I have decided after a bit of a chat with a few other enthusiasts, that I should create a nice thread regarding my E39 'Project' as such. It will be very basic, and follow the work that has/will be done on her, but I am no expert in any sense, so don't expect an amazing read - I will leave that up to the professionals So Monday 17th of Feb, a day after selling my much loved E38 728i, I upgraded to a 1997 540i (M62B44) She currently has 170,000 k's sitting on the clock, but is very tidy and clean, and completely stock. I took her for a test drive, but the impulsive joy of driving a V8 Bmw with one of my many favourite motors, saw me buy it right there and then without doing the ideal thing, and getting it scanned. Sadly, after 100ks of driving and eventually rocking on home from her purchase, she stalled dead in my drive-way without the ability to restart, so she became the very new project sitting on my front lawn. And so the list begins! All My work is done with Ray & His Team at HellBm. Work Completed: - Camshaft Position Sensor replaced (18/02) - Fuel Pump Replacement (18/02) - Ignition Switch replacement (28/02) Fine and well until grunty sounds from the transmission area appeared so: - Torque Converter Reconditioned (10/03) - Transmission Service (2 & 2 come together lol) - Left Wheel Speed Sensor replacement She has finally come right, but as the usual, you can never not have anything to do on a BMW, so the 'to do' list follows To Do: - Exhaust system sort out - 02 Sensors, - Coolant Flush - Oil change/Service - Coby Performance Muffler (or whatever you want to call it, fart can etc) to replace stock Mufflers - Angel Eye Installment - Sort out Rims, Plasti Dip current until new rims catch my eye - Potentially Motorsport front & rear bumper (or just buy a MSport ) - Windows tinted to 35% - Interior trim to be changed from the old 'wood' look to Ali look. This is a long term goal list and I am sure there will be issues pop up to be added as with any thing automotive, but I am loving the challenge and the reward of having a better car than when I started. And to add to the weekly care regime, she gets 6 hours spent on cleaning her every week

I guess the reversible effect is what is drawing me, and I think people would be more inclined to purchase them original, come the time to sell Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Took a customers car for a drive at Ray's... Oops, I think I'm in trouble.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Don't display on website - I shall be taking a trip down there tomorrow I think. Wanting to know if the Pearl Dip has been brought into the country yet too... Or the massive range of other super amazing colours available for that matter. I feel like a kid in a candy store looking at all the possibilities this stuff can do to your car. Andrew: It's the ability to be reversible that catches me

I think I am sold on what I am going to do to my E39... There is a huge amount of videos, tips and how too's from the 'DipYourCar' guys.

That looks wicked!! Guess I know what I will be doing tomorrow night...

Have a read of TJ's forum on his rims. I've only done badges but will be attempting it on rims also. http://bimmersport.c...s/?hl=plastidip Edit: Added link Sent from my KM-UQM11A using Tapatalk

E46 steptronic slipping? And now dropped a cylinder
MISS BM replied to euroriffic's topic in Maintenance
Apologies - couldn't see area location when I was using the iPhone app. However, Dunedin places could be A.B Automatics and Integrity Automatics, only places I can remember family friends from down there using for a VW transmission problem, or there is the trusty Google -

If you are in Auckland, AA Automotive (Or TCRS) would be a good start. They deal with BMW transmission problems on a regular basis - and as Glen said, not sealed for life, I could attempt a fluid change if I wanted too. But give them a ring, good friendly guys. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
https://www.google.co.nz/search?q=black+rims+E39&client=chrome-mobile&espv=1&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sboxchip=Images&sa=X&ei=jUUxU7yjBILvkQWSxoHYCg&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ#facrc=_ Just did a quick Google search, they don't actually look too bad. The silver lip looks great but wouldn't work on my rims as too small. If I am going to be spending money like the pro's would charge, better off setting it aside for new rims in all honesty. Pink would be making a statement.. However not really my cup of tea. I apologise for my gender, and for the change of picture - But the angel eyes of somebody else's car made me feel like a thief, and what better than a proud owner and her nice example of a BMW. By no means this is a 'perfect' thread, or one that takes the brains of a genius to answer, but I want to present my BMW to the taste of myself, as well as those who will be taking the time to sneak a peak at her when she is driving past, so heck what better way to ask opinions than on a discussion forum. I spend the majority of my time reading the amazing projects the guys on here get up too (but like others, I don't reply) not just twiddling my thumbs thinking of what to post next. I am a mother, I tend to have better things to do. Thanks for the colour suggestions, how to source shadow chrome or is it a shop job? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I actually have a can of plastidip from when a mate was doing his VW badges black - I thought about it, but didn't think it would stand to the test of rims, I have been proven wrong, looks like that will be the way to go for black... Does it wear away quickly in regards to cleaning and so on? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Style 65's are my pick for ideal rims, and I have seen the shadow chrome, they look great! Just thought about how plain and boring my car does look compared to many others and hence the rim colour change to 'spice' it up a bit. Thank you for your ideas, will take a look at sourcing the ideal silver to match the OEM colour as will be DIY Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Over time I would like to ideally upgrade my set of Msport 17's to a nice set of 18's, but until then, I have decided to make do with what I have. My paint has peeled back, and all rims have a varying amount of curbing, so going to do a DIY job and get them looking good again - but what colour to go for a very plain, boring silver E39? I was thinking black - since my E30, and E38 have always sported my typical black rim look, plus the advantage of giving that 'bigger' rim appearance does appeal to my better nature, but would it work? I have black trim all around so thought it could potentially work in well, but to be honest, I am lost for any other colours! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My E39 was doing similar but I was accompanied by some pretty gnarly sounds too. I would say torque converter off the top of my head - got mine reconditioned and it sorted all issues and runs like a dream with no hiccups - I can't exactly remember, but scanning didn't give an idea to the issue - it was only the symptoms I was presented with that hinted towards the TCSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Aussie Ebay, did a tester purchase, got it shipped for a final total of $30 NZD. They look wicked and will be bringing in some for my E39 (tried on E46) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I wish - in a perfect world! No, sold the 728i to get this.. Missed the M62 from the old 740iL, but needed something smaller and with a bit more.. Uh, potential to play I should say... Edit: Have been using work vehicle, hence her absence on the road.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Holden Commodore V6 Sport for sale.. Open to offers - just need it sold. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=708748496&ed=true Excellent condition, service history (done by ourselves) right back to day dot, NZ new. Great car and has many many more thousands of K's to give. Hardly ever used the car to tow, so has been well looked after.. Listing on behalf of my adopted Mother - so it gives you an idea of the driver.. (50+ haha!) Only 2 owners, with us being the second. Too many cars and not enough parking spaces, and has been hardly driven over the last few months.

Took my 540i from her resting place for the last 2 weeks and gave her a bit of a run.. Went well, then progressed to spend 4 hours removing tree sap from the 'cyclone' with a polish and wax after.. Looking like she is meant to again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Revenue gathering in my opinion.. I have been ticketed for 'Not correctly displaying Vehicle registration'. - it was there, in full eye view, could see my car was completely legal, but it was only 'half' in it's rightful holding place. Got it upturned straight away, but it did take many weeks. Same goes for registration or warrant, if you get it up to scratch pretty soon after the ticket is issued, you can generally get it waived.. Or in my case, you have cops with nothing better to do and give you a ticket without the option for compliance because my registration is 1 day past expiry.. Joys, oh joys.

Well I started with a 96 318is as my first...4 years down the line, and 6 bmw's later Im now owning a E39 540i.. 318is are great cars, had 3 sitting in my drive at one point. Awesome example! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Their primary advertising point was Facebook, but they did advertise on the BMW Nz website, but I am sure 95% of entries were done via Facebook, I mean who actually browses their website on a regular basis for updates? Possibly other minor ways too. My Dad and Mate went and they said it was great, everybody's favourite seemed to be the M135i and the hotlap was the best track. Apparently the 5 series diesel was impressive too, but the 6 series with twin turbos got a few umm and ahhs as to turbo lag and not the best it could of thought to be.. Just what I was told by 3 attendee's.. Sounds like a great day held by BMW Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yeah I love it. Travelling in style, with the comfort of that bmw leather seats is just perfect haha! You can feel the horses move around a little bit vs the Nissan, but she travels 10x smoother and happier (just got to watch for that darn speeding!) I was getting about 14.5L/100km towing on varied terrain (majority up hill) and thought that was decent compared to my general 13L/100km. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
