Not sure about wiring hole, but glovebox has two screws near the vents, one either side near the the bottom of the glovebox door and then a 10mm bolt behind the glovebox light (just pop out the light and unbolt with a socket wrench. Good luck!

Nosepanel, kidney grilles, side marker indicators, engine (of course) magazine nets on back of front seats and another net on boot floor, shifter knob (as you mentioned) I think that's all... My '94 E36 has driver and passenger airbags.... If your son is 16 a 318i manual would be a good little car.... you'd need to look hard to find one with ABS and airbags. The sportier 318is should be optioned with those however Good luck!

FYI.... check your fusebox first..... fuses 16 and 41 are for the Auxillary fan. I did this today and fuse 41 was blown. Popped a new fuse in and now it's all fixed woohoo!!!

DICE Link is a product that can integrate an ipod into your factory stereo system and allow you to control the ipod through the headunit. A quick Google should throw up heaps of info.

I'd keep it the original colour and forget about lowering/kits etc.... it's a 520i, not a performance machine... I think it would look best if you could upgrade it to executive spec (leather etc), and leave it at that. I'm interested to see what you do with the car, as my grandmother is selling my father her '83 528i tourist delivery car and we're looking at restoring it.
