  1. So today I transformed the look of my baby once again! Failed a WOF on Saturday on worn out rear tires.... semi slicks only lasted about 5 months! They are still perfectly fine for track use but no longer upto mr wof mans standards! So it forced my hand into having to buy new tires.... Decided to run My AC Schnitzer rims for once! So a full brand new set of rubber on all 4 rims and I think it looks amazing! (Maybe need more low in the front end)
  2. Washed, and fitted some fog lights I got the other day, also took some photos.... These fogs are temporary until my other yellow fog lights get sent up along with my M3 mirrors and one other supprise that is coming.... Watch this space next week all going well!!!!
  3. Yep sure did lol, its a PFL 320i sedan we picked up cheap but it had a uncracked dash that was quickly swapped into my little bros E30 coupe, also got an e21 323i 5 speed coupe in the same deal lol. Also cheers for the support guys, managed to get a couple of shots of it the other day Also my dad is going to test fit some different sized tires on the AC Schnitzer mags to see if he can get the under the guards, if anyone knows what size tires will fit nicely with 17x8.5 et13 please let me know! I was thinking of going for something like a 205/45/17 or similar to get a little bit of the stretched look while also being functional to fit under the guards. This would also mean that I am no longer daily driving on semis lol. 2000km done already on the new box and diff and its running mint, so much better with the ratios! Anyways here is some pics of the wee red beast!
  4. I have an m52b28 compact, its quite an easy swap if its got ews already, if it doesn't its still not too difficult, only a few more wires. M54 sounds a lot more complex with the whole fly by wire system etc and I am unsure of the wiring to get it all going. If you are keen to play about with wiring then the m54b30 would be awesome however the m52b28 swap would be less of a hassle. M52b28 in a compact with a manual box (As yours is a 316 manual Im assuming its a Getrag 220 box) chuck in a medium case e30 diff and your good to go! Have a read up on my project thread here: Also @_ethrty-Andy_ has a 328Ti track car and a thread on here which is well worth reading: http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/50304-friseur-auto/?hl=friseur The compact chassis is a hell of a lot of fun with the bigger engine, I just did 2000km's in mine the past 2 weeks driving it through central otago and it was so much fun through the bends!
  5. Okay so a bit of stuff has a happened with the little Ti since my last update! I did my headlights French style with yellow high beams, love the look they give! Also Christmas came a day early for the wee red beast with the new getrag box going in along with a 3.64 medium case E30 diff. The E30 diff was a direct bolt in pretty much, all that was required was swapping the output shafts over so that I could keep my original half shafts. Swapping the output flanges just involved popping them out with a pry bar, easily enough done! Also the speedo sensor for the e30 diff had a different plug on the end so I swapped over the original Ti one and it seems to work perfectly! The new box going in! Old box out and ready for the new one to go in! So the next thing to do was to make it look a bit better! The front bumper needed the massive crack fixed up along with a respray. First the bumper was prepped Once some base coat was put down Finally after the clear was added it it was all fitted up! Here you can also see the french headlights too! I need to get some new brackets so that I can mount up my yellow fog lights. I also gave my spare FL Grill surrounds a coat of satin black, I think it makes it look a bit meaner than the chrome! Also to tackle the rear end! My 2nd Ti had a towbar and msport rear bumper, so I thought it would be handy to have a towbar and possibly may later in the year get a little jetski to tow behind it. It was pretty quick and easy to fit it all up! And all done! That all that has been done so far! However i still have to take some glamour shots of her! There is also these genuine 4 door m3 mirrors and here is a little preview with some base coat on them.
  6. Christmas came a day early for the little red rocket! Managed to finally get the the new gearbox in with new penrite fluid, along with a short shifter! No more popping out of 3rd or 1st! Great success! Also managed to pick up an e30 medium case 3.64 diff yesterday, put that in at the same time while I had use of the hoist. Popped the original output flanges off the small case Ti diff and put them onto the e30 diff along with swapping the speedo sensor over, quite an easy swap, the hardest thing was getting it all lined up again! Pics and update to the project log will happen soon! Also boxing day will involve me buying some paint to respray my front bumper, will also swap on my msport rear kit, and 3 spoke msport steering wheel. Take away lesson from today.... I NEED a hoist in my life, it makes everything easier! With Dad and myself we were able to swap the gearbox and diff in 6 hours and that was including stopping for lunch and heading into the shops to get some new gearbox and diff fluid, so not too bad!
  7. So I guess this is where I should do a little write up and add all the stuff my dad has done on his 74 2002. It all began about 5 years ago when dad got the car in a dereg state that needed a full restore. Rusty sills were replaced and the full car was stripped down to bare metal, razor blades were used to scrape the layers of paint back, the car was originally green, but once we scraped off the red paint it was finally back to the bare metal. The drivers side floor was repaired too due to rust, finally making the car rust free! Unfortunitly dad didnt really get any pictures during the build of the car or of it in its stripped state. The guards were then cut and then welded to allow for the flares to be bolted on along with the BBS RS 15x8 et13 offset reps to be installed. This proved to be a bit of an issue come recompliance where an LVV Cert was also needed, this passed easily but added to the cost of the build. We managed to pick up a mint Tan leather interior out of a 635csi. This fitted in perfectly and the rear bucket seats look amazing and are amazingly comfy! The original 2L m10 single carby engine still powers it all but maybe one day in the future a twin carb setup or injected setup might be added to make the car a little easier to use as a bit more of a daily driver. The paint was chosen to be Polaris Silver, as the original 2002 turbos only came in the white or silver and my grandfather at the time owning a 1974 E9 3.0CS in polaris silver. So I guess here is the place where I will post some glamour shots of her! I have only shot the outside of the car but Im sure over time I will continue to utilize the little car as a stand in model whenever I want something pretty to take photos of! If you want to know more about this car feel free to ask, dad has a whole lot more on it and Im sure we will add more to the story of this car!
  8. I took pictures of my dads 2002, not my bmw but kinda close...
  9. I dont have any pics of the 323 or either of the e30's however I did manage to get some glamour shots of the 2002 tonight. Its such a dream car of mine! There are only 2 people on earth who it can be sold to... me or my little brother and I reckon I have first dibbs!!!!
  10. So the other day my old man decided we need more BMW's.... We picked up a 323i E21 factory 5 speed manual (Not the dogleg box ) thats straight as alltho needs paint, and has 6.5k of recipts for engine work with the rego on hold! In this same deal we also got a REG and WOF'd PFL 320i E30 sedan, it has a mint dash and runs mint! Needs some paint and the only downside to the cloth interior is one little cigerette butt burn in the drivers seat! These add to my collection of 2 e36 Ti's, my little brothers e30 coupe and my old mans E46 touring and 74 2002. Now.... what would a good running 323i e21 5 speed manual be worth these days if we were to respray it and tidy it all up? The E30 I am trying to claim for myself to paint up and keep as a little toy or as a daily while the 328Ti becomes more of a garage queen getting more time and money thrown at it
  11. I talked to a place in chch and you can get the webbing replaced however you need to make sure they use a tag on the end to make sure you can get a WOF, and the AC Schnitzer mirrors look best on the Ti IMO over the sedans and coupes, its also something different from M3 mirrors
  12. Yes I understand using low beams or just even fog lights to get underneath the fog, I was just using it as a slight example to show how the lowered contrast meant that it was still easy to see I am still loving the look and tbh dont use the high beams all too much.
  13. This is looking awesome! That flashing rig would be cool to see in action, where are you finding the info on how to build the flashing hardware and software side of things?
  14. Looks good man, going to put my spare m52b28 into my little brothers 2 door e30 coupe at some point too! As far as DME's go, get another m52b28 DME, along with the key chip and ews unit under the dash. There are tutorials online as to how to wire the ews system into e30's either that or buy yourself a flashed m52b28 dme with ews delete. The red 413 DME comes without EWS and is for M50b25 engines or if you did a full loom swap onto your b28 as my old b28 is. Any questions feel free to hit me up!
  15. As I think I saw somewhere mentioned the 635CSI seats all will fit into the 2002, alltho I think the rear seats are slightly narrower if I recall what my dad said about fitting them to his 2002. The 635csi seats are amazingly comfy and having buckets in the rear is just awesome, I only have this pic of them sorry!
  16. As everybody here is saying.... n42 engine sucks! Alltho another option is the slightly older E36 318Ti, IMO far better looking (Quite biased opinion here) however if you can pickup a good example that has been well maintained you can be sweet! Head gaskits seem to be the common issue with the older m44 and m42 engines however I had an m44 from 170xxxkm to about 250xxx km and it ran sweet the entire time! Only had normal maintenance such as oil changes. Only one issue was the Crank position sensor however it wasn't too much of an issue to fix and was the only real issue over the 7 years I ran that engine! P.S. there is a really cool 330Ti on trademe atm for about 9k... its got an m52b28 stroked engine in it, a LOT of fun!!!
  17. So I have been hunting the interwebz and have found a few goodies that I would absolutly love to have on my car.... However the rarity and cost is astronomical! First up is the E36 Motorsport seatbelts that I think only came on some M3 LTW's these look amazing! According to Jeff Grey BMW its about 1k for the front pair ex germany.... much want! By the looks of it changing the standard webbing to red is illegal in NZ too Next up is the AC Schnitzer wing mirrors that, I found 1 set on eBay.... $850 USD for the pair + shipping + taxes etc would make them over $1500 by the time they got here! Im guessing nobody happens to know of anywhere that does reps of them? I know you can get M3 reps but the AC Schnitzer ones look so much cooler IMO. What other E36 rare goodies do people know about that are out there?
  18. I managed to do some things! First off is I hardwired my V1 into my Ti No more draining of the battery due to non switched cigarette lighter adapter! Will get some photos and post up a how to guide tomorrow on how I did it all! Also managed to make my headlights a little more french! Tested them out tonight and the high beams being yellow help with fog along with allowing for a lower contrast so its easier on the eyes to make out whats in the shadows more, also I personally think it just looks cool! Also the ever practical Ti came in handy today picking up my new getrag 220 gearbox that will eventually be making its way in, so no more popping out of third gear for me!
  19. My younger brother is wanting to swap in my spare m52b28 into his e30 coupe, so I am currently after an M5x sump, oil pickup and dipstick from an e34. Further south the better! TIA!
  20. Added M-Trim bits to the side of the 328Ti today, alltho broke some clips so will try track some new ones down tomorrow. Also gave her a wash and swapped to clear rear indicators!
  21. Yeah if I was going to run a zf box I would get the correct front half of the driveshaft rather than cut and mix and match. I do know where 1 or 2 are at the moment but the poor student budget won't allow me just yet to buy one
  22. Yeah still running the 220 that is screwed, hopefully will have some more money around Xmas and will do a new clutch plate and box, along with diff/LSD. Plans to do a wide body like the felony form are also possible to run my wide Ac schnitzer rims.
  23. So after a few weeks of sitting on the side of the road she lives again!!! This time around a full M52B28 factory engine has been dropped in running the m52 loom, dme and intake manifold. I am still facing an issue with the battery not charging so will replace the alternator. This one feels about as quick if not quicker than the last engine and defiantly has some pull to it! Here are a few pics of the swap process! Also added some Bilstein Sport front shocks with Eibach springs so hopefully I can go around corners far better! There was one issue when we pulled the engine out and we accidentally snapped the shift mechanism... After managing to get it welded and gusseted up on a Sunday we were able to put the whole lot back together! Learnt that I am running a single mass flywheel and 328 clutch and pressure plate while swapping the clutch and flywheel over. Didnt take a pic of the clutch alignment tool we made but it worked a treat, doing it by eye the first time we couldn't get the box to go in at all, after using the tool it was perfect. We made one out of a socket, extension and some tape and now I wish I had a picture of it! While the engine was out I gave the whole engine bay a good scrub and waterblast! So after all that the engine was able to be slotted into place and bolted up! After plugging it all in and once again missing the same wire we were able to test fire it and get it all fired up! So more to still come in the future for the little Ti!!!! Having all that power back is amazing! Still daily driving my other Ti until I can get a bit of spare time to swap the alternators over and hopefully that solves the charging issues!
  24. Swapped a new engine into the 328ti Finally she lives again! Still need to sort a bad earth issue on it and get a final bubble out of the clutch line. Gearbox is still screwed but should hopefully last until xmas when funds will looks slightly better! So stoked to have it all running again, project post to follow tonight
  25. Begun the task of swapping the engine out of the 328ti tonight. Spent 2 hours working on the car with a mate and managed to get quite a bit done. So far we have: removed front end and radiator replaced front shocks with bilsteins removed DME and unplugged loom ready for engine removal. so since this is all done tomorrow the main task of removing the engine and swapping the box onto the new one and reinstalling begins. Fingers crossed it can be done within a day! Updates and pictures will follow after the weekend within my project thread
