Seems that most of the data on that page is lifted from http://www.bmwtech.ru/pdf/e46/ST039/E46M54ENGS43.pdf Annoyingly they allude to the M54 having 9.7mm lift on intake side but don't list the duration of either cams. Which is what I'm dying to find out.
-
Or even better - does anyone have a login to BMW university / centernet? I keep coming across various training PDFs and they are the motherlode of data! Have seen the pdf of the N52, details right down to exact crankshaft weights, piston shirts thicknesses..... it's a nerds paradise!! Haven't yet found the M54 though

Killer. How much for the gearknob mate?

I've been doing hours of digging around the internets to find out the stock cam specs for the M50 / M52 / M54 range of engines. So far, the closest I've gotten is threads on other forums, which seem to be pretty hit & miss. My searching so far has turned up: M50B25NV - intake 240*, 9.7mm lift; exhaust 228*, 9.0mm lift M50B25TU - in 228*, 9.0mm; exh 228*, 9.0mm M52B28TU - in 228*, 9.0mm; exh 244*, 9.0mm M54B30 - in 240*, 9.7mm, exh 244*, 9.0mm S50B30US - in 252*, 10.2mm; exh 244*, 9.5mm S50B30 - in 260*, 12mm; exh 260*, 12mm Can anyone verify these specs? Or better yet, is there an online resource listing the factory figures? Getting quite tired of American threads where the OP lists information which then descends into an online argument where 20 other posts say the figures are wrong but don't post any supporting data. Thanks guys Edit: Have tried the Bentley, Chilton & Haynes manuals and none of them have the data I'm looking for either. Nor does RealOEM or WebETK

Try getting a hold of bellicose on here, haven't seen him around in ages though. Have seen photos of his work, pretty good quality. IIRC he's lower Nth Isl somewhere

Can get an E39 540i Msport for that money. Higher km probably, but at least parts won't cost you an organ each time. PM Hotwire on here and get his opinion on the electrical side of things. I've heard plenty of Merc horror stories in the past - same as BMW really but at least you can get bits fairly easily. Not so sure about the Benz

Hypothetically speaking, short of an abduction, under what circumstances would you find yourself deadlocked in your own car without the key at hand? Only situation I can think of is fetching something from your car and a child accidentally hits the lock button. Which is why I never go into the car without the key in my pocket - I'm THAT paranoid

Holy crap, that's flawless!! Bit of a stretch claiming it to be "If you want the most original, lowest mileage and highest specified 325i manual in NZ this is the car to own. It will not disappoint." Build sheet shows no LSD, comfort seats instead of sports etc... Still think CalypsoRot was the best colour they ever threw at the E30 though. Gorgeous!

e36 M3 sedan Coilovers experiences?
Ahmedsinc replied to m3Dakar's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
+1 for what Justin said. Coilovers are fine if you're forever changing the ride height or if you track at multiple circuits. But they get uneconomic pretty quick IMO once you factor in the cert plate cost. And regardless, if your bushes are poked a set of coilovers won't make any real difference except being a lot harder on the ride quality, and to run a true coilover in the rear requires a whole heap of bracing & reinforcement to stop the damn thing from punching through the strut tower. Go for a full ball joint & bush overhaul (front control arms, rear trailing arms, subframe, swaybars and diff bushes) then look at a set of H&R / Vogtland / Eibach coils and a set of adjustable Koni / Bilstein shocks. Will probably work out more expensive than throwing medium quality coilovers at it but the results would be exponentially better. Just my 2c of course -
White looks good against most colours. Or just leave them a they are - slightly less likely to be nicked if they don't shout for attention, especially if you live in Orcland!
-
Order the genuine BMW coolant from your nearest stealer. Costs about the same but is slightly different in composition - will be better suited to your engine as far as corrosion goes and is less prone to rot out the engine plastics

In the process of moving house I've managed to lose the injector to fuel rail retaining clips from my M54 Part 6 in the diagram, #13537528539 If anybody has 6 of these lying around that you have no use for I'd be eternally grateful! Thanks

Must be worth at least +5hp!

Gutted for ya dude On re-reading the OP the way it's written does look suss, and "pickup in Otago" should've been a giveaway too. Uber lame!!

If you want to give it an overhaul then you're up for gaskets, bolts, head skim etc to get the engine back to its original output. If you want more ponies, then high comp pistons, new cams, larger valves & port grinding, new rings, gaskets plus a remap / new DME etc etc etc. Be prepared to replace every o-ring, oil seal, hose and spend a LOT of time cleaning and polishing. Brother in law recently rebuilt his Audi 2.8 V6 using 30 valve heads etc, new pistons cost him well over $1500 before rings. If you just want a reasonably cheap bump in power go turbo. NA power can be had but good God it doesn't come cheaply. Probably the best bet is to start with another engine so yours is still on the road while you do the overhaul. Bear in mind that if you choose FI then you're probably going to need an uprated clutch and possibly a stronger diff as well. A lot of cash can be saved if you can weld / have a friend that will do it for you. As I've learned in the last year, any increase in oomph requires a lot of time and quite a bit of money. There are a number of threads around documenting various M10 rebuilds, spend a bit of time researching just what can be done and make a decision on your goals. Ie 300hp NA M10 is just dreaming, but with a turbo it'll be doable. Engine swaps are easier, but I personally wouldn't bother with anything less than a M52B28. Sohc just ain't worth the effort unless you have your heart set on one Good luck dude!
-
Bwahahahaha! Famous last words! Jokes aside, this swap needs a thread!
-
Looks like it was lucky to be crashed before it got slapped with a pinky!

There's an M54B30 - E30 build on R3V which makes for very interesting reading if you're wanting to do something a little different. If you buy a bare engine I have a set of M52 tubular factory headers for cheap if needed
-
Afaik, yup. Should also point out it's wheel only, no airbag or slip ring available
-
Killer. Will send a PM tomorrow

Wifey ditched the Mountain buggy for a Kelty (?) unit for the reason it just took up so much room. Boot space shrank going from the B5 Passat to the 530i. If your Mrs has given approval for a 335i as a family wagon, get the car then worry about making stuff fit
-
Using M50 intake and single vanos so no point. Keeping everything just in case I change my mind. Probably a stupid question, but I don't suppose the Siemens chip would fit the Bosch board?
-
From an '01 nz new 530i M. Same as M5 Meant to use in the Mrs' wagon but never got around to it. No airbag or slip ring Buttons and leather all in good condition $200 ono
