Captain practical? is he a close relation of Captain slow?
-
ha!yeah can't say i've tried it, or am willing to.
-
cheers glenn. yeah I'm sure its just water, I did taste it, it was clear. Off the common driveway at the inlaws. yum.
-
So on my summer drive, I noticed a small amount of water that seems to be orginating from the middle of the car. Since it was hot the car's just had a major service and it's never really been an issue before I assumed it would be condensation or water from the AC, i've seen other BM's do this too. However parking the car away there was more water on the road than I would have expected. is this normal? sorry I should specify. Yes AC was running hard. The amount of water made a small wet patch approximately the size of a small envelope. from sitting for only a few minutes, also left a trail as I drove into the garage. Coolant level normal. Car never get's hot. Never seen it before this summer break but haven't had the car AC running this hard before.

Just missed u mate! Was there for lunch. BTW stay the hell away from whanga bar ...........worst food ever!!Who was the black e36 coupe down main rd at the mount with a bimmersport sticker on the rear passenger window?
-
Racetech also have a large selection of hawk pads if u wanted to avoid the customs charges.

Depends on how far away they are and how good your detector is.If they turn on as they see you then no detector will help u there. If the are switching on and off then hopefully a good detector will pickup the pulses off other cars & surrounding topography and warn u. If they drive down the road with it contstantly on a good detector should pick it up easily and give u plenty of warning. Laser is a different kettle of fish as its very directional, hence people use of jammers
-
They aren't illegal to sell, they are illegal to use as they distrupt police equipment by broadcasting. Passive equipment only are legal. Just like it's illegal to broadcast on police radio frequencies or utilise the Ka band.
-
If they use the lazer on you and it doesn't work they then have reasonable doubt you r using one. Smart cops would look for the broadcast units in the bumper somewhere then try to get u to admit it. The trick here would be to tell them that's a hidden radar detector system and stick to your story. This is why most jammers warn and turn off after 5 sec to give u time to brake but also not get the cop too suspicious. I believe the fine for broadcasting on police frequencies around $1500!!

Yes I'm the same. V1 X band and K band turned off. I just keep an eye out for the new camera vans. At least I know when my V1 makes a noise it means business. Trust in thine device is important which is why I'm sticking with my tried and true V1. If I had a new car which I intended to keep, and cash to burn, I'd go a stealth install of the bell x65 sti with laser jammers front and rear. However cost and the ability to move my radar between cars keeps me happy with the V1. Keep in mind people, whilst radar detectors (passive) are still legal in this country jammers (active) are not and likely to cost u a pretty penny if u get caught using one. Anyone have any updated info on the proposed law changes around the legality of radar detectors?

I have a V1 and swear by it. Only tickets I have had in the last two years have been driving the missus's car which doesn't have one. My mate runs the top of the line bell v65 and it's very compatible from what I have seen. Pretty much anything else i have seen or used pails in comparison. Previous radars I have owned were undien & cobra units. It wouldn't be far off to state the V1's detect twice the distance than cheaper units, this makes all the difference, in 5 years of ownership it's given a false positive twice. Basically if it makes a noise u hit the anchors. We usually play spot the cop when the radar chirps it amazing sometimes how far we drive until we actually sight him. I also find it helpful with the V1's directional arrows and multiple target tracking. And ability to lock out frequencies. My unit has paid for itself multiple times over. I wouldn't drive on the open road without it.

Horray!! I've finally got spotted!!yup. Was heading north on holiday.

2hours 15 minutes Whakapapa (bottom of the bruce rd) to Wellington (Karori). About 17 years ago in the we small hours. Hardly a car on the road. Wouldn't dream of it these days. didn't Kenny Smith run the "unoffical" wtgn > auck time in his 930 back in the early 90's? in some crazy time.

No I didn't install the system I had a shop do whilst completing other work. So if I run the permanent power to the battery instead of where it's running now...(I'm going to assume the nearest 12v) I should be sweet until such time as the battery dies or is disconnected. Wiring diagram shows both 12v ACC & permanent. Cheers!

I'm wondering if anyone has a set of these that could help? I've got myself a set of these fandangled Defi guages and the controll unit 2. http://www.defi-shop.com/product/bf/bf_top.html I can correct the peak warning however whenever I turn the car power off (via battery kill switch) they return to the old values. The manual states after setting leave them to return to monitor mode and the will save the new settings. This works until I kill the power. Anyone have a set of these ? is there something I am missing? Do they always require constant 12v to remember the setting?

Any club will do I personnally have experience with HCCC and hutt valley, they all have a mish - mash of car's and types. The club affiliation is really just to give you the ability to get your clubsport (racers) licence and contacts in your area. You can get into the club activities as much or as little as you like.

I wont be able to make the 19th due to other commitments, but no doubt will be heading up for some events late Jan / Feb if I don't do Port road. Always happy to help get another competitor on the track Andy, my car # is 898 so come introduce yourself if you see me around.

I'd dip you toes in first see how you go. Get yourself a car club membership (you can find a list on www.motorsport.org.nz) and clubsport licence - forms on same site. I'd recommend The Toolshed road and track series as a starter. Manfield racetrack, no cage requirements. Forms here but you can just rock up on the day no problems, they even had spare helmets/overalls at the last event! http://www.motorsportmanawatu.org.nz/ dec 19th is the next (last) round for the series. It's around $100 for the day and you will get plenty of running for your $$. All you need to do is sort the brakes, new fluid & track spec pads in the front at least, bolt in a fire extingisher. Give the car a once over & find yourself a helmet & some cotton overalls. Road tyres are fine just remember to warm them up & cool down the brakes after. HAVE FUN !! If you like it then you can get more serious.....best idea is to try to learn as much as possible whilst you are there. See who's experienced and tail them around the track to get the best lines. See if you can score a ride with someone else you will learn ALOT faster where you should be.
