Yeah, interesting eh. The tech reckons the torque converter hasn’t been rebuilt either due to the fact it hasn’t been painted?

Yeah they never painted them there, they just stamped it. Found this out when I started questioning them on whether had actually been touched after 2 "rebuilds" had failed, so he showed me stamps and the single weld.

Hutt Automatics have a huge reputation down here, you can be sure it'll be done right.

Ah ok that’s good to know. Probably doesn’t need to be done then..

Car is back on the road. Another receipt for the folder...

Looking at this photo I'm guessing that left broken mount is what they said they needed to weld up.

Went home via VTNZ for a WOF. Got pulled up on the LED halo lights and the headlight adjusters need to be replaced, but it was a pass. I see the notes say the brake hoses need doing soon too.

So nice to have remote locking and stereo controls on the steering wheel again.

Fingers crossed this drum lasts longer than 40,000 km.

Geez we are really reamed sideways for parts (well many parts, some exceptions) in this country....

2 OE transmission mounts from offshore USD12, plus shipping as part of an order sums up to about a third....

But great to see the 540 rides again...

I got some knockoff trim (not sure what you call this piece?) off ebay yonks ago but never got around to fitting it. Spray painted it black and glued the rubber piece on (see how long that lasts) and installed. The rubber piece doesn't line up perfectly with the bumper but I prefer it to having the smashed piece of undertray.

I've just ordered a pair of these myself, from eBay in europe. one of mine is smashed and the other doesn't line up and 80% of the hardware is missing so lots of rattles.

New hardware and undertray "wings" on the way....

Cool, if I were to do this again I would line up the  rubber piece on the car first, rather than referencing the original in the garage.

Congrats!  I'm sure it will last longer than 40k, it's been done by the trans masters.

1000km since the transmission work. Had a very aggressive jolt when shifting from 3rd down to 2nd for a while but that seems to have chilled out now. This morning out enjoying the current Wellington spring winds.

224,000 km

Weird clicking in the cabin has been solved. Turned out it was the seatbelt receiver's old plastic guides being noisy...took abit of detective work to figure out where it was coming from, lubed it up with some plastic friendly grease and it's nice and quiet now.

Replaced drivers side door seal, it was on the first list of things to do.....finally got it done.

man that feels good.

I got a new lens, 105mm Macro......took it out for a little test run tonight.

I also put the sub back in the boot. It really rounds out the sound nicely...the wiggles never sounded so good ?

Should probably vacuum the boot sometime too..

Oil and Filter change

Penrite 5W-40 and BMW filter (had to order from Auckland...guess my car IS old)

Been chasing a coolant leak which turned out was  the elbow that connects the expansion tank to the radiator. Ended up having to silicon the new elbow in as it was still leaking despite the new part ? anyway, all is fixed and no more coolant low light.

49447877288_4fe3210d27_b.jpg49448352936_ae04f3bd72_b.jpg

That second O-ring at the bottom of the new elbow turns out is a spare as there's no way it stays there when pushing it in.

Since that was a $3 part and BMW couldn't find it in their system I got it from FCP and got a new fan shroud while I was at it to make the shipping worth it.

Old:

New:

49448578322_6d13ea4b1f_b.jpg

Since I bought the car the toolkit screw had been partially snapped off meaning the tool kit would randomly fall down, recently this started being a full time thing and everytime you opened the boot there would be a tool kit hanging down...pretty annoying when you are trying to wrangle a baby buggy in and out. I went out to pick apart and got a new one...albeit it's not black it  functions as it needs to.

another $2 well spent.

I know Mercedes dealers use that same Behr radiator nipple and they actual list it unlike BMW. I was got one many years ago for my E38 for approx $20.

Got around to fixing the passenger side 'pork chop' this weekend. Had a much better line up with the rubber piece on this side.
