+1 Jon Precisely why the car companies take so long to design and validate (as we both know - PFMEAs up to the eyeballs!!). Can you imagine the liability if 100,000 units needed an engine replacement? The cost (to BMW - not what you and I would pay) would be close to half a billion $.... Oh and don't forget the emissions and corporate average fuel economy laws.... I have no doubt that the white coats in Munich could realise much more from this motor, but have solid (germanic) reasons to leave it right where it is.

Yup - it's for the E46. A previous owner has had an incident (most likely backing into a powerpole) and there is a big lump of bog that I can see in the bootlid (shocking repair job that is really bugging me). Managed to get another one off trademe the other night so rather than do paintwork + repair, I'll just do the paintwork on a good lid.... Thanks Glen - I'll give Dave a call.

Ye gods! Is it really close to $12/litre retail? I worked at a Mobil station (many years back) which sold racegas as well - it was 106 octane and about $1.30 a litre (normal leaded 96 was around $0.95 back then). Ahh the good old days - way back when I was a young fella....

So is it 96000 kms or miles? Does anyone know? I would expect a UK import to be in miles (unless it is 59000 miles on the clock and he has converted it for the ad). I guess M3's are still asking around the $45 - 50k mark for a similar vintage, so maybe the money is not silly.

My new one came via US Postal Service and was around $45 USD from memory.
