience, however I have had an offer from an experienced engine builder to show me some stuff for keeping things inside the head tidy to improve the efficiency. Also i thought this topic might be a good place for others to leave their idea's information and experience on this type of engine work as a reference for others.( including me ) to refer back to. ok .... whichever new springs you get 35mm drop lowers the car nicely and you still wont have problems with hitting stuff or with WOF. H&R seem to be the current popular choice but the Eibach's in my E30 are fantastic, nice firm ride but still very cumfy. The Koni shocks could be an advantage if you are going to see some Track time(adjustability), otherwise the bilsteins are really really good.

I need it gone before i can't help myself and end up doing it anyway. Its so much fun to drive it should be Illeagil I don't really want to sell but its sell the E30 or get a bank loan to pay for my Hilux Surf. Its a good car, Needs to be sold. I would like to see somebody engine swap it and get the most out of the work i already did.

The Koni’s Came from Hi Tek’s M3 & the Swaybars Came from Riley’s 340i. The 5spd Manual Conversion was supplied by David – Silver Fox. Clutch is an LUK unit , springs came from To gate’s E30. Some minor things about the car There is a few hard to see dints on the car. One on the front Left Guard & another left Rear door. The Diff has had new seals fitted and it mostly pretty quiet but a light whirring can be heard at motorway speed. If another diff is provided I will be happy to fit this for the new owner. The noise is not the crown wheel and pinion I had that happen to me on another diff I think this noise could possibly be a bearing needs replaced, as its not high pitched or a loud noise. Leather Seats are in good condition with no rips or tears, however there is minor cracking on the leather as you would expect on a 20 year old car. Dash has the normal e30 cracks; the cracking is very minor compared to most others. Misc The car is in good condition and drives amazingly well with all the suspension work. With LSD and a 2.7 conversion (my car has the correct reconditioned 2.0 head) this would be brilliant. I am only selling as I have spent far too much time and money on this car and I really need to get onto my other project car. Test Drives are welcome and price is negotiable. Alternatively, it could be a good starting point for a club/track day car. $3400 ono. /make an offer Car is located in Rangiora North Canterbury- But I am happy to bring the car to you in Christchurch if you are serious about viewing it & driving it. E36 Rack into an E30 Conversion Write up
tibbs.james replied to tibbs.james's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
The new position of the Steering gear is a LOT closer to the Manifold. I would say if you have headers the E36 rack will not fit. My car runs the Cast Iron M20B20 Face lift single piece manifold for reference. The poly replaces the rubber in the factory steering linkage, and if you did try to use the factory rubber you would notice the bolt holes do not align up and that it would not be thick enough. The poly is the only suitable replacement that is going to stand up to the twisting, temperature and vibration. As the poly works like just like the OEM rubber donuts I believe it to be the only thing safe enough. With the steering of your car you can't really minimize "expense or effort" on this one. Maybe on a sway bar bushing sure but not on the steering shaft. Its your steering ...... -

E36 Rack into an E30 Conversion Write up
tibbs.james replied to tibbs.james's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
I got a brand new WOF today, I pointed out my urethane steering spacer, wof man told me replacement urethane is allowed as long as it operates the same as OEM, and does not foul or bind up. I also pointed out that i had fitted a steering rack from another model of 3 series, and he was quite happy that because it had not been heated cut or welded that it met the criteria. He went on to explain that as long as its an identical part to the original that all would be fine. I read up on the rules myself and technically this does require a cert, because its not the exact same part but with a pretty thorough inspection it all came up good, I would put this is the same basket as having a 2.5 motor swap on a 2.0 car legally it requires certified but people actually don't get it done. I am not looking for a debate here I just with to say that if you do this swap that is it %100 your own responsibility to make sure that YOUR car meets the rules. -
E36 Rack into an E30 Conversion Write up
tibbs.james replied to tibbs.james's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
Hi Guys Tonight i got some good work on the car done. I went to see my engineering friend who tig welded my steering lines together, he drilled the inside of the fat end then countersunk the thin end "step or lip" was a smooth transitiom for he fluid inside the pipe and proceeded to weld together, quite simple really! Here is the result. And you ask how does it drive ? the answer is AMAZING !!! For steering around corners that i had to really " turn" the wheel its more like a nice fast flick and its all done. It feels very responsive And I am loving Evey minute of it. However I am considering placing both my spacers underneath the steering rack to allow more room for the power steering lines as they are rather squashed in there right now. And the more i think of it the 6mm spacer between the poly and the upper U joint could be removed and this would allow more of the centering pin to slide up into the Upper U joint as per a factory one. The E30 power steering pump seems to do a good job with no groans or moans and the steering effort is about the same as before, it seems to not require any more effort. All in all I rate this mod 10/10, next best thing i did since 325 Swaybars and Koni's adjustables. This mod is only the next step once you have your suspension sorted out.
