Michael. 2313 Report post Posted April 18, 2016 I did a half cage in my e36. Trouble is it stiffens the rear and makes the front feel extra floppy, need to run bars from the rear down the side of the seats to the forward footwell at least.
Cab 148 Report post Posted April 19, 2016 Ok thanks I'll keep that in mind. Trouble shooting time.. So I've fitted the wheels up and taken it for a test run and after less than 1km driving the wheel bolts become loose.. I stopped and retightened and once again they became loose very quickly. Has anyone come across this before? I'm running 20mm spacers with extended bolts (I used these on my bbs rx no problem). Also have hub centric rings on the spacers. Bizarre. MLM 57 Report post Posted April 19, 2016 Paint on the conical bolt face can cause the nuts to come loose, clean off the paint and it should improve. Also check the wheel to hub face is clean. Wheels look great btw
M3AN 4016 Report post Posted April 19, 2016 ^ that and also... Bolts at 80Nm? Sorry, had to ask. Try without spacers also to see if you can repeat the experience.
qube 3570 Report post Posted April 19, 2016 fwiw ive never experienced anything like that when it was on my car so hopefully you can sort it out. be careful too!
KwS 2421 Report post Posted April 19, 2016 do the wheels use the same mounting style lug bolts (cone seat) as the bolts youre using?
Cab 148 Report post Posted April 19, 2016 After I quick google search I think MLM is right with the paint coming off on to the wheel bolts causing them to loosen. I searched loose wheel bolts and it came up straight away. I'll take another look tomorrow and see if the theory is correct. In the mean time if somebody thinks it could be something else then let me know! Thanks for the input
Cab 148 Report post Posted April 19, 2016 (edited) Took a bolt off this morning before work to test the theory and am 95% sure the paint was causing the loose bolts. The bolt had a thin layer around the cone which flaked off like sun burnt skin. Will very lightly sand down the cone areas and wheel inners and it should solve the issue. Looks good though Edited April 19, 2016 by Cab
Rubix 434 Report post Posted April 19, 2016 You going to be cutting into the rear bumper to run it with the spoiler, or going to run no bumper?
Cab 148 Report post Posted April 19, 2016 (edited) You going to be cutting into the rear bumper to run it with the spoiler, or going to run no bumper? No bumper. Will be respraying and keeping it clean to avoid "sharp objects that can harm pedestrians", and I don't think the wing will fall into that category as its technically the same as a bike rack setup etc. Interesting to see what the law thinks. Cross that bridge when I get to it. This but clean: Edited April 19, 2016 by Cab

Olaf 3309 Report post Posted April 20, 2016 brilliant on the track, cool piece of kit. can't say I'd see the suitability on the street - should a pedestrian go over your roof, they'd end up julienned.

Absolutely no suitability on the street but if I saw one driving down the street I'd be like holy f*ck!
