Am in the process of doing this ATM. Not, with a performance cam... but having the stock cam refurbished. One thing I've learnt about the process, is that once you get the head off an M20 (especially one with decent k's on the clock), you find more and more things that need replacing. Mine started off with just needing to replace the head studs and cam. Now we're onto replacing exhaust guides, relapping valves, head skimming, new cambelt, waterpump and tensioner bearing etc etc. I'm having the work done at DCH motorsport, and for the original work of replacing the cam and head studs they quoted me 10 hours labour. The other thing you may need to look at is with a performance cam I believe you often need stiffer valve springs.

Sweet... what a journey! Car looks great and I bet you feel great knowing that everything mechanical is sorted now, so no further problems for a while (I hope) Needs black door cards and carpet.... but apart from that, nice M!!!

As I was reading your post I started thinking.... "Pot, say hello to kettle"... but then you beat me to it! My opinion: Not everyone can afford the "better" car outright, so instead of catching the bus until they save enough money to buy the car they "should" buy, they buy the car they want and proceed to drip feed money into it as it becomes available. You may say "that's stupid, you'll never get your money back", but hey... don't we all drive BMW's? When was the last time any of us made a profit on a car we've onsold??!!! Owning and loving a car is a hobby, it's a passion, it's heaps of fun. And like most hobbies (golf, travel, video games etc) you never see the money you invest ever again. But hey, you had a blast along the way right?

It's an import... so I'd highly doubt the K's are genuine. (The head's been reconditioned... that wouldn't need doing at under 150 clicks.) Price is also on the high side for a 318, import, in what looks to be average condition.

I'm not a member, but I have been on a run with members of the Christchurch branch. They were a great group of people, very friendly and basically just love BMW's as much as we all do... modified or not. It kind of sounds like I'm talking about them as if they're an alien race or a rival gang.... but that's not the case. We actually had a lengthy discussion about this at the last Chch Bimmersport meet and there was talk of setting up a "Rennsport club" whereby members of all the German car clubs in Christchurch could band together for meets to allow a bigger turnout, better venues, cheaper track days etc. I think it's a brilliant idea. I've been thinking about joining the club for a while now, and as I want to take the E30 out for a bash round the track I guess now is a good time.

Boston Green FTW (I'm bias though) Can't go wrong with a NZ new car with full dealer service history. I'd certainly take it for a spin. The 328's in manual form are quite rapid cars.
