That thing must be making a lot of smelly smoke for traffic behind it to enjoy... But damn it's gotta be fun with all that torque.

Yup, all the best stuff is overseas, bought heaps of car (and non-car) stuff off Ebay and Amazon.... Here's what I bought: http://www.amazon.com/Forbes-recommend-iClever-Bluetooth-Hands-Free/dp/B00GJFGE0K/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1460972939&sr=1-1&keywords=Himbox They now have an upgraded version: http://www.amazon.com/iClever-HB01-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Multi-Point/dp/B011NR0BY8/ref=sr_1_2?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1460972939&sr=1-2&keywords=Himbox I stick it by the iDrive Controller so it's easy enough to reach. Edit: for some reason the upgraded one doesn't ship to NZ even though it's the same seller, might be a mistake.

Good call on the wrap, looks much better than the wood. And get a new charge pipe before you up the power. Not pleasant to have the stock one explode... it only took the BMW PPK to pop mine.
-
I'd pick the Bridgestones. They're a great match for a car of that power level and good value at that price I think, I've had the RE002s on my 328i and was happy with them.
-
Cheaper options are the Bluetooth Aux adaptors. I use the Himbox one, it's well rated, and works great for calls too. But I believe Tune2Air works with steering wheel controls, unlike anything using aux input, so it's probably worth it.

BMW Paint and interior protection, worth it?

For that kind of money you can get one of those ceramic coatings like CQuartz or Opticoat. A place called OCDetailng does that, maybe others. -
Leaky coilover repair/replace recommendation
Matth5 replied to Matth5's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
Looks like it's as simple as ordering a new insert from the local KW distributor and getting any local garage to install it. Not a bad issue after all. -
BW E92 335i Coupe KW V2 Coilovers Was trying out the damper adjustment for the first time when I noticed my right rear shock leaking oil right out of the adjustment slot (the damper adjustment tool goes in there). I'm in the east Auckland area. Who in the area could repair these? Would it be worth a rebuild or should I replace it? Pic:

Just like when people buy knock off AC Schnitzer crap on the older cars and call them AC Schnitzer editions, same will happen for other cars where they have special versions.
-
If it's anything like the E46, wiggle it enough and it'll eventually dislodge.
-
Nice but watch out for the tyres it has, close up photo shows the brand is 'Delinte'. Seems to be dodgy Chinese crap. Notice it has "night vision with object recognition" in the options list, interesting.
-
That's an interesting one, what tyres were they exactly? I've heard of non-rft tyres holding up surprisingly well in similar situations as well, so I'd hope the high end ones at least have enough sidewall stiffness to hold you steady for a bit. Maybe low profile tyres cope better since they have to be stiffer. I guess that's a risk to take into account. Also, isn't a non-run flat rooted once you have filled it with the can of spray gunk - so it has to be replaced, even if the tyre can be otherwise repaired? No that shouldn't happen, the stuff just needs to be washed off. Will just be a bit more work for the tyre shop to spray it off and find the puncture.

That's not gonna fit an E46 320 (that's what your profile says you have) You can do a 'budget' exhaust mod with decent results. Google the "BMW 335i PE mod". You can modify the mufflers to match the PE exhaust and have new exhaust tips welded on. I bought these tips based on recommendations on e90post: http://www.ebay.com/itm/261640978901?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT If you want the burnt tip style I'm sure you can find those too. Get an exhaust shop to do this for you. If the PE mod isn't loud enough, you can take it further and wrap/replace even more of the perforated piping. I emailed a place in Auckland called Mighty Mufflers and they estimated this to run about $300 if they do it. I have not done it yet though.
-
Definitely get a specialist to inspect it. The fact it has a WOF and AA inspection just tells you there isn't anything obvious. Autosure warranty is good but it rules out mods, and many people love to mod 335is for power because it's so easy. They're awesome cars though, love mine. As above, my warranty has also paid for itself. Waterpump and charge pipe went on mine. Waterpump was a small leak so wasn't urgent, charge pipe exploded after flashing the BMW Performance Power kit so I replaced with an aftermarket metal one.
-
Would probably add some nasty drone. You could have the mufflers modified, for example if they have resonated pipes inside you can reduce the resonated sections by wrapping or replacing with straight pipe. Or if you want to try a delete, go for it, just keep them in case you don't like the result.
-
Be patient and maybe another will pop up. I was browsing for a 335i for 6 months and wouldn't have landed one nearly as good as this for the money I paid if I bought any sooner.

Someone posted this, makes the confiscation make more sense: http://legislation.govt.nz/act/public/2002/0009/latest/DLM136853.html?search=ts_act%40bill%40regulation%40deemedreg_Sentencing+Act+2002_resel_25_a&p=1%2f It is because he did this within 4 years of a serious driving offense. Still think it's harsh. Man that Trademe forum is an embarrassment, some of the comments there are so stupid...
-
Oh and you have the N55 so get the Performance Power Kit. Even with the stock exhaust in enhances the sound nicely, adds more burbles and pops, sounds awesome. On some N55s it works without the activation code so no need to buy it from BMW, anyone who can do the Alpina flash can do it as the process is similar. BM Workshop Botany did it for me.

PE mod. You can do it for the 335i, not sure about 135i but I'm sure there's a way as it's pretty standard stuff. Basically cutting open the mufflers and covering up or replacing some of the perforated pipe inside. That's the only difference to the internals on the BMW Performance Exhaust. Much cheaper than a new exhaust. A place in Auckland called Mighty Mufflers told me they can do it when I asked about my car (although I haven't had it done, still undecided), try them perhaps. Then for the looks, you can buy new exhaust tips from Ebay, have your stock ones chopped off and the new ones welded on.

Yup, the intention of taking the car away was clearly as a punishment and not as a way to prevent him from driving. If he was a real menace with a car I'd expect him to be banned from having a car at all. Taking a car away should only be done when extreme measures are needed and the person needs to be banned from driving/car ownership. But those would be the kind of cases that warrant jail time anyway I think.
-
Those are extreme cases and should be resulting in people being locked up though. Someone with 29 convictions shouldn't even be walking freely! Like I said, NZ has a weird way with justice.
-
I tried some Chinese Ebay wipers once, they were ok at first but after a few weeks they got so noisy that I put my 'worn' Bosch wipers back on Bosch wipers are excellent.

I don't think taking people's (legally obtained) property is the right way for the law to deal with offences. A burnout is far from the worst thing someone can do with a car, worthy of a fine at the most unless he loses control and swerves around traffic/pedestrians. One previous conviction, we don't know the full circumstances there. NZ really has weird ways of dishing out justice. Relatively little punishment for thefts and violent crime, but will take away a $60k car for doing a burnout, crazy. His excuse sucks, yes, I'll bet it was an intentional burnout and he's BS'ing his way out, but I still think the punishment is poorly thought out and excessive.

Look into Dynavin or an Android unit rather. More for your money than trying to hack an iDrive unit in. iDrive isn't that great.
-
Either negotiate a free warranty or a discount on the price, as the dealers don't pay full price for the warranty you may be able to get more value out of that. The cars are pretty reliable but when things break the bill can easily be over $1k.
