westy 614 Report post Posted July 18, 2009 (edited) Just a FYI. That box that was under the dash/gloove box with 'GM5' on it is the eletric windows and central locking relays / other random sh*t. Thats this thing right? The GM5/GM V is the white box. Controls Windscreen washing, central locking, keyless entry, electric windows, car & key memory, interior lighting, alarm and cut off sleep mode. And this is the power distribution? Behind the fuse block. Question... the heater is controlled by the module behind the heater switch panel? How much is removing the heater going to affect other things?? westy 614 Report post Posted July 18, 2009 Oh, and Glenn, this is the diagnostic port. It was in the engine bay, there wasn't anything in the drivers footwell. Is this unusual?
*Glenn* 854 Report post Posted July 18, 2009 Oh, and Glenn, this is the diagnostic port. It was in the engine bay, there wasn't anything in the drivers footwell. Is this unusual? Some E46 have the round plug in the engine bay, like yours (earlier models) the rest have OB11 above the throttle pedal.. and a very few have both... just to confuse you, with split readout functions
hybrid 1043 Report post Posted July 18, 2009 Thats this thing right? The GM5/GM V is the white box.Yup thats itQuestion... the heater is controlled by the module behind the heater switch panel? How much is removing the heater going to affect other things?? By heater you mean the big ass box in behind the stereo ? I would think you would only trigger a few non critical fault codes which shouldn't throw lights up on the dash... We can try un-plugging mine out and seeing what codes get thrown up in Carsoft. Should give you and idea.
westy 614 Report post Posted July 18, 2009 Thanks guys. This stuff seems really complicated on the surface but once you find out more about it, it becomes quite straight forward. Josh, it'll be interesting to find out what happens when the heater is disconnected and yeah, that big ass box in behind the stereo is the bit that wont yet fit. greenday-rulz21 6 Report post Posted August 7, 2009 Such a sweet set up man. Pretty much my favourite project going at the moment. Absolutely love how you put the E46 instrument cluster in the E30 housing. Fantastic. Looks asthough it came out of the factory. Can't wait to see this in the flesh someday.
