Funny, intake manifold looks kinda similar to the chunky old M50 item. Have you moved your workshop location????

Yup. Not hard, just need patience & skinny arms, a little common sense, some time and the right tools What ya need?

Well I'll be damned, always thought the 70 was iron. Learn summit' noo every day!

photos / mileage / price?

Unless the shell has had the VIN transplanted (highly illegal from what I hear) it will always show as a 528i. Providing the cert is current there are insurers around that will happily take modified cars, how much it will cost is another matter entirely. At 19k it might be worth a punt. If you ever have trouble reselling it'd probably be worth more in parts than as a reshelled M. The genuine wheels alone with good rubber are worth circa 2k to the right buyer........... the engine, DME, loom and trans package probably 15k+. Do it, before I talk the missus into letting me grab it

LS1 would be a better swap candidate in my books. V8 340 hp / 350 ft/lb vs. V12 320hp, 360 ft/lb. Being an iron block I'd imagine the V12 to be far heavier over the nose than the LS, plus the V8 requires minimal mods to the subframe. From memory the LS is about the same weight as an iron M50. Better power to weight ratio, massive amount of aftermarket go faster bits for the LS as opposed to none for the M72, far easier conversion as you'll actually have a bit of room around the V8 and the LS is physically a tiny wee engine given capacity and output. Probably fewer if any suspension changes with the LS too, I hate to think what you'd need to counter the M73 with. Brakes will need changing with both conversions. On the other hand, the M73 would have the wow factor for the purists. Cheaper initial costs but i reckon long term the V8 would be more cost effective. Just my ten cents

Yah, I'm pushing my luck getting stuck into this with baby #2 getting closer as it is! But the GSR would bring back a LOT of fond teenage memories......... The missus would kill me, the missus would kill me, the missus would kill me, the missus would kill me..................

Hey Ken. Needing something that can be driven away with minimal effort & expense. WoF repairs etc are just taking time and money away from my primary project. Having said that a GSR would be fun....probably too much fun! Thanks for the thought though!

Dude, what makes it cool is that it isn't perfect. If you make it look like a bought one it just looks like you bought it. Diy win!

Email from USPS yesterday, looks like I've been bagged by Customs. Stink! I use Pelican mostly because OEM parts are reasonably priced and are frequently at my doorstep sooner than local aftermarket suppliers can arrange delivery. Still, at least it hasn't been lost! Stupid taxes

Will have to keep an eye on the letterbox then. Have used Pelican a few times before, has always been handled here by Courierpost and arrives far quicker than thought. Except for this time. If I am getting a bill from the 'gummint it's a bit strange that it hasn't yet been scanned by the local agent. According to the faqs on the Courierpost site it should be scanned, then taxed by Customs (if applicable) then scanned again once released for final delivery. Pelican have started an inquiry and given me a case number, but without anything to reference it to I'm still in the dark - and partless Thanks all

Ordered a bunch of maintenance bits for the E39 a couple weeks back from Pelican, according to the USPS tracking tool it left the US on the 12th of June, arrived in NZ on Sunday 14th. As of this evening, NZ / Courier post have no record of the package being handed over from the airline, and I have not yet heard from Customs (hoping I don't!!) Pelican have attempted to track it's location but haven't come back with anything more than an inquiry number which I assume is to do with USPS, and "we hope you will receive your order soon", and NZ Post aren't interested until it gets released to them. I've tried to contact USPS directly but for the life of me I can't find an appropriate email tool for international queries, only domestic stuff (i.e. the online form refuses to process if the delivery address doesn't have a US state) According to the CS rep at Courierpost it should show up on the online tracker if the item has been held by Customs, but thus far it doesn't seem to have been scanned in NZ Any info or hints would be sweet!

Apologies. Non Motorsport, dome type as opposed to earlier flat lens ones. Ta!
