  1. Back to brakes Henry, My datsun will run 280mm Skyline GTST rotors and Nissan 4 pots, factory 15" rims would clear this if I used something like a 7mm spacer. The factory zx rims don't look to have as much clearance as the 15" BBS weaves you might be surprised what you can run with a fairly minimal spacer and some slightly longer bolts. you are welcome to borrow a 4 pot calipar if you ever want to take some measurements
  2. I got my generic one from Repco, it was like $5
  3. I had a kawasaki dirt bike frame powder coated 5 or 6 years ago, my uncles old shop did a stunning job for me and it certainly was very hard wearing and very resistant to chips and scratching. like has been mentioned, its all about the preparation. I Got looked after because i was family but you get what you pay for and I still paid lots .
  4. the reason i put an e36 rack in my car was not for steering speed, it was because i was on my 3rd E30 rack that had failed. I would be surprised if your old e30 rack holds up with a quickener, they seem to be made of cheese and are very expensive to rebuild.
  5. Nice Vid Henry ! after watching that vid i thought to ask are you still wrestling with an original E30 steering rack ? If so you deff want to get in there with an E36 rack swap cheap upgrade and even the slowest e36 rack still makes steering 10x better.
  6. DO want !! But Must Resist 70's awesomeness .......... I would fully buy that if i lived in welly and didn't live at my parents house who would say no to another car. Good luck with sale, that thing must be a fairly rare find as mentioned
  7. Forrest got the last 40mm I bought mine from "Mulford Plastics" in Chch Look up the phone book for suppliers of engineering plastics. 30cm was the smallest length they would do for me, i had to ask nicely as well ( not being a trade customer wanting kms of the stuff )
  8. $700 is about the most you would want to pay for a complete kit. need to factor in most kits go for around $500-$600 and after that you should use a new clutch kit and have the master & slave cylinders rebuilt or replaced. Most kits don't seem to include the gear lever surround or a gear knob If all the parts were provided i would thing its a good 4-5 hours work for somebody. apply standard rates of $70 per hour and that's about what the labor is worth.
  9. For my 300zx I bought a 30cm piece of Automotive grade Red Urethane rod 3" diameter Cut to length in a band Saw Drilled out to accommodate a steel sleeve, + high tensile bolt and lock nuts problem solved. 30cm of poly rod was $98 from a plastics specialist place and of course you get to keep the rest for other projects & use what you need. edit > my E30 engine mounts are almost Identical to the ones i made for the ZX
  10. I Rang AMI which and told them that my car had a couple of things done to it, and they told me the same deal basically that legally lowered wof standard was all ok but that it was totally different as soon as I add mag wheels My mate bought a fairly standard 1996 Primeria while ago 5 spd Manual with mags about $6k worth, he got refused insurance, then he got a job at the insurance company and now has fully discount insurance !
  11. Flake, get a 4.1 diff and it will go nuts the 3.25 diff kills it and it sure is a weird diff ratio
  12. Nice Car Nathan !! Funnily enough that's the car your mates lowering springs came from.
  13. Ive had water up to the rego label already ! Good thing it has a snorkel, this weekend its getting lifter and when i can afford some massive tires they will be going on there as well. This one is good value, has a rebuilt motor, new everything else, its tidy and everything works on it. I do want a BMW again already
  14. So after telling myself i was going to sell the E30 for at least 7 months it finally happened and i was fully sad the night before it went. Now i have a perfect off road/race car tower I didn't think it was possible to go slower than a m20b20 with a tall as diff ratio but I found a way !!!!! So I'm still a BMW enthusiast, and when the right one pops up maybe an E28 with a tidy body needing a motor and trans I will be all over it. Until then I will be lurking around for my daily bimmersport fix as usual
  15. Yeah but it looks way hot on AC'S and Michelin Slicks !
  16. Nice Vid Riley Had mega fun going for a ride first thing in the morning. It looks like none of our handy work fell apart edit > Love it when Henry says "This thing is a weapon"
  17. Could you drop the fuel pressure ? maybe just knock it back slowly until it runs and then from there you could adjust your fuel maps slowly and bring the pressure back up to keep everything nice and even ?
  18. 1) The system mentioned above is used on a number of forums I am a member off, it seems a common enough system and works well where i am a member. 2) I am personally not worried if we keep some of the offensive words the way they are or if we block them out/replace with other words. However I think that whatever happens a consistent approach needs to be employed as it would annoy me considerably to find that one particular offensive word was blocked when others were not.
  19. Henry Those camber tops are a nice bit of Kit Riley and I fitted them to his shocks this morning They are the hotness.
  20. HB Atta !! +1 on the skid !!
  21. I Don't see why you wouldn't just pull of an e30 hub Send it to an engineer Get it replicated but in 5x120 with a larger OD, no sleeves required and it, you could even make it thicker to act like a built in wheels spacer if desired. It would be expensive in the cost of materials and machine work but in theory its the most reliable way to do it and the least obvious that its been modified.
  22. Yeah but.... you would sell your soul for lip like that
  23. Hi Guys I have recently bought a E30 diff thinking it was a 3.64 but it turned out to be a 3.25 this was replacing another 3.64 This is all good probably a genuine mistake blah whatever. what i really want to know is a) why the hell would bmw make a 3.25 small case diff what did it come from. with a Getrag 260 its running around 2200rpm in 5th
  24. Down to $150, as mentioned to Brent in another forum. Cheers James
  25. freight is around $80-90 inc GST Ray has just sent a box down to me from Auckland so i can give you an exact figure once they charge my credit card Oh yes $150 for the box was my thinking, much less for it than that it might be worth while myself keeping it laying about. Cheers James
