i agree , just about every engine i sell is to replaced a over heated (cooked engine) ,, faulty thermostats , broken water pipe ,hoses split , water pump leaking , and they say to them selves , just gotta get home instead of calling a tow truck etc . $100 for a tow $2000 for an engine?????

probably find the the little drive cog that turns the tumblers is broken (quite comon) just remove teh gears mech from your old one .

its a M42 . its has a air flap type afm ( m44 run a hot wire sytem) . and front sensor is in a different place on the M44

like mine . check all coolant hoses and replace , radiators burst at the seams. they run the thermostat at 105deg C . so make sure all teh coolant system is up to it . camchain noise. fogged out suspension bushes . trans and torque convertor

depends on what you like . most 325i run around a 3.73 or so . gives about 2500rpm at 100km/h top gear but been in a lighter car you could go higher .like 3.64 / 3.46 if you want to it to rev 3.9 or 4.1 . but hard to find in medium case diff try this web site , enter your details . and work out the revs /speed , gearing etc . gearing calculator
