eliongater 718 Report post Posted September 28, 2017 (edited) "A true enthusiast, the M1 followed him during his incredible career that brought him and the M1 to almost every continent. South Africa, New Zealand, Mexico, Arizona and eventually Miami." We're clearly the best though as it still has our sticker Edited September 28, 2017 by eliongater

gjm 3258 Report post Posted September 29, 2017 Just now, allan said: Learn something new every day New Zealand a continent https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M1 At the top of that page: "Not to be confused with BMW 1 Series M Coupe." Certainly not a mistake I was going to be making...

For those considering this, we're blessed in NZ; one can obtain the all-important sticker by simply joining BMW Car Club NZ; it's less than 10% of the cost of the airfare to Florida to view this M1, let alone buy it! 'muricans, however, would need to buy the M1. Hmmm, now we consider which is 'cheaper'; buying residency/citizenship in Godzone, or buying an M1 that has been domiciled here...

ssbmw 220 Report post Posted October 8, 2017 Yes this car was at the BMW festival at Hampton downs circa 4-5 years ago. Evidently it had been lying dormant in storage for many years in NZ. From what I was told, the family who owned it were from overseas, however spent some time in NZ. They elected to get it up and running prior to the festival to present it- with a view to prepare it for sale on the international market. I just remember the sound it made - phenomenal. A lot more aggro sounding than the engine note of a M88/3 shared by the M635csi and E28 M5 which was in essence the same power plant. Such a special car.
