I haven't seen the official instructions no but have looked at some international install threads and it appears to be as easy has pulling the factory stereo out and slotting this one in (plug and play) assuming there is no DSP/factory nav etc. MSpec has the E46 version is his car with no issues. I'm praying that they let it slip through if its only 1 or 2 units. as i recall Mspec got his through ok but yes buyers should be aware of that possible issue. Fugly is a strong word its not better looking than the factory nav i will admit but it beats putting a standard dinn in there.

Agreed i do like the OEM monitor much better to look at but the cost of retrofit is insane if all you have is the basic radio and stacker.

Seriously considering ordering an E39 unit (i have the standard NZ business stereo) Has anyone got the E39 one yet? Am i correct in saying there is zero wire cutting involved? just remove existing unit and plug this one in? Also trying to work out where i should order from safest seems to be pristigeaudio (because they are in NZ) but would be cheaper to go through Bimmernav. Any thoughts or advise appreciated!

Pulled from E36 about 2 years ago was working fine when i removed it and has just sat in a box ever since. As for price ... make me an offer if you think it will work in your car.

I think it was just optional, is mine actually facelift tho? i thought the black strips were painted and the mirrors were round on the facelift? If i could drop HID's into the existing housing then that would be great (i duno how legal that is tho) seems to have the same sort of round lense as the xenon ones.

Yea i cant really justify the cost of retrofiting xenon lamps. I think ill give those bulbs you mentioned ago i just want it less yellow/orange.

sounds like a plan! ... yea im glad i got one with leather ... it is missing a couple of things i would have liked (sunroof) but from what i have seen over the last couple of months looking it is very difficult to get everything i wanted. Happy with it regardless
