Hey guys, If anyone has a 1 yr old or older laptop i've got ram laying around here that might give it a boost. Done lots of upgrades for friends and they have given me the ram i've replaced for them, so i've got: DDR2: 2x 512mb PC2-3200s 1x 512MB PC2-4200 2X 512MB PC2-4200S 4X 512MB PC2-5300S DDR: 2X 256MB PC2700 2X 256MB PC2100S If your not sure what you have got/how much you have in your laptop let me know and i'll tell you how to check and if it's compatible... Going cheap and installation is available...

Becareful with NAS devices, make sure they will park/put the hardrive to sleep when not in use for extended time periods otherwise they will burn the drive out much quicker than your home/work pc... on some of the cheaper drives i've heard stories of them burning out in less than 6 months... I'd soon slap a monster drive in your media pc, and run it via that... if your running N standard it's 108mb anyways... just share it from your media center pc for use in the rest of the house... thats what i've done as 90% of the time i'm playing my music/movies through that pc anyways... Set your pc to wake on lan activity and it will always be available with the benifits of drive parking...

depending on how you want to there are a few other options... PC based home theatre... You can build these very cheaply now days... Hell i'm running an old p4 3.8ghz machine with a reasonable graphics card and big hard drive... Connect up something like xp media center edition (or windows 7) and run from a remote or bluetooth mouse/keyboard (bonus of net in lounge then). you can get full HD cards that would happily run in that system for sub $300. depending on the size of the room we ran a setup like this with a logitech speaker setup (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/home_pc_speakers/devices/224&cl=nz,en - older version of this - paid around $480 for it... ). If you got a tv capture card you could run the tv through the pc and control everything from the remote/mouse keyboard... and record your shows... A few of the guys here use old work machines for it... P4 3.2ghz slap 4gb of ram in it (cheap), 1/2 height hd card (sub 300) 1tb drive, and just use that for it all... Just remember all your old ripped movies will not be in HD... I've got mine running from my soundcard, into my old as Merantiz amp and into Wharfedale speakers with a 15inch sony powered sub... more than fine for me...

17's not super easy but lots of adaptors out there. 306/206/307/407 wheels also fit so there is a large selection of factory wheels availables and the cars coming out of japan tend to have aftermarket wheels. I know a few of the wreakers are importing cars for parts from japan with nice wheels on them... also 206 gti 180 wheels are the same as the 307 wheel (17inch 5 spoke) which look nice... Talk to Keith about Lowering springs... 35mm drop is tons and would still allow him to clear things... standard 406 sedan... 406 sedan lowered on 406 coupe wheels: 406 sedan on 17in DTM wheels:

there is the b/c pillar sort of rule... if you get hit in front of it then you shouldn't have turned, if you get hit behind it the other person's fault for failing to stop... i'm probably wrong but thats what i thought it was...

I was talking about back in 95 / 96 not 09 so 13 / 14 years ago

back in 95 / 96 when i got my licence the defensive driving course consisted of driving around the block... Nothing really special.. Had to do a min of 4 lessions to cut the time needed to get my next stage... No Full Licence Test back then... The restricted test was driving around the block in Orewa... MS BM: Personally $50 - $60 is nothing when you compare the cost of oversea's licencing cost like Germany.. http://www.toytowngermany.com/lofi/index.php/t42662.html "I did mine about 2 years ago in Frankfurt. The whole thing cost about €2,000. This included mock exams, eye test, theory test, driving test, lessons, mock exams and so on. Their is a minumum number of theory hours you have to attend and a minimum number of hours you must spend in the car" You are also required to have a first aid course completed also.. I use to work from 6pm to 2am every Friday and Saturday night when i was 16-18 to pay for sports, car, buses, etc... It's really funny as when i was that age my disposable income (living with the folks) was a lot more than what i've got now...

Pjay - There are more than enough "Laws" to cover the stupid behaviour of people, it's more the enforcement of those current laws that needs to happen. I'd recommend you have a look at: http://fastandsafe.org/ It's not 18, it's not so much the cars, it's the people, and the NZ Driver training system. IT's too damm easy to get your licence... YOU SHOULD NOT BE TAUGHT BY YOUR FOLKS! You should need to attended driver training, skid pan, and car control classes... IT SHOULD BE MANDATORY IN SCHOOL!!! I know so many people that should not be driving due to being inept at it, but yet have passed the NZ "get you licence in a cereal box" Driver Licencing System. Hell there was even an interpreter doing the exams for Islanders, he was providing the answers to the oral questions correctly when the person sitting the exam was saying the wrong answer...

MS BM: Please note the following has been a direct response from: Office of Hon Steven Joyce Minister of Transport Minister for Communications and Information Technology Associate Minister of Finance Associate Minister for Infrastructure ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Heath Thank you for your email of 18 June 2009 to Hon Dr Coleman, in which you raise concerns about some of the provisions of the new illegal street racing legislation, more formally known as the Land Transport (Enforcement Powers) Amendment Bill. Your email has been forwarded to me for a reply as the matter you raise falls within my portfolio. The definition of 'cruising' given in the Bill is: "driving repeatedly over the same section of a road in a motor vehicle in a manner that- (a) draws attention to the power or sound of the engine of the motor vehicle being driven; or ( creates a convoy that- (i) is formed otherwise than in trade; and (ii) impedes traffic flow." The 'anti-cruising' bylaws are aimed at reducing the noise, intimidation and disruption caused by illegal street racers who repeatedly use the same streets. Often this happens late at night or in the early hours of the morning, creating a disturbance for residents and businesses in the area. Road controlling authorities will have the power to specify which streets will be covered by a bylaw, as well as the times of the day that the bylaw will apply. These bylaws are not intended to penalise genuine car enthusiasts taking part in legitimate activities. This matter will be scrutinised by Select Committee to ensure that there are no unintended negative consequences for legitimate motorists. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think Shady was referring to the anti-cruising portion of the law not the car crushing part. I have a been activity asking questions to my MP and also other in areas to which they are responsible. There is room for abuse of powers by the police - for which if interpertated in certain ways could see the prevention of car club meets and drive days. Given that meets/park ups are potentially covered under a couple of laws its no real difference.

Sorry i was refering to the warning light colors not so much the interior lighting colors... I read the bit about : "The bulbs project onto moulded orange plastic so no you can't paint them." And was thinking about the warning lights in the dash (low fuel, engine stop light, water temp, etc...)
-
It's because orange is the color that is a recognised warning color... Red is used for stop / damage of parts as it's the color most recognized but the human race as bad/Stop... red is also the easiest color for t he human i.e. to pick up if i remember correctly

ya those two where the car mags i grew up with... i came to nz and was sorely dissapointed in the NZ / AUS mags...
-
I stopped reading car mag's a long time ago... I found them altogether bland... you could almost expect what they would say before you read it... Plus the obligitory burnout pictures... I use to read a lot of Car and Driver / Road & Track in the states and found them much nicer to read... Too many of the storys in the new mags are less about the cars and more about the people writting them...
