This was listed on trademe at some point. Sat there for ages. Figured they sold it (looks like they just removed it from trademe). That price seems crazy though. The 3.8 litres usually go for more but still...
-
Ok. Didn't know that. Looks like nothing has been done to it since the private listing though. Guess the vendor believes the lighting and photos will help fetch a higher price.

Maybe the E12's that continued after 1981, in SA, with the E28 interior are rare? That E28 was on trademe for a while. Then Sunday drive picked it up and cranked the price without any improvements (maybe they gave it a wash). Classic dealer.

Wow. Good to hear you've come through it. I had a similar experience some years back now. Helmet was probably the only reason I'm around today as well. All the best with the recovery.

Is This Where The E30 Market Is Now..?
deedub replied to E30 325i Rag-Top's topic in TradeMe discussions
Yea same. Looks mint. But 318i/auto - not at 25k. -
I don't know much about CAN bus and ECUs in vehicles. I find it interesting though. It's cool what you are doing with the dissasembly. Interested to see what you eventually come up with for injecting the new function call. For context, I work as a software developer so I'm roughly following your disassembly process. Just haven't done anything with CAN bus etc.

This one just popped up today. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/325i/listing/5151467948 Recognised it from here. https://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/68330-1989-m325i-e30-coupe/ -
Searched around the forum for anything on this converted Alpina B12 5.7 850 CSi. Sold on BAT last year. Couldn't find anything on this forum. The search function on this forum doesn't work well for me. So I just use a search engine (which works well). Still nothing. It's had some history in New Zealand. Eventually imported into the US by the seller and listed on BAT. Beautiful car. Thought maybe it was discussed on here at some point, or someone here knows some more of the history behind it.

I could be missing something. But the last 3 orders I made would have been over the 1k mark if shipping was included. For all of them I used the customs calculator. I think all of them were in the 900 range (purchase price). If you use the calculator on the customs site, you'll see that it calculates GST + duty on the product and GST on the freight. But it waves them all unless you go over 1k on the purchase. 1k is a hard limit though. Like I said maybe I'm missing something or something was done on the vendors side. But all of my recent parts orders would have crossed the 1k mark if shipping was included. And I used the calculator each time to push the orders as close to 1k as possible.

I think the 1k is the purchase price. Shipping is taxed only if purchase is over 1k. Best to give some room. But they have periods where they lock in rates which can help. https://www.customs.govt.nz/business/import/customs-exchange-rates/

For next time you can use this duty calculator: https://www.customs.govt.nz/personal/duty-and-gst/whats-my-duty-estimator/ FCP allow you to split orders as well to stay clear of customs duty.

Nice one. Thanks. I'll look into that.

I should mention that I'm aware I will need to at least prove I am registered to the car. But wondering if there is something else that could be a blocker (like legal ownership - not even sure how that's done in NZ with cars that have had multiple owners).

How does one go about getting a new key for an older BMW? Specifically I have an 1998 E36 with one key. Looking to get a second key. I've seen in other forums that you need to provide your VIN to a BMW dealer and they will order a coded set for the car from Germany. Apparently there is a designated set of coded keys for each car from factory. Is there anything else besides the VIN required? Just wanting to see if anyone has gone through the process here in NZ (before I start making some calls/emails to a dealer here).

Purchased a set of genuine Alpina 16" wheels (rims + tyres) from @darren_mk for my E30. They're on the way to me now. Great communication and a pleasure to deal with 🙏.

Was this on trademe a few months back? Love the 318is. Hope it ends up at a good home.

I've found that Scheidmann can be limited for genuine parts. What NZ dealers are good for genuine? Do you mean BMW dealers? FCP experinece for me has been Ok. May be I've just been lucky so far with Aramex.

Should probably learn how to spell losers (loosers?) if they're gonna call people that.
-
Don't see these come up often (manual). Price seems way too high though. There was a nice Avus blue 540i/6 not long ago with similar ks and way better wheels (with mint interior as well) asking 26k. The seller though... that description alone would make me avoid buying a car from them. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/540/listing/5108609451

Are you thinking of the 19's? Don't think the ones I mentioned were relisted.
-
... and he mentioned the cruise control isn't working. He's not sure why...

Thanks for all the info @Eagle. Called the seller Friday. Nice guy and transparent about everything. Realised this is more in the project territory than I'd like. Lack of history is a big factor for me. Was ready to move forward but not the right car at the right time for me. Still trying to get time on the weekends to finish off some work on my E30... Another BMW has caught my eye for a daily and has full service history for peace of mind. Beautiful car and with more time to work on it I would definitely get it. Gutted, but I can't take on another project right now. Seller is sorting out brakes and something to do with one of the doors for the WOF (can't remember exactly what now). Hopefully someone here gets it.

Having never owned an E39 540i before (or even an E39 at all)... Did a quick search on timing chain (chain/guides/tensioner) replacement and it sounds pretty full on. What are the main signs that the timing chain needs replacing? Has anyone here done the replacement on a M62 before? (I'm assuming there would be a little more involved with the TU version).

That's on to it. Hadn't thought of splitting wheels to get around the duty charges. I'll keep that in mind for future orders. I've got a genuine set lined up to purchase soon from a forum member who reached out to me after seeing this thread. Was close to getting the reps staggered like yours.
