  1. Same as my old E46 - you can fit 6.5" components in there, the woofers will need to be on the shallow side though - looking at old emails looks like I went with JBL 6500C.

I remember tweeters required a little fiddling but got them in nice in the end.

I had an Ali Express OEM style touchscreen running wireless carplay and bypassed the factory amplifier with a 4x100RMS pioneer running the fronts and then bridged to a small sub in boot.

Worked well - solid quality, volume and functionality.

Looking for the pixel tape / ribbon thingy and also a LCD would be good but not necessary. There are a couple of Ebay sellers but technology has advanced sooo far that robots now answer emails.

Could try @BMWRadios on Insta - he's in Estonia and restores and sells RDS radios with bluetooth / preouts etc - he may be open to shipping parts too.

I had a fantastic experience with my custom one for the E30.

  3. Looks like a fabulous car and I'm not surprised its an amazing drive - light(ish) weight, top down, flat 6, mid engined - I also think the 987 exterior / interior was a big leap over the 986.

And yes - Cayman S manual - DO IT

Very is the answer. Last time I raced I was weighed at 1085kg, with me around 90kg, making car just under the tonne. That was with fibreglass bonnet, guards and bumpers. Plastic windows, gutted door shells, etc.

Have pulled lots of wiring out, cut off lots of studs and brackets, drilled lots of holes in anything non-structural. Will be interesting how light I can get, especially in the front for better balance.

As Dan said it’s the four pot S14B20 motor so good weight saving over the M20.

    Whats a stock 325i without driver? 1250kg?

Hey guys - recently picked up an m325i which I’m sure most would be familiar with..

Post the latest auction on trademe I had gotten in touch with the seller to organise a deal and here we are!

Have come from a long line of silvia’s, ae86’s and the like so being my first E30, wanting to get an idea of the best sources for new replacement and used OEM parts, local workshops in Auckland etc etc.

Cheers - and hope to catch you all soon.

Congrats man - she is a beauty for sure - look forward to meeting you and chatting on Saturday with Jeremy (I'm Sam).

Nice thing is almost all the mechanical components of an E30 are avaliable new, and being an M325i, your car already has most of the more desireable 'No longer Avaliable' goodies!

RealOEM is a great source for finding the correct part numbers for your specifc car (need last 7 digits of your vin).

Offshore parts (for quality new OEM at landed prices typically half of BMW NZ):

FCP Euro / Schmeidmann / Ebay for odds and ends

    Local Parts

Euro Italian on the North Shore - reasonable amount of E30 stock at good prices and quick shipping

Speedfactor in Tauranga do shocks / springs / coilovers

    Aftermarket parts

Turner Motorsport / ECS Tuning / Garagistic / Condor Speed Shop / Ireland Engineering / Demontweeks

    Local Workshops:

Jackstands and Youtube or Apex Automotive in Wairau if I'm getting sick of breaking things haha

  6. Swapped my springs out - looking for a slightly more age-appropriate (myself and the car) stance and comfort level.

Replaced the ST Springs (50mm/40mm) with the popular H&R Sport 29664-1 springs (35mm/35mm).

Really happy with them - have gained a very useful 10-15mm height all-round but car still looks great and sporty - ride quality is significantly improved as well (and I didn't feel the ST's were harsh).

Possibly a slightly less performance orientated spring (?) but I already have larger sway bars and sticky tyres for fun stuff anyway.

Nostalgia googles would have to be firmly rose tinted to spent $230K on an E46 when a 996.1 GT3 Clubsport (arguably the most collectable non RS GT3) is cheaper.

https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/13634148 (not a clubsport, but just look at it, and it's 38K cheaper)

Not into 996's but yeah, that's definitely 911 money 😍

Is that one of the pair of CSL's that Southern Speculators had recently or a new one? What's the craic on selling in a day @Sammo?

I could have sworn the Byzanz was up for sale for $22k when Auckland was last in lockdown? I would have bitten their arm off at that price but it closed really quickly and Jacinda hadn't told us how long we needed to stay home and save lives for at that stage.

As long as we're doing "intriguing back stories" is that the Byzanz that spent a couple of weeks on a chassis jig after being rolled a couple of times?

That same CSL was advertised for $229k last Monday (I think) by what appeared to be a private seller but was ‘sold pending payment’ by the following evening.

Presume the dealer snapped it up quick for $200kish and is happy to sit on it a while to find the right buyer.

    Looks like a stunning car!

  9. Good power for a stock M52!

Would hate to know how little mine makes now, although its still loads of fun - hopefully this time next year I'll be able to rebuild and stroke it with a mild cam - keep it very driveable.

Love the Tech 1 wing - have been tempted to put one on mine at times but I will keep the chunky Tech2
