  1. small update ... kind of pointless and expensive to do, but i'm a details guy :/ Before After: Genuine recover
  2. Thats not true, Brendon's EVO3 has been running with pro-ma for years (over 10) and is @ around 240,000ks .. still going strong running 16psi and is now a track day car. Your mate did something else for that to happen and the engine builder is fibbing.
  3. Its usually just a problem with the regulator and can be replaced. The points could also just need servicing as well. you should see 13.8-14v Congrats ... you get that "engine swap first start" feeling
  4. Yeah sorry ... I'm being honest here. I *heart* german ass car. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/...n-481240695.htm

nice man! submit some of those for the 2013 calendar. On a side note ditch the offers sticker.
  7. Nah .. Haven't driven any of the M cars since tom's e92 m3 manual actually I could imagine ... you know your getting older when you think 'gas milage and potential pram space' lol, and no the missus isnt up the duff ...... yet.
  8. That fits my findings perfectly Yes the DVB-T tuners are a diversity tuner. The aerials are only smaller old 'cell' like anntenna. Im considering making my own. However Im not sure how I can improve on the omni-directional aerial. Turning it into a wave guide / direction aerial will be pretty useless in a car.
  9. I must say, I wouldnt mind one
  10. Sweet ..... will suss out a time with ya.

Moving to slicks is quite a bit different than DOT or road tires. The there a lot of differences in contruction. Slicks are also very sensitive to temprature and pressure changes. It is critical that the right start pressure are found and that you measure your pressure up throughout your laps. On the e30 I start at around 24 and build up to 30-31 PSI Anything over for me and I loose grip. ( this is weight dependant and compound dependant. Also unfortunately, Slicks go off. The could have to do with how many heat cycles they have had or how they have been stored. Taupo is a crappy surface as far as grip and slicks go compared to say Hampton. Work on tire pressures first then start to look at your suspension setup. Start to take measurements across the tire as it will tell you a lot. Attached is my track day race prep cheat sheet card. It has a Tab with a quick guide to reading slick temps. Not saying this is the be all and end all, but it works for me The tire pressures are even across all tires. If you wanted to get serious, you could have individual pressures for each tire dependant on the track and weather. Race_Sheet_v3.0.zip
  13. Paying attention to singapore imported vehicles get more a hard time because of the high humidity weather over there so tend to come with all sorts of premature electrical issues. This isnt just BMW but audi's / VW / Mercs etc I think around 98 they had wised up to all of this and started to internally seal circuit boards etc as 98 cars are amoung the last of the e36 generation. European cars (and most other manufactures these days) use a percentage of recycled plastics for a lot of coolant parts. These have the tendancy to get brittle quicker over time. Around the 80,000 and 120,000 - 150,000 mark is when youll get most of the issues. Again this is dependant on where the car came from and as others say has the car adhered to its service program or not. You can get a lot of high K cars that have stuck to their service programs religeously and be in a lot better shape than say a car and a much lower k that haven't. This is obviously not just subject to BMWs. Another area is suspension, worn shocks, springs and rubber bushes and tires can make a car feel like a lemon. Getting yourself a goodie, and it can be much more enjoyible that other car marquies. A very well balanced RWD car can be very rewarding. Its the reason a lot of us drive them and own more than 1. Any more questions, just ask An awnser to your question would be they are no more expensive to maintain than any other car. There are some good secondhand parts dealers and new parts are fairly easy to get if your into a bit of DIY. The big thing is getting a car that is good from the start. Use a dealship or specailist BMW workshop to do a 'pre-purchase inspection' They will give you a lot more vehicle specific information than any generic AA check can. They are more expensive to get done but well worth it. Several friends of mine have steered clear of some high dollar cars over the time because of the pre-purchase inspection report. Welcome
  14. A mate of mine had one. He didnt look after it very well and ran it into the ground (he does that to every car) Theyre ok, just another FWD car, this one will probably have the same dicky SMG style gearbox cept its no where near as nice as BMW's version. As you said, find out whats wrong with it and properly cost up the parts to fix. Its probably not going to be worth it unless you get it really cheap.

    The bastard child.

That looks so good .. you must be happy with that!
  16. Hey, I left mine default. It tuned up ok with the aerials supplied but I will say out of everything the DVB-T was a bit of a waste of money. I don't think its actually anything to do with the dynavin DVB-T tuner or dynavin unit but with the nature of terrestrial digital TV. In Auckland it really needs line of sight to the sky tower to work properly. I’ve tried tuning it off different transmitters as well with less luck. It might work well in Asian countries where they have a lot more gain or are closer to the transmission antenna. I thought I would have issues in the Auckland CBD however it turns out it works better as its closer to the tower. It's not like it doesn’t work, but you cant just drive and expect to have picture seamless, not like the old analogue system. To tune it what I did was drive up a hill with a great un-interrupted view of the city and it picked up all channels. I've actually been looking around for a discreet better quality antennas but haven't had much luck in that department. The old analogue TV works a lot better because at traversing hills / buildings etc
  17. Uh oh.... why did you show me this
  18. Some good sideways in this .. also Steve, your Ti wide body kit is in this Enjoy
  19. I remember when this won and the grand entrance to auckland harbour around 10-11pm at night. I have never (and probably never will see) so many boats on the harbour at one time. It was blimmin hard keeping the boat at the same speed in the middle of the night with everyone else .. lots of near misses but everyone kept it together all the way to the inner harbour. Chris Dixon had a cry at the time because no one was paying attention to him. *yawn* Nice trip ... and awesome photos! nothing like it I bet and an experience you'll never forget !
  20. Tad expensive .. but here you go http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1...one%2Caps%2C247
  21. This is why I didn't book in the end and decided to skip the ring altogether including cancelling car hire. Off to Munich to do factory tours instead which I think is a good compromise.
  22. correct Basically what your trying to do is capture the highest amount of dynamic range. What that means is trying not to clip any whites or blacks or any colour. EG not blowing out the sky (all white) or if you do not have lots of it in the photo. Or if you have a black car, its very hard in sun light to get the details because your cameras sensor is trying really hard to balance the whole picture. Remember more detail is better than less, we can always colour/contrast the image in post with more information, but if its not there we cant restore it. This is how the movies do it .. light everything and create the look in post production. Bellicose's photo is a good example of how to balance it all by shooting at 'magic hour'. At day time I use grad filters to darken the sky so it doesnt blow out. If you have to take a photo in direct sun light, you dont want the sun facing the lens as a rough rule of thumb, if the sun's behind you your camera doesnt have to fight with the UV light bombarding the camera sensor, causing colours to wash out and become bland. A polerisation filter can help with this but can introduce other issues and sometimes isnt always ideal. If you guys need any more tips or suggestions around lighting... just ask

    e30 project

lol westy Those wheels look like BBS e50 centres with aftermarket barrels. unfortunately you cant get e50 centres new anymore .. second hand, theyre a house deposit. You can get something from arrow wheels that looks the same however
  24. When doing group shots, dont pack the cars all together or take them from just front on. It makes for a bad photo. Do something like this. Sorry phil, stole your photos Also, unless your good at it and know what your doing/have the equipment, taking photos in direct sunlight will usually just wash out the colours. Shade or large aperture (Fstop) with long shutter times can be your friend here (also need a tripod )
