project rebuild M88 engine, bored ,stroked

Recommended Posts

quick update

its done!!!!

taken a while to sort it out . but finally i can drive the car propely

went to gavin's (hi-velocity) today.

gavin did his magic , remapped the ecu with the new millar maf unit fitted.

have had to do a bit of a overhaul on the fuel system

2 new fuel pumps, new filter , proper fuel reg fitted , got rid of the fuel dampers in the fuel lines near the engine.

had all the injectors cleaned , descaled etc so all 100%.

fitted a metal mesh just before the MAF unit to straighten out the air.

goes really well now , sounds pretty neat.

power goes flat at the top but we think maybe the exhaust is strangling it a bit.

maybe in the future i might look into sorting that out.

make about the same power as my 4.4L v8 but not quite the torque.

enjoy the video.

couple of videos from the bmw club track day in taupo in may

first time in a while for my car on the track with all the mods and tunning done etc

was handy being able to rev to 7000rpm , also decent torque out of the corners

preformed quite well.

also marty was there with his turbo e28 ,

but my camera battery went flat so missed filming him from behind

was spitting flames at me etc

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5_xH5xWvPw...;feature=relmfu

another video from my freinds smart phone

in HD and turn up the volume

e30 m3 ,e30 325is ,2002 , turbo e28 , e28 m5 etc

a bit of a update to long project etc . just fitted some headers to the e28 , they are modified e34 M5 headers ,have been off and on a few times to get the correct shape etc to fit around the steering box etc....

not a lot of space in a e28 , subframe has to be lowered , engine lifted etc to get them in there and there are about 3-4 nuts that are really hard to get to , having to use small spanners etc , modified spanners.

also a complete new exhaust system made. larger pipe than the previous sports system that was designed for a m30 engine not a M88 engine .

sounds a bit different now :)

looking forward to the next track day at puke in a week etc..

Will you do another dyno run?

took the car in for a dyno run today to see what its health is like after the new headers and exhaust system.

has made good improvements through the rev range from abnout 3000rpm up etc

running a bit lean though and there is some pinging , so back in for a remap :(

so here's a before and after dyno run results

car pulls really well , need to sort some bigger ,wider rubber in the rear now

small update ,

had the car with gavin at hi velocity

had the ecu remapped to suit the new headers and exhaust

sorted out the dips in the midrange , fueling and timming sorted etc

runs a bit smoother now , pulls strong from 3k rpm all the way to 7k rpm now

doesn't flatten out like it used to at about 6000rpm etc

peak torque around 4500rpm to 5500rpm

peak kw around 204rwkw , but saw 211rwkw but that is maybe not refigured etc ??

pretty happy with the result

std m30 535i engine make around 110-120rwkw std m88 engine around 150-160rwkw

so not bad improvement over stock.

making similer power to a well set up e36 or e46 3.2L M3 engine

but at about 6000rpm not 7000rpm

just need to sort some better rubber now :S

Never thought I'd se the day where you let that one go mate :(

Something with an S62 flavour would be the only real successor I can think of, maybe an M5 wagon?

been thinkin about that myself.I think you had a sweet setup there good compromise weight to power.Depends what you want i suppose,Everything has a compromise element.

For myself i think a nice manual 635 would do the trick, perhaps with,as you have suggested before a slightly hot rodded M30

"all TVRs should be registered as pre-production prototypes".

Yes, something with a BMW V8 I reckon.
