I got a similar sound on my 528i, i removed the front wheel and gave the hub a tap with a rubber mallet. It seems to be coming from the caliper/pad assembly so i'm thinking grease needed on backing plates etc. Will follow to see what help you get....

If you need details on how to check it you might be best getting a mechanic to do. ( no disrespect intended) Do you have a haynes manual? access is tricky unless you have tiny hands (mmmm tiny hands) Leave the HT leads on, there are 3? captive bolts holding the cap on the front of the engine.( I have seen come caps in an easier location but that was a 323i) you will need a small socket or a ratcheting box wrench. the bottom one you have to undo by feel. Undo those 3 bolts and pull them back, (long threads but they special washers so they wont fall out) then carefully tilt/rotate the cap and wriggle it out sideways. Check the contact points inside the cap - 6 brass terminals, and look for cracks or tracking on the plastic. Also check the contact point of the rotor which can be cleaned with fine sandpaper. If the points in the cap are all pitted or corroded you will need to replace. There is also a centre contact on a spring. If you haven't changed it in 6 months i would recommend doing it and the rotor arm - my 325 seems to chew through then every 6 months or so. If you do change it label the HT leads and the cap so you can match it up. Pull the leads off using the caps, not on the lead wire itself or you may break them.(new leads more $$$) when you reassemble take care not to damage the rotor (this comes off with an allen key ) The cap will only go on one way and you want it square and evenly tightened. If the cap is mis aligned at start up you will be buying another.

Have you checked the dis cap? once the terminals get badly pitted the car will crank for ages before firing.

I think these are 2 great examples of how to not advertise a car for sale, the 4k has been on literally for years, crap photos (original ones were worse) crap interior and overpriced by about 100% in my view. The $4k spent on engine says it all. cost of repairs does not equal retail value. The manual looks like a great car but for that mileage the seller should ( no disrespect intended) touch up those primer spots etc and get rid of those high profile 15" wheels (don't care if they are std) and add some close up shots of the interior. High mileage and immaculate is ok but who wants high miles and saggy bits? To contrast, I'm tying to justify buying this for $1800 but the garage is full Visit My Website

Whats the carpet like? $450 for interior including a grey carpet in good nick?

Any opinions and tips would be appreciated guys Have you shone a torch in the sunroof slot to see if you have rust in there? If so you may want to take your roof liner out and fix the cage before you bother re-colouring it.

Search under for sale using "dash mat" Jordan i think. I tried him and he has sold out. I am thinking of getting a small batch in if you are interested?

You could use the questions feature of his other auctions to keep pressure on, but he may blacklist you. I would buy but not complete the sale on another of this auctions as a way of getting to place feedback.
-
let your feedback tell the story.... if he gives a sh%t about his 100% feedback he will replace. People on TM seem to be far to soft with feedback, for fear of getting bad feedback by return (which you can now object to). If you got ripped off (sounds like you did) then say so.

an upholstery guy showed me the best way to remove the perished foam backing from roof liners etc, rub it with a piece of foam rubber - same as seat foam. It takes the residue right off without damaging that cellulose moulding.

Does it at idle and does not go away withe rpms but is less noticeable. Car starts up quiet then as it warms up the noise begins. Made noise with no AC belt. I am hoping it is something like an idler or a belt but its difficult to determine exactly where its coming from. Seems to reflect off concrete and out wheel arches. I put some oil in it that was thinner and added a seafoam treatment - No difference.

additional info - the PO has overheated the engine and it has a full longblock replacement about 120k kms ago for a cost of $18k!! a following service sheet noted an "audible knock" and suggests faulty HVA's.

This is the sound from my 528i. I thought it may have been a loose sparkplug but changed the plugs and rocker cover gasket today and noise is still there. Quiet when cold and makes this noise when warm. Suggestions please? rod knock? seems to low to be vanos but what do i know....
