  1. thats good....e 28 is a lighter car and prolly higher gearing
  2. if it is an NZ new 535is it should have lsd.And if it has the sports seats and Mtech body kit it will most certainly a 535is.The vin is very similar to mine, and in fact the key numbers are HD12....That vin number is from the same batch as mine(and i have lsd),and a/c and electric sun roof, electric seats, full obc, quite high spec. They were hardly ever badged as 535is most likely just //M badges The E34 did not have a M535is,which had engine mods in E28 Guise. The E36s outsell the E34 cause they are newer and I think a lot of people think that 5 series are more expensive than they actually are.A nice e34 will be a nicer ride than a E36.Fuel consumption is the worst feature of the 535.Its very hard to get below 10 l 100 k.And if you use it in stop start traffic you will prolly be in the 16 L 100 ks.Awesome open road car though, and if you need a bigger car its a lot of car for the money.Look up E34 .net,and a site called bimmer.info, there is an E 34 dedicated site Have you got a link to the car you are looking at.Most will have new wheels as the original wheels were the metric basketweave ones. Facelift very similar cars.Wide grill is the key.535is was superseded by 540is with a six speed, but equipement and specs very similar.I think the lsd and traction control are not compatable, hence Cains note about the 540 not having lsd sorry for long post
  3. the computer chimes at 3 deg C.its worth raeding the owners manual you will find with most 5 series and even more on 7 series there are lots of little tricks!(and prolly 3 series too!)
  4. proper m cars have cloth rather than leather......leather lets you slide around too much.I agree on the 540 too Martyn,I dont know why but i absolutely loath that beige/tan/whatever leather.May not actually be cloth as you say.If thats the case might be cloth/"suede"

    My Dilemma....

one could argue that its wear and tear!
  6. that would piss me off.Might be also codespeak for he offered more than you....
  7. the dash still looks like a commydoor..90 000 sheesh could have a e 60 550 for that,or imaculate e 39 M5 for less
  8. pinking is a term to describe detonation or preignition.its is heard as a rattle coinciding with application of the throttle at lowish revs,ie climbing a hill or smetimes as you take off.
  9. my owners manual says 91 so thats what i use.....never noticed any pinking. No performance difference using 95(96) or 98 but the car feels a bit smoother ,and I get marginally better economy .No point using higher octane with any older than mid nineties because without knock sensors the ecu cant adjust the timing to take advantage of higher octane.Similarly dont use any thing lower than recomended.in a old engine cause the engine cant compensate for pinking either.
  10. A few of us will be at the surgery interrmarque sprints as it the BMW club (And Porches) turn to run it.
  11. buy a bolt thats got the right sized head and lock two nuts onto it then just use socket
  12. i didnt think people still used running in oil.
  13. I see petrol has gone up again.i dont normally respond to "petrol specials" because even with a normal fill of 62 litres it makes stuff all difference. However I drive directly past two petrol stations on my daily trip.I also normally fill up at Shell because they tend to have the most specials and i get fly buys on the purchase and the visa.(high finance!) Any way for the moment the Shell down the road is 1.609,and the self service Caltex on the Hutt road is 1.545(this is 91).If you go the Caltex route the account you use for the transaction needs prolly $250 credit.
  14. the pre puchase inspection was a tick box,but it was thorough. They were nit picky but thats the whole point isnt it.You can debate the merits of that with the buyer. It was called a 90 minute inspection r similar, and at the time was 130 odd(that was 5 years ago!).Jeff gray is pretty convenient(right by the railway and bus routes) too and i dont think any one would be unwilling to leave their car there.I can vouch for Page European too.
  15. prolly better than asking "cn I take da GT2 for a skid?"
  16. So after paying out the paltry sum(ahem) of 335,000 do you actually own the car? or is it a lease?
  17. I got a car checked by Shelley BMW before i bought mine,it was very thorough and even had some part prices relating to the faults found.I would therefore recommend that you get Jeff Gray to check it.

  19. 750 has a lot of wiring too!
  20. I am sure the performance is "adequate" at 2000 rpm,but .....I am sure we could arrange some more satisfactory accommodation than the back of a vr4!
  21. thats the god stuff tho...full synthetic 5 w 30(or is it 10 w 30?good protection in all temps.
  22. there are some similar pictures of a guy dismantling an e 32 750IL,there is a huge bundle of wires when he finally gets it all out!I will see if i can find the pics!
