  1. Justin Neil Lower Styx Road 03 329 8518- tell him sam or I sent you Last week my 300zx gearbox was sharing his table with Sam's diff for his v8 he did a beautiful job with Rileys & my Gearbox , Sam is having his diff setup by him too so he can probably let you know how much it cost He machines his own clutch pack shims to suit the diff instead of just opening a packet that cost a golden brick or two
  2. for 25 K I think sell it, you can buy/build another fast car, but the opportunity to have no student loan at the end of university is a pretty big opportunity. and you could still go and buy a really decent car
  3. Time to tighten the LSD while its apart ? sorry about off topic a 4.1 sounds like the business ! can't wait to feel the difference on the 22nd
  4. I did 5000 Road km's on medium compound Hankook semi's and the tread depth hardly moved from new. they gripped a lot better in the wet than he Chinese tires they replaced, they warmed up well and made the lack of an LSD less of an issue. I have no experience on any other brand but they were cheaper with 10x the grip of the road tires I had so I give them thumbs up especially at the price you can get them for.
  5. Eibach 35mm Lowered Front & rear I think the Sump was 120mm from the ground. ( sorry I don't know the other measurements ) And it still looked jacked up higher than my Hilux does currently
  6. The Gearbox Issue for the VH41 is not as bad as one might think, People seem to think of a W or R series toyota gearbox as being the only worth while unit with a remove able bell housing that can be adapted to other engines. Borg Warner T5 Gearbox from a Mustang / Camaro / Holden /Ford Has the remove able bell-housing and could be adapted to nearly anything with a lot of information available for it. They are known to take substantial abuse behind v8 engiens they were factory fitted behind, dont be fooled these gearboxs may sound old school but they were put behind many OEM brands and produced right up until the late nineties http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-253278695.htm http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-253265953.htm there is normally one or two on trade me for a good price the newer versions have a higher torque capacity and are cheaper to upgrade or rebuild.
  7. For a real trademe win how about this one http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-252296274.htm yes it might not be pretty but you find a faster car for that kind of money done to such a high standard and I will agree that you found a better deal. I would still rock that Caged E36 M3 to go and buy milk
  8. Ok music I wont admit to would be Lady Gaga Neil Diamond That Chingy Right thur song Maybe Some Enya but thats not embarissing becasue its quite classy music Otherwise I'm Normally rocking out to Metallica, Iron Maiden AC DC led Zepplin the WHO & all the other typical rock bands that are considerd classic but still get heaps of radio time
  9. Andrew your dad & the Wilson Bro's Team is Awesome The bearing which was going to cost around $250 all up ended up costing around $180, so i decided to buy some Taps, dies, handles & holders at the same time. He also did me a trade price on those tools too. Even if i need to drive into Christchurch from Rangiora to buy tools or engineering supplies It is absolutely worth the effort as I was very very well looked after in such a busy shop I could not be happier as these guys have made it able to meet my deadline to have my car at the Track day for the 22nd. Nobody else could get the bearing for another 4 weeks and even then it was out of stock.
  10. I would desperately like to see it in my parents shed So i can take it for Hoon none the less this is a real possibilty
  11. Hi all My dad found this on Trade me, he has had plenty of river going Jet boats over the years. he is thinking about buying it It is the first time I have seen the BMW v12 in a boat. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/B...n-251447550.htm Looks like awesome fun lake boating in summer & for some of the higher flowing rivers such as the Rakia & the Waimack Enjoy
  12. HT your dad and his crew did it ! He had a guy working on it before I had even phoned up and his work made phoned me at 5pm to say they found a bearing in Australia and they were also chasing up another lead on the same one for a lower cost. I was told to sit down before they told me the price 190 + GST + Shipping but i am still over the moon as they are the first people who can actually get one. A transmission shop in Chch has a dusty box on their shelf that is supposed to be the correct bearing, so i have sent a mate into Chch with a sample to check it out. Either Way I know I can get one, but it has taken since Friday last week to find one.
  13. I think Do it with a backup plan so that can be reversed if sh*t hits the fan Nobody wants a car with huge electrical problems but yes it does look good when the engine bay is nice and clean
  14. HT you have PM If anybody else can Google up a storm Post any info for Torrington DK-55836 Drawn Cup Needle Roller Bearing Timken bearings list it as a wheel bearing and this is incorrect
  15. Just another wee bit of an Update Engine is in the car ready to run, however I am being held up by the offending Gearbox. Here you can see the Gearbox Stripped down at the engineers waiting for these 2 crazy difficult to find bearings to come in from the USA this has been holding me up for ages and is why the engine is in the car without the gearbox As i simply have to press on and get all the work done, even if it means fitting the box under the car ( no big deal I have done my old E30 twice and the 300zx has a removable bell housing meaning I can fit the bell housing then fit the gearbox onto the back of it for a really easily accessible change over ) you can also see my polyurethane semi solid gearbox mount & Cross member mount so that this will complement the engine mounts, the bushings taped up have been filled up to reduce flexing to make it all nice and solid. Last of all you can see how much a pain in the ass this bearing is, very sepcific only the one company makes them and no other brand has a matching part very frustrating
  16. Thanks Mark It has been a lot of work and there is still a LOT More to go But i feel Like I am on the home stretch after such a long time off the road. Will you be at Ruapuna taking photos and video ?
  17. Everything is connected up to make it run, Oil pressure came up really quick so i can concentrate on getting it fired and timed correctly on the dizzy. Some wiring needs tidied up but I am not so concerned as the whole intake manifold has to be removed to allow proper access to change over to double valve springs once the cams have done their 20 minutes to allow the surfaces to harden. ( Cams have to be run in on the outer spring only when fitted with higher spring rates ) With some new petrol I am hoping for a sweet running engine.. watch this space for a start up video
  18. I got some good work done on my day off (Friday) and all of satturday It mat not look like much, but to clean all the brackets, port match exhayst manifolds, find the correct bolts, paint up heat sheilds ect It all takes a lot more time than expected. however after all of this the engine fits as snug as anything, the turbo side is fairly close to the frame rail however the engine mount was shimmed slightly to give ample clearance. All going to plan 4 or 5pm Sunday Afternoon it should be all wired up and running
  19. I would suggest a couple of things might make life a bit easier. 1) Having a proper workspace and beg/borrow/steal some tools for the day 2) take your time or maybe do some work in blocks of a hour or so 3) Have a practical minded friend or somebody help you out for the day All of this means you will have less stress and more brains with the correct tools to do things carefully and sensibly and without damaging stuff and it comes apart. I have done a dash swap on a Nissan bluebird and it was an absolute nightmare but by following members advice on here it would have been a hell of a lot easier
  20. that is the 88-89 Face lift Z31 nearly all of them were LHD and sold in America the rounded front end is a popular swap for my early style Z31 That car shown has an aftermarket front Lip with Datsun 240ZG Flares on it I do believe that guy is on the Z31 forums I visit and sold his S13 drift car to build and drift in that.
  21. Some Nissan Fan Boys are in LOVE with BMW's too
  22. I can't wait to give the party pedal a squeeze myself. The closest i have come to driving this car is sit behind the seat and make pretend vroom vroom engine noises.
  23. This is pretty much it Nearly ready to nail the gearbox onto the back ( when it arrives from its rebuild ) The timing marks are not on the piss the white marks are not in the right place. I am happy with this weekends progress, just need those exhaust manifolds ....
  24. Yesterday My Machine shop man gave me a call to say my cylinder heads were ready. So i got right into it. Heads were tested, faced, 3 angle valve job with 30deg back cut, 8mm exhaust studs were drilled to 10mm and re fitted with special order high tensile ones. Fitted up with kelford cams & Schneider double valve springs. And of course with any engine rebuild Camblet,Waterpump,Tensioner & Thermostat. Still Waiting on exhaust manifolds & Gearbox to come back from my engineering. Tomorrow I will hopefully get all the accessories cleaned painted & bolted up.
