Probably testing out his new gear

don't feel that way - We try to foster a "no question is a dumb question" atmosphere so don't feel slam dunked. It is afterall only mine and e30stz opinion at this stage

gay I've been on many a forum who've tried that - always falls flat. Noone wants to sit there and watch people make meaningless conversation. It's bad enough watching some of the drivel that creeps into non-OT threads as it is. If you want to chat with someone on the forum use MSN. If you want a chat room, set one up (there are plenty of free sites available to make a group room) and post the link on a thread - don't expect too many hits though. Prove me wrong - I dare you.

Just looked at the auction. We got ours cheap (cheaper than normal) but for a comparison ours has done less than 100,000kms is a '85 323i manual with no damage to the roof except slight milkiness in the rear window, on some nice 15" 5 spokes. $3500.

amen brother. New roof for the Baur is $1500-2000 including a new vinyl cover for the targa top. They're pretty bullet-proof rooves with the exception of the perspex window which either cracks or goes milky so you can't see out of it - a good canvas place should be able to replace it, but Dad isn't going to bother - he'll just get a new one whilst they are still available and keep the old one as a spare. If you want a cabby get a full cabby - the Baurs aren't very pretty. So far, the only good thing I've found with the permanent roll bar is that if you sit on the back of the rear seat with your feet on the seat cushion, the roll bar is the perfect height and size to rest your beer. Leather interior is a piece of weasels - if you have $1000 and about an hour free time to swap it in.

My manual box is a 240 from a 320. It is now on my M20 320. They DO make 240 boxes for the m20 series engine. Look on the online ETK - some 320 models have the 240 listed as an option. If it came off an m20 motor it will fit on the m20b25. Whether it will stand up to the punishment I don't know, but may find out as it is one option I am considering for my 325.

I wondered that also.

Don't think I need it anymore. Car may be being sold.
-
crush it - looks like my bluetooth mouse. However - the silhouette would make for a damn nice car if the "crap factor" was removed.

Barely a straight panel - good effort!

I was getting my discs machined and they found play in the rack end (Inner). Since it was already in the shop and apart I paid them to do it rather than do it myself. $70ish was the invoiced amount for the paart plus some labour. They get all their parts through Repco at trade (as do pretty much every auto shop in this town - a few shop at auto one, but mostly repco). Anywho - try repco, or failing that give Gavin at Euro Italian a call and see what he has them for.
-
Rack end or tie rod end? A brand new rack end is only around $70 or thereabouts (did mine last week) I imagine a tie rod end wouldn't be much different. Go new. Don't f**k about with secondhand bits when the new ones are not expensive.

Update your Firefox - mine appears to have fixed itself after the latest update.

turn them on but unplugged and put a multimeter accross the plug to see if you have power. If you do, somehow you have blown both bulbs i'd say.

You can get a VIR (Vehicle Information Report) over the interweb here. It's $25.

You're too slow Shelley Link

:mosh: What I want to know is how long his auto box will stand up to being driven by the wheels when under jet power (as it will have the same effect as towing an automatic car but at much higher speed)

Are you auditioning for a job on the plates ads?
