For installs in Wellington, get in touch with a guy called Dave. He's on nzicemag forums and goes under the name of DeeCee. There's alot of DIYers down there who down excellent installs. That Fusion PP amp is a 4x125rms and isn't a great deal for $400. Average but you're not getting a bargain. What's your entire budget? And what are you looking for out of it? Do you want big bass or more of a sound quality focus

Sorted. Main aerial connection on rear of headunit wasn't mating properly.

There a problem specific to Pioneer in the RCA earth tracks inside the headunit. Causes exactly the symptoms described.

Re-installed my factory system and everything works except the FM reception which is abysmal. I had no problems with FM reception on the aftermarket unit I just pulled out. No wires were chopped or cut while installing or uninstalling the aftermarket stereo so I'm a bit baffled. I've fiddled with the aerial on the back of the headunit and it feels secure, likewise than small metal connector in the middle. The aerial amp (if that's what it is) is in the boot above the cd changer. This seems secure and wiring is firmly clipped in. Any suggestions on where to look next.

The Alpine type S are horrible IMO. If you're just looking for coaxial 5.25 on a tight budget then this is what you want http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-278608004.htm I had the 6.5 version and they go well. For the effort you've put in, spend a bit more and get component fronts. The fronts are the most important bit of the stereo system so suggest you re-consider your no frills type approach. There's no real point changing the rear speakers. 4" aren't going to do that well regardless of what you buy. Spend more cash on the front speakers instead. Even if you've got the 5.25 rears I'd leave them factory and spend the cash on the fronts instead.

Friend has bought a 318 e46 touring and has the horrible 15" factory alloys on them. He wants something that retains the factory look but a bit bigger and smarter. Looking for 17" alloys. With or without tyres.

The 6x9 are advertised as 700watt but the small print says 60rms. So guessing 500watt = 40rms. On topic, the CTX5 I had for sale went out the door today. I don't have anything left that's suitable for rear E30.

I've got some brand new Image Dynamics CTX5 for $90+ shipping (or pick up from the Nth Shore). They're 75rms and sound pretty damn good. I don't like the grills though, would be better to try and retain the factory grill for that clean look. I run a pair as rears in my e39

To double check your install, go to the bavariansoundworks website, plug in you car details and search for subwoofer or speaker upgrades. Then go to the "Install info" tab there's step by step instructions including which wires to tap into.

Ditch those blue connectors. They often fail. Good luck doing anything to the front. BMW has made it particularly difficult to improve

If there's no warranty, then undo the plate on the base of the amp giving you access to the guts of the amp. Alot of the RCA connectors are hollow all the way through so you may be able to push them out from the inside. Another option could be hot glue which should come off your rca terminals once set and hopefully would have enough grip to pull the pins out. I've never tried that so that's at your own risk.
