Hello guys and gals, This might be useful for others as well. I am just finishing the maintenance on a e30 M20B25 engine and was considering replacing the HT leads. Q1 Are they something that require replacement after certain k's or is it just when they die? Q2 If i did replace them is there any benefit from getting 'race quality' ones (blue) from repco etc or just basic to match oem or oem? Cheers, Adam

Gaskets from repco. Nuts and washers from Blacks Fasteners. Take the old gaskets to match from so they dont get it wrong.

Hello, I just brought a whole head gasket set includes everything for head up for $140. If you just need a manifold gaskets it should not be expensive. And if you just need the manifold to exhaust then it only cost me $5. I got all new washers and nuts for both the manifold and air in take and tempostat housing (26 in total) and it cost me $27. No reason to go second hand on these parts. Adam

What do you consider 'high' kms and why?
tcbaurpower replied to martyyn's topic in TradeMe discussions
Okay this is a good topic. I was just discussing this with a mate on friday and as his father is a mechanic they never consider the k's a problem just if engine is in relative good condition for its age (taken for a test drive etc). I have 3 e30's with high k's and two of them run fine just the one that was thrashed by a boy racer before we got it . I don't consider it a deterrent if the condition of the rest of the car is good. -
Hello, That is right i just got brand new ones for mine (the last ones were to buggered). But just a little additional info on this the top 2/14's are 75mm, side 14's are 45mm and the 4/10's are 50mm. Dont have the starter ones with me so cant measure them. Regards, Adam

Hello, Just curious what you would expect to pay for cleaning injectors? Cheers

WTF. What a childish response to a normal situation. You cant be expected to be given special treatment because you say 'i am going to fill up'. So they let you fill up your car and then you drive off. Just do what it says PREPAY, it is that simple. After saying that if you were a customer that often filled up at the same station maybe you would expect them to trust you. Back on topic Shell V-Power, dont know how good it would be but i do like the add. And i dont have a preferred station.

I had looked for e30 colours and found some listed with photos on an american website.. can not remember the actual site. The greys are just a silver with a light green, blue etc shade. Also IMO the poo m3 colour is really not good, i have changed those nappies also.

Thanks Hotwire, It didnt sound hard but the long winded descriptions and mention of special tools etc made me doubt the logic that it was as simple as line up the marks and tighten the belt correctly. Some pictures might help others as well, i will take some as i do it. Cheers.

Hello, I am now about to put the engine back together starting with a new water pump, tensioner and timing belt. The issue is that i think the crank has turned while i have shifted the motor how do i make sure it is all lined up. I can see the marks on the block etc and i dont think the cam has moved. Would i need any specific tools? I have read the thread about an M40 engine is it similar? Any info would be greatly appreciated because i would like to get it done this weekend. Another question, if i was to get the timing checked after the engine is in the car would this be big job? Cheers.

I liked the look of it but have only watched one episode. I am trying to cut back on the tele watching. So just keep to one or two shows a night. Do you ever find yourself watching crap just because it is on? I am looking forward to Outrageous Fortune, a good New Zealand show, they should get rid of the Shortland street crap.

Hello, It is a really tight fit, as you will have found taking it off, if you apply continuous pressure it should slowly slide on maybe some lube would make it easier. Have fun.

Hello, Here is a diagram of the rear brakes on a sedan 1986 euro 6/1986 production, which i guessed at. You could do a quick check yourself on www.realoem.com. Cheers.

Hello, I have the Haynes e30 manual which is helpful but saying that i have found other solutions from searching the internet and they both acheive the same outcome. Also someone posted an online Haynes link for e30, e28, e34 a while ago. Has anyone got an online version of the e30 bentley manual? Cheers,

Hello Glen, You have mentioned this before but what brand is it? Would you suggest using it for other gaskets as well? Cheers.

I didnt watch the show but that is just pure ignorance. I always thought and still do that BMW's are great luxury cars that have the engineering quality to be turned in to great race cars. They are after all just family saloons not sports cars.

Hello, that will look really good. I have photo shop so will give it a go this weekend. I am doing this as well. I have the engine stripped back and are just finishing the cleaning down process ready for painting. This is what i am doing, - Gloss black block - Silver manifold to match air in take which has been cleaned and still looks great so no need to paint. - rocker cover to colour match the new paint job. - gloss black brakets around block, silver around head. - and some brand new parts too. I was just going to buy new bolts and nuts so how much is it to get them electroplated? Where would you get this and anodise done in Christchurch? I might look into it. What is crinkle finish by the way? Cheers.

I would like to get one but since they are now over priced it doesnt seem worth it. If i did i would just get a simple three numbers three letters because that is the cheaper option and make it a euro plate so it suits a BMW. Plates that just give the model type etc seem pointless. I like the plates that let you know someones personallity like CZYARB.

Hello, Simple question ... Could a central locking system from a 1987 e28 be installed in a 1986 e30. Cheers.

Cheers for that. No one has reported it abandoned yet.

F/S NZ NEW '02 330i $6500 Reserve!!!
tcbaurpower replied to bmw.maniac's topic in TradeMe discussions
The topic is already over. He gave us a BMW to look at .. so we do then it turns into something real life where we get to see what over areas of a members life makes them tick. Personally i think that this is very interesting since is meant to be a social forum and we can not all make it to the meetings. On topic.. There are so many on Trademe that often i waste hours looking when i don't need another car let alone the other bargains that can be found. IMHO. -
Hello, My mates white MR2 was stolen overnight between Sunday 11 to Monday 12th of May, from his drive way in Burwood. He got home at 10 o'clock so if you have seen it after then or since please contact the police or PM me and i will forward it on. Cheers.

Are the majority of car sellers on trademe dreamers??
tcbaurpower replied to Avenged.SSE's topic in TradeMe discussions
I think it depends on the car. If they are selling a mint condition example then it has to be worth more. Or if you really wanted a black paint job say, then a couple of grand more might seem reasonable. I think you should be able to get a car cheaper on trademe than a dealer thou. Are turners cars just cheap imports? What condition are they usually in? And misrepresent.. i was looking a some 7 series a while back and went to have a look at a 735iL. I went for a drive and my partner found the the 735i badge in the door card. I said that it was listed wrong but he didn't change it, he seemed dodgy to me. I dont think that they are dreaming, it is a good way to get the highest price that they can. They should probably do some research before hand thou. Any buyers really need to check out any car first then give them an offer of what they think it is worth.
