  1. Negative, sir. RealOEM had the E34 ratio as 3.46, would have been perfect to swap the ring & pinion into my spare E36 case. E39 uses a shorter input shaft on the pinion, alas. I've got an E39 3.46 that I was going to use for the swap until I found that little gem of information
  2. Running the vin on the 413 Bosch DME says its from an E34 525i. Don't suppose you still have the diff, do you?
  3. Not in the slightest! Was the second thought that came to mind, right after 'sh*t thats tidy!' Do it!!!!!
  4. Ha, you'd instantly get a life ban from the club but the concept of an E31 with zoomies is awfully appealing!

    M TOY M3

^^^ This One of my all time favourites along with Style 5, M-Pars and T-Stars
  6. Stopped by Wallace Heron on Monday and grabbed some fine lapping paste and the doofer that sticks to the valve. Been laid low with some kind of a tummy bug, so progress has been nil til it passes through. Cheers James, will have a go at seating these ones and holler if the seats need more attention Am tempted to have the head skimmed a tiny bit to raise the comp ratio but will do more research before I rush into anything. I suspect the potential risks will outweigh any benefits but it'll make for an interesting read
  7. That'd be me. Need to come see you next week for some window clips, will flick ya a text
  8. Great news that you're mobile again! Really hate to think what this little exercise has cost ya dude
  9. Haven't lapped them in as yet, no grinding done at all.The set came from a spare head I have, M52TUB28. Engine was overheated but it's the only damage I'm aware of. Wouldn't be too keen on using water as there is the chance the stems will begin to rust. Figured kero would be good but it would evaporate a little. Am guessing a solvent would be ideal as if there are any gaps it will find it, but will evaporate. 0W / 5W engine oil? ATF? Diff oil maybe?
  10. Righto, so I've swapped the exhaust valves that I believed to be bent on the M54 head. Whats the best way to check if they're all seated correctly? Bear in mind I'm a DIY hack and it's my first ever go at tackling valves. My best idea so far is to invert the head and fill each bowl with kero and see if anything comes through the zorst ports. Would this give a reliable result or is there a better way to work this one out? Cheers!
  11. Has bought me a night on the sofa, I've already stunk out the bedroom
  12. Found a bunch of fractures so turned it into a table Finally found a use for the old cast iron block that I've been tripping over in the shed for months. Quite a handy jig for making repairs to the set of twisties. Not in as bad a condition as I had initially thought, won't take much at ll to fix them up Finally found my missing bag of zorst studs and separated the copper nuts from the studs......... amazing how WD40 soaks into the skin and how long the aroma lasts for. 13 hours and counting
  13. Boot has a worse pinch point than the doors. Same on E36
  14. RealOEM will probably have an exploded diagram of the offending item
  15. A Lada with an M60? I'm scratchin' my head over this one too!
  16. I realise the dust (or mud) is barely starting to settle after the weekend, but are there any thoughts on doing this again next year? For the Upper North Island folks Hampton Downs would be the perfect place to do it again. Skid pan for those that want to give it some hell, miles of space for a show n' shine / hardpark / whatever the kids call it these days, oh and the track Only suggestion I'd make would be to hold the event more around March. Late October through mid December is notoriously changeable as far as the weather goes. Might be easier to schedule around the race series too? Would be freakin awesome to get the official car club involved too, I'm betting there are some gorgeous machines tucked away that would be well appreciated by the general public.
  17. Hell no, dude. Water inside the cylinder for any reason is always bad news. Only thing that should get your plugs wet is flooding with fuel, or oil entering the combustion chamber from worn rings or stem seals. Water won't cause a misfire, though it will happily shatter rods, snap cranks, and kill an engine in other gory ways
  18. E46 M3 front springs in a E36 325i. Will they be suitable and will they fit? Have spied a pair on the facebook page, wondering if they'll do a better job than the Eibachs I currently have. Grazi
  19. ^^^ This It's far easier to just buy a car that does everything you want than build it. When an E36 M3 can be had for 15 grand why bother turbocharging / swapping engines / paying for certs etc? There will always be a subset of the population that tinker because we love it. Hopefully the majority will keep posting what they're up to here
  20. Could be a set of M-Pars up for grabs soon

    S52 Cams

    What are the specs?
  22. BMW Car Club NZ. Added an extra 'A' by mistake. I blame the pilseners
  23. I'll second that. Despite some of the heaviest rain I've seen in at least a week it was fun, even though I was only watching. Saw some cool machinery (that Alpina is hawt!) put some faces to names and got drenched. Great day out, hopefully my junker will be ready for the next one
