Where to get a replacement key in Wellington?
Ahmedsinc replied to 340i's topic in General Discussion
Just got a quote this morning for a genuine OEM RF IR key cut and coded to our Jap import E39, $242 + GST. Non - remote type was $140ish + GST. Far cheaper than I had anticipated and genuine parts instead of dubious quality knockoffs. Doubt they would do a group buy discount as each key is an individual item, could be worth asking though? Edit: mistaken key identity -
I noticed slightly sharper turn in response when running E39 style 66 8" front & 9" rears on my E36 sedan. 225/45 front & 255/40 rear. Not sure whether it was the staggered setup or the extra track gained by the 20mm / side offset decrease or entirely psychosomatic. The tyre sticker on the sill will only be relevant to the 17" options for the 328i, should be able to disregard safely given you're using M3 Contours (nice wheel BTW!) 245s on the wider rims is a good idea, you'll probably see an increase in rear grip given you'll gain a little sidewall flex, though I'm guessing it won't be noticeable unless you're hooning around a track Won't look as 'hellaflush' tho

Needing a good used M10 thermostat please. Picked up an '85 318i as a daily while Pigpen is off the road, temp needle never moved out of the blue zone when bringing it home last week. Highway driving and less than 6* outside when brought home, ran in the driveway for approx 30 min today and still on the cool side. Failing that, is it possible to unstick a stuck thermostat? Will go for new if no other choice but figured someone might have a good old one laying about after a cooling system service. Chur!

Should also add the disclaimer that usually as soon as I pipe up with " XYZ parts are hard to find here" the prospective buyer frequently gets what they're looking for

Sharp pricing man, best interior spec too. If we weren't begging and pleading for a house I'd be all over this sucker like a rash! Best of luck!

Should've dumped it all in a mk 2!!

Offset and width on the 109s please?

E39 M sport ones look pretty good too. Should be able to get one pretty cheap as well, OEM part too as a bonus

Try them on and see??

+1 on Timeserts, given 2 helicoils failed on my mower I wouldn't be too keen on using them on a car engine. I would imagine by the time you removed and stripped the engine, paid for a pro to do the Timeserts, inspect & machine the head, new fasteners and gaskets etc etc it would be more cost effective to just pay the $1500 - odd and throw a replacement engine in the hole. Disadvantages to doing that too, but damned if you do / don't really!

Might have a bit more luck on eBay, Turbines / Throwing Stars / M-Parallels / Style 5 are practically Unobtanium in NZ Last set I know of that sold through here were missing the covers, think they might have belonged to Brent. If you're not already a member, the BMWCCNZ would probably yield the best results for you. Good luck dude, hope you find some! Edit: spelling*

Sorted, thanks Dave

Hola, need to find a helix plunger cup to suit M52TU / M54 to reset the cam timing on my M54 project. Minimal cost preferred, I know I had at least one spare but I'm damned if I know whats happened to it. Ta muchly

My guess is leaking HG, resulting pressure in cooling system has blown an end cap off the radiator causing the puke on the motorway. That hissing sound will probably be 'zorst gas venting from places it ought not to be. Get it to a reputable shop and have them run a full leak down test. At least then you'll know where its let go. Bummer is, once the M54 overheats they tend to tear the head bolts out of the block = bricked engine. The heads crack real easy too, they're a real single use only engine unfortunately. Maybe book it in with Glenn if you can get the car transported to Botany? Good luck dude!

Depends what you want really. If you're expecting every last hp & tq extracted from an engine with zero real input from you then the high end systems are what you want. Personally I've learned a metric sh*t-ton about 4 stroke EFI piston engines in the last few months and I haven't physically started with my M54 swap yet. If you wish to deliver your car to someone and haven them do all the work then there are multitudes of options available, all with their respective gains and downfalls. If you want to learn and don't mind applying a little effort then consider an MS. No you probably won't end up with a polished pro result but there's massive satisfaction in building something as opposed to just buying it That oughta fling the cat amongst the pigeons!

How much of a difference is there between the M70 & M73? Possible to swap crank, rods etc or are there hidden pratfalls? Megasquirt 2 & 3 will happily run a V12................. Comparatively very affordable so long as you're not afraid of getting dirty paws (Devils advocate)

^^^^ This!!! The Facefart page held fleeting potential, but seems to be populated in the main by folk that think RX7 springs are a perfectly acceptable alternative spring to say, fit for purpose parts. I forget who the page admins are, but y'all got more patience than me!!!!

There's a complete E30 conversion kit plus another kit minus the gearbox. Three other E30 specific gearboxes and a couple flywheels available from various sellers too. I really CBF linking each one. Heaps of model specific info for what to do if you use the search function. Manual conversion kits seem to be listed on tardme as the first option these days as not everyone that owns a bimmer knows about this site. Brent @ BMWorld & Ray @ HellBM are the two primary member parts sources on here, but if you're hoping to get a full kit on the cheap you're probably going to be disappointed. Not being rude mate, just letting ya know how it works round here. Good luck though, putting a proper 'box in a car is the single most satisfying project to tackle!
