I really doubt that, the rear overhang is the same in both sedan coupe and vert. But you might be right?? where did you read that? and my car still has the original roof which is black even though the car is red. Actually, if the hood was red i would have walked away I'm sure

well thanks for your help guys! Long story short, it works perfectly as per the brief. For those that are interested, the 12V into the stock high beams was switched, and both high and low had the common ground, so that made it nice and easy for wiring up the coil side of the relay. took it from that 12V, into one side of the relay, then on the 0V side to ground via a switch to a factory ground point under the dash as per Allans recommendation. on the switch side of the relay, took it from the battery via a fuse as close to battery as possible, and out to the relay (which had another built in fuse, but was too far from the battery for my liking, thats why i put another one up close to the battery), and then the other side of the relay to the lights, which turns out they ground through the mounting brackets. i ended up using one relay to power both lamps, so we will see if they are bright enough, may try two relays if he is not happy with the result output. Initially thought i had mucked it up, but turns out one of the bulbs had a 24V bulb in it (was fitted to a truck before), and the other one had a bad ground contact, so when i had "finished" one was very dim and one not on at all. so fixed both of them and look quite cool, was way too early before night fall so i havens seen them at night yet, but looking forward to that. -
owned a 520i, can confirm its out of ideas at 130km/h, so surprised you saw 200km/h….

yes, also E36 and E34 M50 hoses are different because of different locations of air box etc, and M50B20 ones different again. I will have all the E34 parts you have asked for as well as the boot available in 2 weeks, also got the thermostat housing for your E36 as well. That said, not sure if the control arms are any good or not, but considering E34 just eat these bushes, you are really best to buy new 540i or maybe even 750iL bushes and fit them into your existing arms, unless the balljoints are also had it in which case you can buy new complete arms, but they aren't cheap. let me know when you do this, i will give you a few tips to help you if you are going to do it yourself. -
still not facelifts though. (i know its personal preferences etc etc)

Great thinking, will do! I guess I will find out when I'm in there. I want to run them off two separate relays for reliability reasons mainly. but if it causes more headache than its worth i may do just one relay, see how I go. I would put the lights in parallel is that right? Cool, so in other words, you are saying the factory switch is likely to be on the earth side of the factory light? -
i don't think they can be red, you aren't supposed to have any red lights on the front of your car, so seems strange allowing red or orange on the back but only orange on the front?? Maybe someone that actually issues warrants can have a look at the handbook?? Glenn?

do you think this circuit setup will dim the stock high beam headlights at all or excessively? my first idea was good, but then i realised it would probably make the stock high beams them very dim or turn off maybe, so came up with the solution above instead -
Im going to wire up some auxiliary spotlights on my old mans late model Hiace tomorrow. They are dual 100W spots. His requirements are, they are switched, so he can use the factory high beams without the auxiliary lights coming on, i.e. as per factory for urban driving when they are switched on, they can be killed by both the factory high beam stalk and the toggle switch I can up this schematic after a few days thinking about it: Please comment or criticise, let me know if your not happy with that!

i don't know of anywhere in New Zealand long enough, and flat enough, and not busy enough that it would be possible to close to hit top speed in a sports car. Maybe an international runway like Aucklands, but even then i doubt it Speed is an interesting argument though. A car can have a very good 0-100km/h time, but top speed not as great and vise versa, all to do with gearing. and since we go 0-100km/h every day, but none of us have ever hit vmax in our cars, i know which one i think is better and funnererer

Definitely not true. E34 M5 3.8L for one is quicker than both E34 and E39 540i and produced before both as well. Probably Mercs as fast too edit: 750iL will be up there too

Got an idea i want to try Wanting a pair of facelift/later style aero wing mirrors for E34 preferably in Calypso red, but any colour considered, dead motors or alive, its just to test an idea first anyways The ones on the E36 are very similar, not sure if the mounting is the same? look like this

i think you are confusing the fastest stopping with the fastest accelerating. Was definitely the quickest stopping, as was the E34 when it came out but 520i, 540i, M5, even my 550i, they are all great in a straight line and for long distance hauling or round town cruising. They do that really well. All of them are crapped all over by smaller cars, not only BMW 3 series, come time at the track or on a twisty back road, all 5s are heavy beasts, a 540i has so much extra gear on board the marketers thought you needed. 523i<540i<M5<"M532i"

looks great "parked" on an angle like that lol
-
well why not buy a 540i with good paint (maybe need a cut and polish??) and swap the nice bits from yours over like bodykit interior etc. don't need any certifying for that and you come away with the same result. WHat you think?
-
don't let me put you off... but better to just sell your car and buy a V8 one. You will need to upgrade suspension, brakes, swap steering over etc, then get the engine in, play around with EWS etc etc, and then when its all done, have a certifier tell you it needs this and that for a ticket. And then when its finally legal, get a big insurance bill because its a modified vehicle

very true, lived like that for ages in my first e30
