Si, You could sell the purple petrol eater, buy it and all the money you save by not driving it could be spent on fixing the elec's. If your lucky it just very dirty connectors etc, as they are known for this otherwise it could get vewy vewy expensive, the biggest issue is getting replacement parts here as just about everything would have to come form overseas, and then due to the complexity fo the 8 you dont always know which issues are what............. having said all that, it does look rather tempting............ If it is the car I think it is it was a very nice well cared for animal prior to its last keeper............

Alpina B6s upgraded to Bi-Turbo setup. (E30 M3 SHELL)
oldskool replied to mr E34's topic in General Discussion
What an absolute darling...................always wanted a e34 b10 turbo, but hell, it must be one impressive set up in an e30 m3 body....................... And as you say beautifully executed and finished............... How much is powerball paying this week ?????????? -
Well.................... It's still for sale, so hit him hard with your offer again................. Its a buyers market in the car biz, even when your dealing with collectables...........

Outside of Dougs ( which is not on the market ) this would have to be the nicest available, Whats the hold up E30-IS, if I was in your shoes I would be in like Flin.............. Plus the fact that if Gus built it and couldnt break it, it will be tough as nails.......... Look forward to seeing it snapped up by a an e30 fiend. Good luck E30- IS, hope you make it yours.

530 Runs a rack n pinion front end, 540 due to space requirements runs a recurculating ball set up, hence the main difference in the feel, the 540 will ultimately understeer before the 530, but it is not the sort of thing you will usually come up against in everyday driving, especially if you are transporting the kids. and lets not forget the 540 will give you more oversteer opportunities when you do want to have a real play. As far as 530d, think if you check specs deisel engine is heavier than v8, so bang goes that theory............... Both cars are fabulous, you wont regret owning either model, happy hunting and enjoy the dilema........

Hey Guys, Thanks to both of you for the magnificent work, both on the car and the photo's.................saved to my screensaver as motivator to secure one in the next few years..................... Thanks Heaps for sharing !! Cheers Grant

Hey Nick, In UK it costs around 400 - 600 pounds including kit, thats at a specialist, not bmw franchise, I will recheck figures, but even if you replaced the entire vanos system it should only be around $6k nzd. The rebuild kit fixes the problem and is a very reliable fix, it involves new seals and rings on the vanos cylinder, I will find the article and post it or fax it to you, may take a week or so as most of my uk mags are in transit from ChCh. Hope that helps Cheers Grant

Hey Guys, The one thing to look out for on the 2.0 desiel is a problem that seems to be coming up in UK, there is a flap in the intake manifold that fails and goes straight into the engine with predictable results...... this appears to be happening on e46 at anywhere from 100k to 160k, thats kms not miles. Currently BMW are ignoring the issue, the only fix is to replace the manifold unit, and this is not a guaranteed fix as the design fault is still there, this issue seems to be coming up in high milage 3.0 desiels also, but only in the e46, so must be the manifold design and the fact that it is not overly durable plastic.............. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !! Go for it at the right money but change the intake asap................ Cheers Grant

Mate, Seems everyone is overlooking one key factor, if the vanos unit is not working as it should you will be experiencing the very symptoms you are talking about, do you have a rattle from the front end of the engine at idle and a somewhat erratic idle ?? If so you will need to have the vanos unit stripped down and order a new seal set for it, there is a part number for it, if Brent doesnt give it to you in the next five mins.....I look it up for you...........BMW will tell you it is a non servicable item and will require complete replacement, this is not the case and the guys Cain has mentioned in ChCh will be able to do the job............fiddley but not as expensive as you might think. I test drove a Kiwi one a few years back that had a dodgy vanos unit and it was slower than my e30 m325i that was well out of tune at the time.....the vanos unit in the 3.0 is better than the twin unit in the 3.2 but it is still a known weak spot in the e36 m3's. Will get the part number for you for the seal kit and what else may be involved in the servicing of the vanos unit.... Cheers Grant

Hey Nick, RXSumo is the godfather of all things E3, I have got in my collection of broken old bmw's a 3.0si manual with a full length webasto roof...........it a few shades of white currently, but is being rebuilt as I type, have put it on late model e60 16" rims, not sure what they look like yet as this was done once I left Akl, have a couple of pics as I purchased it, lovely old cruiser, have put new shocks in it had rust cut out and currently having sunroof rebuilt, then it will be interior and fresh coat of jam........ I have also just picked up a very rusty green 2800 auto that will slowly be restored, its all complete but body has big holes in it.......... SD European have a sad and sorry body in their yard......there may be a few good bits to pick off it........ Nice to have another E3'er out there.

Hey, Cheers guys, wil be good when it's all done, yeah Brent was really keen on v12 but in talking to various people, and due to difficulty in finding complete package with good engine, decided to go with the v8, plus theres nothing quite like the sound of a v8 with good pipes, next to a bmw s6 that is.

Finally, The white whale I brought off Brent is getting a new heart, have tracked down engine, trans & computer, keys, acces, front half of drive shaft, etc to give the old girl a new heart, will most likely but e38 front brakes & calipers on it too. Both Car & Trans in Akl so no pic's at the mo, but will get some in the new year. Really looking forward to it, have planned for Andy at Race FX to do transplant for me as he is old family friend and alwys does great work, any other suggestions will be greatfully received tho, as Andy usually has a pretty extensive work load. Should be a bit of fun when all done, hope to have it completed by June, July, & yes it will be auto, all the better to cruize in my dear, & no Brent you cant have it back once I've finished it, but it should give my 745 a run for its money !! Cheers Grunta

Hey, As tragic as the whole turn of events has been, there are some important points to note.... The tourist lost control of the vehicle after dropping two wheels into the gravel on the "Shoulder" of the road, over corrected and the rest is a horrific and terible tragedy, nothing will make it right, change it or lessen the absolute sense of loss the families and friends of the people involved will feel. However the woman responsible for it has faced the media & her actions, she appears to be genuinely sorry for her actions & they were not deliberate, purhaps if our roads were better maintained and had proper "Shoulders" we may be looking at members of the charity cycle run talking about a near miss..... The police officer, was (we are lead to believe ) a highly trained and skillful driver, he was duing a U turn on a corner !! and turned his vehicle with little or no regard to road rules, placemnt of his or other vehicles or as it is very clear due to the outcome, no regard for any matter other than persuing the offending motorcycle going the other way. There has been no public apology, nor any sign from police that there is a responsibility to be faced on their part, nor has there been any comment from the individual involved. The police will do their own internal investigation, it will not be open to public scrutiny, and the media has gone awfully quiet in regards to this matter. Whilst I realise the individual involved will be being advised to remain quiet and not speak out either way, due to the possible internal and legal repercussions, at what point do our law keepers become above the law ? The points are as follows ( and tell me I'm an arse if you don't agree ) 1. We have a private individual facing up to their actions and expressing there remorse - We have a police force that has not made any public apology nor has there been any public expression of concern or review of policy. 2. We have a private individual facing an open court and public scrutiny, she will be tried via our national legal system and face an open court to have the appropriate ( if there can be seen to be any such thing for the victems ) sentence placed upon her. - We have a police officer who will face an internal enquiry that the public will have no detail of, he will be penalised within closed ranks and will not have to face the public or acknowledge his guilt in public. 3. The woman was not a trained or skilled driver ( as far as we know ) nor was she employed by our government to uphold laws and driving standards in this country, she was and is an individual driving a vehicle for personal reasons, and she has to face the legal and personal ramifications of that. - The police officer was acting as an agent for the countries law enforcers, he was supposedly well trained, fully conversant with the traffic laws and safe driving practices. It must also be recognized that the officer should know what is good driving practise and what is not, given that our current legislation allows police to use their own descretion regarding good and bad driving habits. This officer has not faced the same legal proccess and may never do so. Add to that the police policy of never admitting wrong and what do we have ?? Lawlessness within the law !! One must ask which is the more daming action - A non deliberate action by a non professional driver behind the wheel causing death or the deliberate action of a professional driver who is employed to uphold traffic and driving standards causing injury and in a number of recent cases death. Our police need to take a long hard look at the ticketing "quota" system and the policies surrounding high speed chases, too many innocent people are paying the price for our under skilled and over zealous police driving habits. Thats another of my 5 cents worth, Cheers Grunta

Hey Greg, There is one that is sworn by in UK and Europe, Gruppe (?) M carbon fibre induction kit, I will check out the UK mags at home for suppliers, can simply order on line, think the test done in UK show a 15 - 20 bhp increase and a fantastic induction note, not sure of prices but what price can you put on more go and a great noise ?? Cheers Grant

what they _SHOULD_ be cracking down on is the n00bs that leave their euro rear fog lights on ... now thats a real hazard. I'm with you 200% on that one, how many idiots drive euro's and have no idea that they even have rear fogs, this is a far more hazardous action than front fogs, and I practice the same activity of having front fogs on during the day whilst traveling on the open road. As far as the ticketing above all other things, the officer that cleaned up the motorcyclists on the weekend had his focus on one thing and one thing only - Writing another ticket - how many people did the offending vehicle harm travelling at 111 km/h ?????? The current approach by the police regarding speed and alcohol is wearing very thin , when was the last time they looked at their own figures of deaths related to police chases, poor driving habits in police vehicles and lack of focus on the road due to focusing on quota's. I would suggest that it has risen remarkably in the last few years, the true figures would make interesting reading. The road toll has increased again, yet police still maintain the same line, thinking needs to change. Driver education, both public and police, greater driver training with advanced driving skills being taught, just because someone knows how to recover from a skid does not mean they will go out and do skids. The desire to appeal to the lowest common denominator because it is easy and cost effective is false economy, we have massive costs associated with injury and death that will reduce in direct relation to the road toll and injury accidents. Sorry having a rant, but I do wonder just when the attitiude toward true road policing will change, as it is just revenue gathering at present. The saying goes - THE DEFINITION OF INSANITY IS TO CONTINUE DOING THE SAME THING AND EXPECT DIFFERENT RESULTS !! Therefore does one take from this that the powers that be in the government and police that hand down these directives are insane, bears thinking about...... Grunta

Black on black on black on black on black on black on ............... well you get the idea. Looks fantastic, think it would clear the fast lane pretty bloody quick, only problem would be that Andy might loose the dog when he's in the back, might have to put a tracker on both !! Seriously thou, it would be one of the best looking beemers in the country if he ran with it. What do you think Andy, starter for 10 ?? Cheers Grant
