There's something seriously offputting about an ad that features his backwards baseball cap wearing mates. Plus all the 'drift' parts suggests rather strongly that it's been thrashed pretty heavily. Hmmm

For a car as new as yours, I have no idea. Google is your friend! Dinan would be a good place to start looking, Turner Motorsports may offer something too. Again, Google will answer most questions. Oil on MAF sensors is a universal problem. Plus the foam type filters will start to disintegrate as they age, sending foreign matter into your engine. Which is never good. If you're chasing more horsepower you might find it easier to sell what you have and get into a Bimmer with a bit more oomph than the 116i and 320i can offer. A hypothetical 5hp gain on a daily driven street car will make no noticeable difference, moving up to say a 325i, with 95bhp more than your 120bhp 116i, will. Just my 2c

RX4 on those 17" Simmons. And a S/C S62

I'd say most people do the research and discover the M30s never really had a reputation for being light on the gas. And I suspect a lot of people looking at a 2k budget for a car would be looking for something economical and small, not a great big hairy German autobahn gobbler.

You might find the aftermarket filters don't make too much of a difference to a stock motor besides a slight increase in induction noise. Plus the MAF sensors tend to sh*t themselves when the filter oil makes its way through the intake. Your engine ends up breathing hot air from the engine bay that has the effect of reducing horsepower. So you basically waste whatever time & $ you spent on the filter. Better off buying OEM spec than the usual K&N / HKS / other crap from repco that make claims that usually can't be substantiated I reckon. Or look at a proper cold air induction kit from Dinan or similar. More expensive but at least they put the R&D into their designs

Will be interesting to see if GM ever identify the growing diesel following here. Would make the VF a real alternative to the likes of the Mondeo etc as a good rep and family car. As for the XF estate, it's only the third Jag I've ever REALLY wanted. The styling is really subdued until you have a good second look, really grows on ya though. Want!

Add a new radiator to that list too, as well as replacing any dying hoses. The end tanks on the E36s are know to blow from being brittle due to age. Might cost an extra $300 but better peace of mind than a dead car with you stranded. Use BMW coolant too, the cheap crap ya get over the counter from local parts stores has a habit of rotting out the plastics in your cooling system. Costs about the same for the genuine stuff. All stuff I learned the hard way

Chances are your heater tap is jammed full of goo. There are plenty of how-tos on the net about removing and cleaning it out, just an awkward d*ck of a job. Cooling overhaul is advisable, these motors don't appreciate getting hot under the collar. Unless you have proof it's been done, assume it hasn't

Could be keen mate - how difficult is it to do? Pm me your phone #

Really good idea man, I'd say there will be a few in the hotrod / race / classic / drag scene that would be interested too. Good to see kiwi ingenuity is still alive and well!

Just resize them to 800x600 when you upload Much easier than farting about with camera settings and ending up with crap res images

Hi, anyone got a good magnetic clutch to suit what I'm assuming is a Denso A/C compressor on a '94 325i? Jap assembled, haven't yet had the chance to wipe the crap off the unit and confirm manufacturer. Mine sounds like the bearings have collapsed. Also, does anyone have a set of gauges in Auckland I could borrow to see if the system still holds pressure? Am trying to decide between deleting the system altogether or trying to resurrect it. Will happily pay in beer for the hire fee Chur!

+1 Best to do your own research and list accordingly. The market will soon tell you if you're realistically priced

Will an OBDI ecu be a straight swap into another OBDI car? Looking at sourcing a manual ecu to swap my auto one out for once the new gearbox has gone in. Will it require any recoding or will it just think its in the same body? Sorry if these questions are becoming tedious TIA

I know the M52 E36s run to a single pipe as opposed to the dual 2 and a bit inch stainless system on the M50s. From what I've seen the system on mine is identical to the NZ new and UK imports. Not fantastic, but certainly a less restrictive setup than the 323s. More so after I rip the clogged up old cats out and biff them in the skip! Any gain for a reasonably small sum is a good one!
-
May well be the case mate, nearly 20 more horses and 20 ft/lb torque does seem to be a rather substantial lift over standard tune. Are there any forums or resources online dedicated to the M50? Am very keen to get to the bottom of this! Am also curious to discover what sort of increases can be gained from remapping the stock ecu, wonder if Gavin @ hi velocity or Hybrid can cast any light on this?

Ditch the racks and get rid of the stickers, otherwise that coupe is great! Not a fan of the whitewalls either, 9" x 15 or 16" steelies would look much better As for the rat, guess what I'm buying when I become a gazillionaire!!
-
I was pondering that, but figured by the time I paid for trans - Pacific shipping twice plus the geek hours I'd probably get a better result by taking it to a reputable local tuner Just proves when something looks too good to be true, it is!
-
I feared as much. Had no idea if there was a difference between US and rest of the world on the M50s. Bums What are the differences anyways? I know there was a gaping chasm between the S50 and the 3 litre M50 they put in the M3s over there but hadn't heard about the M50B25
-
Has anyone had experience with Dinan ECU chips? Am looking at the M50B25 one http://www.dinancars.com/shop/Call-Dinan-Performance-Engine-Chip.aspx#page=1 and am trying to find out if it can be coded to suit the manual conversion (reset idle rev etc) - or is that in a different part of the ECU? Either way, 18hp and 20 ft/lb for $240 plus shipping sounds pretty good to me! Or would the real world gains be somewhat more modest than claimed?
-
Likey likey! Right, something worthwhile for the 325i - the hunt is on for either a genuine set or cad drawings to make 'em myself
-
That's a nice gain on the torque curve!! Was this using the stock air intake? And where exactly would one find S50 headers. WITHOUT taking a second mortgage to pay for them?
-
Yah, the coby branded ones are about a hundy cheaper. Still getting my head around that one The main problem I face at the moment is justifying $600-800 on plumbing when there's a newborn baby to factor in to the budget. Main reason I'm looking at making them myself is that I can spread the cost over however long I need to, and the satisfaction of doing it myself Will touch base with him and see what sort of $ he's looking for, though I suspect it's outta my budget for a fair while yet.
-
Maybe. Will depend on how much difference it makes *Edit. Would prefer the illuminated one if it's possible to go combo with shipping
