  1. My ideal would be two 2-car garages, one for the projects and the other for the daily drivers. The project one would have space for work benches, tools, storage etc. Got as far as getting plans drawn up for the second garage in Palmy, but then we moved to Akl. Where we are now is a good compromise as the garage has plenty of room for 2 cars plus work-bench, parts, bikes, etc. with enough off-road parking for the two dailies and then some. Noticed the front bumper was hanging off one-side on the wife's E46, and the fog-light had nearly fallen out, all by itself apparently according to Mrs Pom.. so pulled it off to check it out and put it back on properly. Found about half a dead bird and a big F^%k off spider in there plus a few broken clips. A good clean and it'll go back together and then I can get the missing clips on order when I'm back at work next week.
  2. Very technically it will allow greater acceleration due to decreased mass, but won't increase the top speed as the aerodynamics will be unaffected.. Will have much better bragging rights and cool / wank factor though. And it's also another reason for Ash not to get his car on the track any time soon...
  3. As above, it's not a complex job, just difficult to get to. If you have a good socket set with wobble joints and extensions, etc then you have all the tools you need. Room to jack the front to get underneath is also helpful - saves the back strain of keep leaning over the front guard.
  4. It's the Gen-Y problem, can't wait for anything, want it all straight away, not going to work their way up the property ladder, want to go straight to the 4 bed villa in Ponsonby. When the bank manager says they can't have the money they cry any wail because no one has ever said no to them before. And it's not their fault (it never is) so it must be the big bad Property Market to blame.

  9. True. The way some issues get bandied about you'd think that every car fitted with that particular speedo / gear-box / engine etc. was affected by the problem. So far I am one from three on the odometer issue.

  11. That's the point though... I can get to the beer fridge perfectly fine, from all points in the garage, without tripping over anything, so why do I need to shift stuff for other people??
  12. Sound like a very good idea Jools. Not sure when they are going to arrive here though.. Just got the e-mail to say the DVD is on the way, Blu-Ray they don't expect to get in before Christmas.
  13. Had to move the race car and the 'vert in the garage as part of a tidy up. Orders from the Boss to clear a path to the beer fridge so people can get to it without risk of injury. Bloody Christmas interfering with a Man's cave..

  15. Putting the right grade of oil, and a good quality oil, into the engine in the first place is much more important IMHO. Changing it every 5,000kms and putting cheap crap in it is going to do more damage than running for 25,000kms on the right stuff. 3pedals point about contaminants in the oil is a good one though, issues elsewhere can cause problems with the engine oil, so it's always a good idea to keep a close eye on it during those 25,000kms.

  17. High Kms, non-msport, boring silver colour, auto. Price is about right I would say, lot of car for your money if it all checks out.
  18. It's a tender.... you tell them what you are willing to pay, and the person that says the biggest number gets to buy the car. Bit of a strange way to sell the car, I would have thought an auction would be a better bet. Without looking to see how much damage has been done to the metal work beneath the plastic bumpers, etc it is hard to put a price on it. A good few hundred $$$s worth of parts there straight off without even thinking about it though so it won't be a steal.

  20. It's not about members grumbling, it's in the forum rules for the for sale section, must have a photo and a price, please add them to your post. A few more descriptions might help.

  22. Not the photo on it's own, more the lack of details - silver colour, which one? Interior - leather? Nav system? Which 18" wheels, what options fitted, etc. All quite important for someone looking at a premium used vehicle. Car may not be over priced, if it has a very good spec, lots of options and is in exceptionally good condition. However, when there are slightly older, but still LCI examples available for $30k less it is still going to be a hard sell... Plus the forum rules state a photo must be included... at least you have made it over the 10 post count now!!
  23. Personally I would never use a water blaster or steam cleaner on an installed engine, I have seen too many problems caused by water getting into where it shouldn't. I would go Supercheap and get a big bundle of cans of degreaser and spray that onto the dirty areas. Depending how old the oil is on the engine and how clean you want it a stiff brush might come in handy as well.
