  1. Gonna be a goldmine when it sells at auction!
  2. Am I asking a taboo question? Or is this one in the too hard basket?
  3. Is there anyone around that has the ability to flash a 413 chip with S50B32 data? Have found a thread on an overseas forum where the OP ran an M54B30 on a red label 413 DME with a Turner / Dinan or similar chip to sort out the fuel etc tables. From what I've seen so far all the aftermarket stuff raises rev limit etc which I don't want. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
  4. Lapped the zorst valves in and took delivery of my care package from Pelican. Did the valve cover gaskets on the Mrs' 530i. Surprising how an old gasket welds itself to the head, to the point that the cover cracks when trying to remove. Used spare cover, threw broken item on the junk pile. Discovered that an M50 Vanos plunger will mate up to an M54 cam. Now this opens up a few more possibilities!!
  5. Man have I got bad news for you mate - chain guides are plastic too. Got a B30 in the shed with it's head off, M50 is the same.
  6. Different crank bolt pattern? Where's the difference?
  7. Anyone know if a single mass M30 flywheel & clutch setup will work on an M50 with G250? Am finding conflicting information as to whether it works or not
  8. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-814680405.htm http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-818604771.htm Nah, not too bad really.
  9. +1 for Pelican. Gives you the option of genuine parts for nearly everything, unlike other suppliers where it's aftermarket or nothing. Bit of a pain waiting for things to arrive from 'Murica but fine if you're not in a hurry. Does pay to keep import tariffs in mind, often it is cheaper to use a local supplier. I have the same issue with my touring re the hatch struts - it's a ceiling liner out job so will pay to have the new parts ready and waiting to go straight back in. Good to see another M54 touring! Welcome aboard
  10. Yeah mate, they're plastic from the M52TU onwards. Bloody terrible idea, they warp as they age, rendering the valve cover gasket mostly useless. Hooray for mandatory use of recycled plastic - thanks, EU!!
  11. I guess buying an engine someone has started to rebuild will always have its potential problems - i.e you just don't know how good a job they've done up to that point. $2800 is a pretty big gamble in that regard. Were I in your shoes I'd have a think about a basic overhaul on your M62. Head gaskets, cooling system and oil gaskets. Definitely worth inspecting rod and crank bearings but I wouldn't replace them for the sake of it. I'm also assuming you're not planning on running huge boost through the motor. From talking to a few people I'm of the understanding that modern engines can usually take up to 6-7psi before needing upgraded internals, though call me out if I'm misguided here. And if the current motor goes pop a replacement will be easily and relatively cheaply sourced Just my two cents
  12. Try Gavin @ EuroItalian. Unit prices are higher than Pelican but you won't get reamed on import taxes & shipping How intensive is the rebuild?
  13. Had a nightmare with the passenger side window reg. Got pissed off and taped a rubbish bag over the non-closing window til Monday. Grrrrrr
  14. RealOEM shows all three as an option. Seems the original buyer was cheap. Seems to be in great condition though, perhaps the seller would be willing to take it to Coombes (Is that the Dunedin dealership?) for a full PPI? #S50envy
  15. Given the last post was over 18 months ago, probably not
  16. My old donk might be ready for a proper thrashing, with a little luck.
  17. With the right front wheel at such a funky angle I'd say there's some nasty damage between the steering rack / subframe / strut mounts / chassis rail. Another M54 liberated for better uses Those front pews & steering wheel would look nice in my car!
  18. Lol!! How the hell did that happen?!?!
  19. Try the Aussie Commodore Falcon forums, some XXXX soaked bogan will know what they are
  20. Uhhmmmmm...... what's Black Friday??
  21. Why bother? Massive amount of work for what tangible gain?
  22. As above, preferably with v3 board. Will look at MS3 as well if there's anything around Cheers
  23. Get the battery tested and go from there. E39s are notorious for electrical gremlins when the battery gets tired. IIRC resting voltage should be 12.6v for a 6 cell, anything under that suggests the cells are on their way out. Hotwire will probably chime in with a whole bunch more useful info, he's good like that (And please correct me if I'm wrong here)
