Don't care if it stays on and is durable, its function over form. I may have to go and have a look at the hard ware shop.

Cheers, have tried one of those, lasted about 3 minutes, the car gets drive like it has been stolen by a Meth addict with poor depth perception, literally slammed into the road and off things.

Looking to make a flexible front chin spoiler for my rally car, like what you see on the big boys race cars. Wondering if anyone would know what they use and where I would buy it locally?? Looks like the PVC you see on rally cars mud flaps. Cheers Like this: http://2wallpaper.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/ford-focus-wrc-2006-walllpaper.jpg

Ha, I watched the highlights the next day, look about 7 minutes. I think they need to add a figure eight section to the track. Check out these gravity defying goats, now that's entertainment! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mJfZ7xdGfQ

What part of the suspension did you bend? That impressive. I smash my wheels all the time when rallying, we run the OEM 18" wheels that are made by Speedline, can say after the amoun of hits we have I would not run anything else. Check this, hit this curb at around 100kph, just bounced off and kept going, there was damage to the face of the wheel but thats' about it! Glad I pulled the hand brake and that there was a curb there, would have been talking to the cows down the hill otherwise. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNCi6vqyQBw

Fantastic photo's and build, good to see you are out doing it to it!

Its not just replica's, its a lot of the moderately expensive brands you would buy from reputable mag shops. A lot of the forged stuff is pretty average also, I know of a few american brands that are well bellow standard and will still land you over $4,000 for a set.

Your car is not the Moro car is it? My wife (BBB at Frucor) knows you or the previous owner I think. Your car must go O.K to hit 200 at either of those tracks, I cant manage that in my bloody thing.

This might be of help. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LESRJrB1L5I&list=PL96D52AF54166C886&index=6

Its not so bad in a slow car like mine, we only hit 200 maybe once a day if we are lucky! Must be painful in a 700hp Evo or 1000bhp GTR! Have to buy a copy of Classic Car mag and check out the route for this year, AFAIK it ends on Taupo race track.

Yep, unlike the race track, when you go off, its often big. One small mistake and it can write your car off, something scary when you are doing 200kph down a narrow back road in the middle of no where with no pace notes blind! Its like running from the cops only legal and safe. I thought I had driven fast and then I did Targa, I was caught on my first competitive stage by a competitor that started 30 seconds behind me in a slower car... still growing the balls needed to go flat out! Always good to have you guys there ready to tow us out, luckily have only ever needed one tow so far!

It is cool that there is multiple categories to compete in, performance index is a good one and winning that is something to be proud of! Money is a big thing, like all rally’s it’s not the cost of the car it’s the cost of the event and the consumables needed to compete and be competitive, we have tried doing it on the cheap but its false economy, if you skimp anywhere it comes back to bite! It would be great to see a few more single day events, it’s a lot more manageable cost and time wise, we did the Possum Bourn Memorial a month or so back and it was a great day event, some more Tarmac events like that would be cool. There was a rumour Targa could be going to the South island next year, that is something I would be interested in, would put drivers on a more equal clean slate playing field and take in some awesome roads, would also attract international drivers I would think.
-
You would think so but that is the actual problem, there really is no standard on 99% of aftermarket wheels you see on the raod. Unless they are from Japan (JWL Standard) or Germany (TUV Standard) there is no real testing or guarantied quality. There is a reason good quality wheels like BBS for example cost well over $1,500 a wheel, its because they are quality and meet the standards.

Started in 2010 with absolutely no motorsport experience at all in a stock standard hatch back, got my Rally licence and managed to keep quite a few high end cars and drivers honest so decided to stick at it and develop the car, we have done a few events and have had a few drama's, we have learnt a lot and realized it will take many years to get the formula right! last one we did was Targa Rotarua earlier this year where I crashed with a braking fault and damaged my car, my excellent crew patched it up and then i damaged it again the following day on bad tyres and bent suspension, was a hell of an event! We have been working away at fixing it for this event and have spent a lot of money, but alas we have run out of time and motivation (money) so withdrew for this year with the hope to develop the car for next year so we can put up a respectable challenge with the straight line pace we need. Our car is very slow in a straight line!! I will be on event helping out where I can this year, also have my name down as a tentative co driver (I co drive a proper rally car in the proper gravel rally series), but that would depend on the driver and the safety of the car! Well said. It really is the most fun you can have in a car... bar proper rally on gravel! Targa Tour is well worth doing, its 80% the fun with 100% less drama!

Will be there, a few members doing Targa this year.

It depends on how bad it is, the Meguires stuff or other wont work on some really bad baked on tar! A bottle of proper tar remover is worth having though, good to use on recent tar marks etc. Depending on what the wheels are, if its layered on I'm guessing they are not that great a looked after a wheel anyway so petrol should not do any noticeable damage. Kerosene would be my first try, then petrol. DON'T USE PETROL ON BODY WORK THOUGH!

X2. looks cool, some great roads down there, wish it was a week earlier, would have called in for a beer! E30 Touring and E30 Vert would make for a nice couple of cars to have in the garage.
-
Easy tiger, don't go looking up cars on the internet, too much discovery in one year can dangerous, you have only just discovered 1990's BMW's so maybe keep your focus on that for a while and then go crazy.
-
It was not an argument, more an opinion. The Six Cylinder E39's steer more like a E46, the eight cylinders feel more like the older E34, its just personal preference. The recirculating ball type steering in the V8's is not bad, the M5 uses it after all, albeit with a faster ratio. And yea, most cars feel a bit slow to react after driving my cars, but most people comment that Cup chassis Renault's are too stiff and performance focused so once again, its preference and you cant please everyone.

Thank goodness for that, had been bothering me the last two years this thread had been dormant... to be honest, awaiting his news is the only reason I have hung around. I think Jamez needs some of those mods for the 2K cup car!

This. Petrol eats tar! Make sure you wear gloves and try not to smoke when doing it.
-
Nice car, I think this car was recently fixed at my mates panel shop... and then crashed. Good luck with what looks like a simple repair, a shame it was written off.
-
Fair call, I prefer the 530i myself as did the motoring journalists when new, they actually ratted the six cylinder E39 as a better drive due to its superior rack and pinion steering and use of alloy in the suspension, steering system and sub frame, the six cylinder has a sharper turn in and better feel. The V8's feel very boaty by comparison.
