I don't think BMW or Audi invented the gap-less rear bumper. I'm sure it was done well before. 2001 FIAT Stilo, for example: And even earlier, the much- maligned Mazda MS8!

I think it's become so common to have a massive grille, that it's become accepted. Motoring writers complained about the new VW Scirocco having a much smaller grille than the concept, and it being somehow worse for it. Personally, I prefer the less toothy production look! Concept: Production:

Yea, will probably have three new townhouses on the site by the end of the year! Agreed on the photos, Open2View do a grand job... like I say, it's a huuuuge improvement on the state it was in a few months ago. I think the iron roof above the dining area gave up about twenty years ago... must have been so cold being inside, no floor!

There's a wreck of a house currently for sale in a nice central Wellington street, near a place my family own. A man had built this place new, and so the story goes, was jilted by his fiancee, went slightly mad and let the house go to ruin... He died earlier this year, and Public Trust have spent the last few months tidying the place up best they can... I had a look around before it was tidied up, and it was definitely 'squalid', really unpleasant. Here's the estate agency link... imagine it with fifty-plus years of accumulated detritus- he never threw anything away. The garage and clothesline were almost completely covered by vines and bushes. *Doer- Upper* It looks tidy, if old, in the earlier photos in the sequence... but that dining room floor seems to have gotten away on him!

Untrue and ignorant- we also make P. Gotta pay for new chromies somehow! -
Friday Afternoon French Lesson
ThreeOneEight replied to ThreeOneEight's topic in Other European Cars
Thanks for all the comments- it's one of those cars that gets more than it's fair share of stares! Will see what he's up to next Friday night- I think he works then, though(got to pay for the inevitable auto electrician bills somehow!). Otherwise I'm sure he'd be happy to bring it along for entertainment! It's not the fastest out there- it's a 1.6 XU carb engine with around eighty-five horsepower. But the ride quality is amazing and it's much more spacious than my E30, yet is shorter (and with the suspension down, lower!). Very cool car, though- so tidy and ultra low kms, and high spec, I'm almost a little jealous- it only cost him $900! -
This is "Gerard Leopardieu" (named after the seat-covers), my brother's first car. A sexy little hydropneumatic wonder, looking fetching in French Revolution Red. As some will know, his front plate was stolen, so we had to replace it with a black Europlate- thanks GermanPlates.com! The original plate was, weirdly, handed in... so we have both now... Everybody holds a soft spot for the left-field instrument cluster design. It takes a while to learn! Bask in the unreliable quirkiness!

I had an ADHD friend at school who went mental whenever anyone gave him lollies with food colouring in them. After he grabbed my steering wheel once while I was driving, I was put off lollies for life. Frozen raspberries have got to be the best lolly ever!

I thought that the website was down and it was a pun to do with when fax machines get jammed...

That's not a fact, that's hearsay! Ban!

I'm getting a Barberarot D3 Touring with manual transmission, gold Alpina stripes, beige leather, wood trim, 19 inch Dynamic wheels, and a panoramic glass roof. It will have dubious resale value.

There's a Honda S800 which runs a Hayabusa engine too- weighs around 550kg and has a weird combo of retro looks and superbike noise. I want it!
-
Actually, second heaviest is the E30 M3 Cabriolet, at 1299kg! Aren't we just huge nerds today!
-
Re: Weight My owner's manual that came with my car new lists a FL 318i 4 door with manual transmission, as having an unladen weight (that is, ready to drive, with a full tank, but no passengers or special equipment (eg factory options like electric windows and (probably?) power steering)) at 1110kg. If you still have your owner's manual from your pre FL car, check the back, there should be a list of weights and dimensions. Autocar UK contemporary road tests list a 1986 BMW 318i four door manual saloon as weighing 1070kg, which is 'as tested', with a full tank of fuel. Apparently an M10 weighs 83kg, and an M40 weighs 81kg. Of course, we could always take your car and my car to a weighbridge!

Oh yea, it's very real! Search them, Baur made quite a few!
-
Not completely contempt worthy... but you'd have to be brave to own one! The E36 Baur Cabrio Saloon. Oh my.
-
Yea, it might seem ok now, but if you're planning to keep your car a while, original plates tend to add some value-especially if the car is NZ new. I would say an E30 with its first registration number intact is worth $500 or so more than one that has been 'defaced'. Some might disagree. But I'd think my car less special if it didn't still wear PD2479.

E30 facelift and a E30 pre facelift models
ThreeOneEight replied to Edurty's topic in General Discussion
Houndstooth fabric on pre FL seats, Velour on facelift. That's if there's no leather. Early pre FL's had a digital clock, but after about 1986, analogue replaced it. And a pre FL 318i wore an M10 engine, whereas the FL has an M40. The windscreen surrounds on a pre FL are anodised or chrome and black finish, where the FL is black only. (I think... getting really anorak-ish here!) There's heaps of little things, really! Generally, the FL appears better rustproofed, too. Though this might be a point of contention. -
It looks so mean... I wouldn't like to be hit by that pointy front end if I was crossing the road!
-
Have reported the plate stolen. But definitely not interested in a new registration number, he is resolved to keeping the original black plate style and registration number. I doubt many classic Citroens are used in crime so any use of the stolen plate should be quickly ruled out as having been my brother!
-
Will VTNZ print an existing plate though?
-
Looks like we're going with a replica silver on black europlate from autoplates. They only stole the front plate, so the rear is still original- and the rear is what you'd be most likely to be pulled over on. Will just cut the front one down to match the width of a NZ plate and put it in a normal plate surround. A bit sad they can't use the much more attractive pre 2006 NZ font though. He's decided that illegal (we prefer the term non-official) is better than ugly!
-
My younger brother had one of the original black number plates stolen off his Citroen today, outside his high school. Does anybody know where he can have a replica made to replace this? Preferably to match the original. He is adamant that he does not want new white plates, for aesthetic and historical reasons. Any help is appreciated!

Haha yes I'm taking the piss. Full respray? I love SE spec two door saloons!
