That's actually pretty good.... hmmmm.

Yeah, I've seen Sam driving down Papanui Road quite a bit... haven't spotted the V8 though. When you live in Merivale you've gotta drive a Bimmer, it's compulsory.
-
You've managed to keep quiet about this until now? Wow... this is going to be awesome. The bill from RaceFX won't be awesome, but the car will.
-
Haha... yeah, I live along there. Just parked it on the street cos I was going out again. Was it over the weekend? If so, would have been going straight back out for another blast to "run in" the work done on it!

I don't really know, how do you tell? .... they're only 15's though, if I was really going to chuck some money at wheels I'd find a set of 16's.

The shiny paint is helped along a bit by the "Shadow/highlight" tool in P'shop. It is my friend.

Photoshop: A few clicks to give your car a sick stance. Real life: More than a few hundred dollars to do the same.

This car is the gayest thing in gaytown. The wheels suck and the tinted headlight covers make it look an old man with those sunglasses that fit over other glasses.

GL with the sale! FYI: The rear bumper cover is actually a BBS item. Quite rare... worth fixing.

Let me know how you get on and what the $$$ is likely to be. Here's a DIY, there are plenty more out there.... Restoring split piece wheels

Like a kid in a candy store eh? Welcome to manual gearbox ownership... it's a blast!
-
Haha... I laughed heartily when I saw that! And I'm the first to admit that only a BMW driver would attempt to cross a flooding road in his four door sedan!
-
Oh wow... I'm scared to think what mine might look like. Are you going to weld a brand new replacement panel back in or 2nd hand?
-
Yes the engine will mate up to your gearbox. Expect to pay someone in the region of 1000 dollars for them to swap the engines over for you. Also, depending on the condition of the engine you may need to have a bit of work done to it. What sort of k's has it done? I've just basically had the the entire head of my engine rebuilt (or close enough), plus belts, waterpump etc and it stung me over 3 grand. Considering another member on here purchased a very nice 325i auto recently for about $3000 I'd say the cheapest option (unless you can do an engine swap and rebuild yourself) is to sell your car and simply buy a tidy 325i.

Yeah... but it's not a real M5. Joking! GL with the sale.

Welcome mate.... enjoy your sweet new E30.

My OBC backlight doesn't work. Everything I read on the subject says it's a PITA to remove the OBC to get to the light-bar that needs replacing. "You'll have to remove your glovebox", "you'll need to remove half of your interior including the gear lever and handbrake surrounds" they say. One article mentions that it can be done without tearing apart your car, but only if you have tiny carny hands. I don't, but they are rather slender... so I thought I'd give it a shot. And it was way easier than I expected. P.S: Sorry for the crappy phone pics, They make it look like I have albino ghost hands or something. STEP 1: Remove your stereo. I don't have one installed currently (because I knew I'd just have to take it out again when I decided to do this). STEP 2: Pop out the hazard lights switch, and the rear demister switch. Unplug and set aside. STEP 3: Remove the ashtray/ciggy lighter. The reason for this will be clear later on. STEP 4: Up under the switches you removed are two phillips head screws holding the top of the console in place. Here: And here: Remove them (obviously) STEP 5: Two more phillips head screws are located here: And here: You'll need a stumpy screw driver to remove these screws as they are located at a tricky angle. This is probably the hardest part of this DIY. STEP 6: Once you've wrestled the screws free, you can gently prise the left of the console forward. Then pull the whole thing to the left to unclip the right hand side. STEP 7: The console is free and can be moved forward about 5 centimetres. Don't pull too hard because the heater controls and OBC are still attached to the plastic panel. Now the slightly tricky bit, which you need carny hands for. Remove the four phillips head screws holding the OBC to the console. You won't get any sort of screwdriver behind there so grip the screwdriver bit with some pliers and unscrew one corner at a time, being careful not to drop the screwdriver bit. The bottom right screw can actually be removed with a short screwdriver if your hand is flexible enough. STEP 8: The OBC is free! Now simply pull the lightbar out from the right hand side with your pliers, replace it (or solder in some new 6v globes) and put everything back together in reverse order! This took me about an hour to do and I suck at DIY'ing. So it's certainly not as hard as some forum posts on the net make it out to be. Hope this helps some DIY noobs like me to get their OBC glowing in the dark again.

I'm gonna refurb my wheels at some point... will do them myself to save money. I've been reading that it can take a good 10 hours of work per wheel! Oh well. Wheels are a good thing to start on though.... clean wheels make a car look fantastic, even if the rest isn't perfect.
-
Do it! Come for a burn tomorrow in my car, just got it back today. For comparison's sake.

Andy Knight? Toyota Racing Series driver and now he drives GT3's I believe. The RX7's aren't that quick.... didn't even know you could get that model in non-turbo version! So much fun, I thought I was going like a bat out of hell in the FF, but when I looked at the video footage my old man took it didn't look quick at all!

I'd say buy the 2.5 for originality's sake.... but then again a 2.7 conversion already done for you is rather tempting. (also, if you bought the 2.5 then we'd be matching colours! ) Man I hope I get my car back by the weekend!!!! Itching to drive it again!

Here's the Haynes Manual ... covers E28 and E30 as well. E28_and_E30_Haynes_Manual.pdf

+1 ... have done that too.... soooo much fun. Take some cash, cos I can guarantee you'll want to do extra laps.
-
Have a PDF copy of the E28 Haynes manual... will upload to this thread after work tonight.
