  1. The name sounds like a dose of the clap.
  2. Looks like the facelift tacho is slightly different to me that's all - that one in your link has white stripes between 6 & 6500, my 330 coupe has red stripes from 6 to 6500. They are all the same M54B30 engine... Looks like a nice car.
  3. My understanding is that the E46 coupe and the M/Sport 4 door use the same suspension - which is around 20mm lower than the non-M/Sport 4 door. There is no difference in the suspension, engine or transmission between the M/Sport & non-M/Sport coupes (it's only cosmetic differences between the two). Where did you see the 500 rpm difference? I guess it could be a 325 or 328 vs 330. If I remember correctly Josh tracked his 330i 4 door with steptronic trans - he might have some comments about the auto on the track.
  4. I got mine from these guys. Came in OEM packaging, 12 months updates, and no issues using it or the activation code. Better than $70 on the Symantec website.
  5. They change colour as they age - so it depends how old it is. You'll notice that one side will be closer to the usual halogen (the older burner) and the new one will be further up the colour range and appear bluish. It isn't normally a safety issue, just aesthetic. This is the cost of the technology and one of the reasons why they are an optional extra & not standard on most cars - the carmakers aren't willing to spend $500 per headlamp.
  6. Talk to your local auto electrician. Make sure you replace both as they will be different colours if you don't...

    BMW Supra anyone?

Not sure why everyone is so surprised - the cost of developing a new vehicle from scratch is stratospheric & sharing the development & some of the tooling costs makes the business case one hell of a lot more compelling. You would be very surprised what you get (or more importantly don't get) for a million dollars in product development... For a large development like this, you could easily rack up a couple of billion dollars before you even get to the product launch.
  8. Bestbars make the OEM part. Or you could be lucky with Ray at HellBM or trademe.
  9. Yeah - you forgot to include my one
  10. Yes get it scanned - otherwise you're just guessing. Could easily be a cam position sensor - but you won't know unless you scan it....
  11. Depends on the company doing the work... Smith & Smith use a lot of XYG which I believe is a Chinese manufactured part. Yes Pilkington are an OEM supplier, so in that respect they may be made in the same factory, have the same production process/equipment and similar levels of qualification & specification. I have no problem with products from acknowledged OEM suppliers like Pilkington or Sekurit/Saint-Gobain - the BMW logo doesn't make any difference to me for a windscreen. I specifically asked for one of those brands but Smith & Smith didn't stock them when I needed one ironically. My gripe with the XYG product was that nobody could provide any standards that it was manufactured to, or performance specs it met. The insurance rep then went on to say that "it's fine, it fits the car - I just put one in my car" but had no idea about quality standards, type approval, or even where it was made - i.e.: he didn't care about anything except the cost. My response was that if BMW weren't prepared to use these guys for OEM supply then there's obviously a reason for it - and my pick would be poor quality or not meeting performance specifications. Automakers aren't shy about squeezing every cent they can from a supplier or changing to someone cheaper. Interestingly, if you have rain sensors they only use OEM - so there is obviously some subtle difference and they are aware of it.
  12. There is no such thing as a cheap M car...
  13. Looking at the signatures I'd say the 5th member was the Zodiac killer....
  14. Power steering hose leaks are common - so it isn't inconceiveable that one could fail catastrophically.

    E39 Won't Start

Checked the plugs aren't dripping wet?
  16. Exploration? No, I have no more than some experience as a petroleum transfer technician while I was studying.... Think the Shell (Shell Todd Oil services I think) was advertised on Linkedin - which I now can't find so might have been filled. I see my company is looking for a Research Scientist at the moment, but looking at your quick summary I don't think you have the right background for what we need (PhD post grad). It is definitely worth picking those companies that you think you might like to work for and getting a pre-emptive CV into their system even if they have nothing immediate. It might end up with an opportunity you werent aware of. Good HR departments look through those CV's and go back to them when something comes up. Don't get too concerned about your actual first job as long as the company offers potential - for example I have never directly worked in the field my degree is in... Actually, I have just had a thought - what about the engineering consultancies? There is plenty of geotechnical engineering work that companies like BECA, GHD, URS, Sinclair Knight Merz get into - and some of them (like SKM) are involved in geothermal energy (as are the power companies). Oh, and work your contacts - something like 60% of jobs never get advertised (don't quote me on the actual % but it is high...). Worst case? You go back to University & take it to the next level...
  17. Geophysics + Fluid dynamics = oil & gas. I'd be looking at the northwest shelf in Australia & the supply chain associated with that in WA. I did see Shell looking for people in the naki a little while back too. Product development is trickier as you really need to have some background in what you are developing, or you need to start from the bottom & work your way up. NPD experience in one industry is not necessarily easily transferrable to NPD in another. I recommend getting on both Seek and Linkedin and taking a look at what's around - especially outside NZ. It's tough going out there at the moment so you might need to look further afield. Formal graduate programs are well worthwhile if you can get into one - they normally set you up well for a real career path. Good luck with the search.
  18. Could also be a stuffed shock. Had that before with spookily similar symptoms.
  19. Nice find. A top fuel rail is the most efficient thing out there. For converting nitromethane into noise that is. Like.
  20. Needs more flamethrower and Bridgestone Eagers.
  21. I've used Ross for 5 years on both my E46 and E90. Highly recommended.
