Anfd there in lies the rub....BMW are masters in adding a few subtle touches that make a "normal car" look a 100 times better..so every one jumps on the bandwagon and adds a badge spoiler ,bigger wheels etc and calls there car a "motorsport".

just a quick "debrief" Is this the sort of thing you would like in the future? Or a simpler version or just a drive to a destination,a lunch,a picnic,a BBq and return? If we have the same sort of thing how could we improve?Were the "stage stops too Long?,Too short,Not enough stops or too many?? more direction finding? less questions,or the other way around??? My thoughts...whole day a bit long,and the waits were too long for the first cars away from the stage before...We could have sent the first cars away before the last ones arrived,but we needed one more helper,and we need to figure out a system whereby we can find any lost cars ,and that information is passed to the people at the end of the current stage.How ...At alfredton for example there was no cell phone coverage...

a nice e34 or e 39 m5 would prolly make you money...if you have owned it for a time cant you bypass the frontal regulation thing?

I do....its just like the tossers on trademe who put M5 or M3 in the key words in their ad for their 520 or 316.If you add a few bits to a commodore would you call it a club sport? A motorsport is a motorsport,and must have ALL elements of the original item,not a decal and a badge.Half the value of a motorsport is the fact there were only a certain number.

They didnt cut corner most if not all of these cars have the Mtech suspension.I beleive the real reason for the number of these cars is BMW NZ knew that the M5 was going to be as Rare as rocking horse *&^.So they created a poor mans M5 .They look very very similar to the genuine article

no body kit,but looks pretty good spec,leather sports seats(armrests on front seats,thats not common) ,rear headrests,obc,pretty crappy pics tho.English cars can have rust problems most(if not all) NZ e34 wont

535 iS is the "sports " 535 iSE is a higher spec model than the basic models...SE ussually a English car, NZ models are ussually fairly highly specced from the showroom esp the 535,as at the time it was the "flagship" 5 aprt from the M5.ie a NZ new 535i would probably be just as highly specced as a UK 535iSE

hard to say... if you are determined to get a NZ 535 is this is what it should be like.There is no real mechanical difference,apart from some options

m30 can handle very large ks,as long as you look after ther fluids esp cooling sytem and oil.

I agree with all you said Darryl except the fuel economy on a trip.Much much better than round town.I have had up to 27mpg but its generally low twenties.If i am careful i can get 25.You arent talking about towing are you????agree on gearbox too.I dont get caught in traffic much.Car is brilliant if on a windy road just leave in third !

supply and demand.....and perceived value..I think a lot of people in the market for bigger cars dont even think BMW they think they are too expensive or too complex...Whereas the three series have a sporty image that is desireable to a large part of the car buying public.

Not so much a comparison between 535 and 540 Cain more 530 or 528 E39 vs 540 e39...I think there is a perception the v8 is twice as thirsty....As i said to a guy once when talking about 535 vs 540.....who cares if the 535 does 19 and the 540 does 17 mpg....sheesh

540 may well be worth less than other e 39s,that seems to be the way if you browse tard me...There is a link somewhere for the E39 buyers guide.If its got the full sat nav isnt it fairly late model?97 is a pretty early one. Isnt the bad idle and smoke the PCV valve Martyn????

Yes manual...Start stopping for a hundred ks about $25(thats 16 l at 1.60 m30 can run on 91 quite happily)when i first bought my car(central city auckland) the obc recorded fuel consumption said 17 L per 100 ks Price......even though i wish it were more i think my car would fetch 7000 max.its pretty mint and has 230,000ks
