Hi Matt, welcome to BS. A quick google search for "E36 common problems" will bring up tons of pages with info on what to look out for on these cars. This one for example: E36 Common Faults FAQ Good luck with your search. Coming from an STi I imagine you're after a manual car? If so, look at spending between 8 and 12k for one as they're far rarer than autos.

Get some pics of the inside if you can too. IIRC it had bog standard base model interior. Also, what's the with the "3 gauges that aren't hooked up yet" crap? No doubt it's a good looking coupe, I reckon you should get someone to check it out first though. (Not that I can talk! )

Rear bumper is re-aligned now, took it off and found our little friend rust eating the bumper from from the inside out. Had started on the bumper mounts too, so wirebrushed and sanded as much off as possible before covering with rust converter and fish oil for protection. Will do the front too when I eventually get around to repainting them UPDATE: Took these pics the weekend before the the Chch meet. Found some cool spots behind Tower Junction and near the railway station. I really want to get an SLR, but all available funds are going towards the car at the moment!

Spent about 4 grand on the E36 on top of purchase price. About to spend close to 2 grand on the E30... new cam, head studs, replace fuel pump, fix leaking gearbox seal etc. I have a "TO FIX" list in my glovebox which I add to most days. *sigh*. Oh well, it's half the fun I guess!

Kidneys are cheap and easy to remove.... you could always have two sets and change them up when you feel like it.Â

Photoshop takes a bit of work to get the hang of, but it's not toooo hard. I find the easiest way to learn is to type what you want to do into Google followed by "photoshop tutorial". 99% of the time there will be a step by step run through of how to do it.

Is your E36 a compact/hatchback? Or a sedan/coupe? The diffuser won't fit a compact as the rear bumpers are different. It's yours if you want it and it will fit your car!

You want BBS deep dish mags? What sort of budget are you looking at? How much dish? What size? A set of used BBS RS wheels (see my sig) sell for about $2000-2500 in good used condition. If you want to buy new, you're looking at more like $4000 for the wheels only. Probably more now with the exchange rate the way it is. You could buy also buy replica styles. Atta, I think you'll be disappointed of the performance of the 8 series after the M3... they're a bit of a boat really. 7.4 seconds to 100 as opposed to the 6.2 of the M3. Sounds like it has a few issues too. Are you prepared for a lemon 840?... they empty bank accounts faster than a gold-digging trophy wife!

You have to spend a bit of cash to get decent in-ear stuff. Shure are around 250-300. Having something mashed into your ear is such an unnatural way to hear sound too, I mean, you don't read a book with it taped to your face do you.

Shure in-ear headphones are FTW. Quite expensy though, what are you looking to spend?

Painting the chrome trim around the windows black (and if you want, the bumpers too). My car is p/fl like yours and has been shadowlined at some point in its life.

Sweet! Those wheels will look minta! Shadowline the chrome too when you're done, will make the wheels stand out even more.

Keen for a 272 or similar. Have to replace my worn stock cam ASAP.
