7 hours. How much of that was spent towing the Alfa? 🤣

It’s a pretty sweet 3.0 V6 transaxle - love Alfas but yeah, they are a little scarier than Bimmers!

He has a 2 litre 105 in restoration as well - one of my all time favourite cars.

If I had a big shed (and money!), I'd have one too...

I have 2 VW's and a Land Rover, so who am I to take the piss, anyway??? 😁

Been a little while since I updated.

Replaced injectors and my coolant temp sensor (one that tells the ECU roughly how cold it is) which seems to have really improved the cars temperament when cold (would always idle fine but would often be a little hesitant under load like in old cold carbureted car).

Also replaced my blower motor resistor but think I’ll need to replace blower motor too as it was stiff as - lubed it up but imagine it will seize itself again before too long.

Running extremely well for the BMW club run this Sunday - let’s hope it does not need a tow this time around!

Car has been going great guns through the miserable winter months but with the nice change in weather got out on a few rural backroads with @Cement and @elias on Saturday - Dave and I having to navigate a pretty decent swathe of semi' precarious gravel roads, so here is a rare dirty picture of the old girl!

Next project is a cluster refurb and tart up and then a refurbished steering rack before the next WOF.

From there will just be dirivng the wheels off it and saving up for some rust repair and full respray next winter.

Finally fixed my odometer gears and gave the cluster a mini tart up while I was at it with a polished cover and an Mtechnic tachometer gauge face.

Kept it subtle and resisted the urge to paint the needles red 😂

Tried matte black cluster rings (2nd pic) but decided against them.

Also had some new SI board batteries and capacitors but it all looked good and my soldering isn’t great so decided to not mess with it unnecessarily.

Also troubleshooting a pesky ABS light, right before WOF time… does not appear to be sensors and the relays ‘look’ as good as new 🤔

After getting a new wheel bearing and sorting the outstanding thermostat bits, have just been enjoying driving the car lately in the great weather and a fantastic run of big Auckland meets.

Still saving my pennies for rust and respray over winter but still looking good and singing sweetly in the meantime.

Stretched the legs earlier this morning and gave her a fair bit of jandal over a solid 4-5 hours seat time down to Karioitahi beach then up the Āwhitu peninsula - such a stunning rural / coastal setting and the roads are sufficiently twisty and deserted too.

Got some good pics with the E46 up here 3 years ago and essentially recreated half of them with the E30 😂

Great way to start another perfect summers day, off to the beach now and then time to clean the car again for a meet tomorrow.

Every time I see photos of your car I start second guessing my decision to go with the E46!

Been a while since my last confession!

Car failed a WOF on its clapped steering rack (play / leaking / torn boots) 3 weeks ago - hummed and hah'd about doing the purple tag swap but cert / bump-steer test anxiety and being time-poor and WOF'less currently, decided against it.

Old rack was beyond a rebuild (shaft stuffed) so went with a remanufactured E30 rack from LPSR in Perth. They do new / remanufactured and used tested BMW racks of all types. Really responsive outfit and arrived in a week.

Got car back today and am stoked - was a little worried I was dropping a bunch of coin for a WOF sticker and no driving improvement - it feels so much better though - tighter / smoother and even a little weightier.

We also sold our little house in the burbs and bought an apartment in Freemans Bay and will be moving next week.

So while the E30 will be gaining a secure covered carpark, I will be losing the ability to meaningfully DIY on it - no drama's TBH as car is well sorted now and I've never had any talent for wrenching.

While I'll be doing amore walking and a little less driving, I'm looking forward to hooning around a new neighbourhood.

I used to live on Franklin Rd.  Those trees are a bitch this time of year as they drop all their leaves.  You're right about one thing though - walking from that suburb is the norm.  Hope you have a trickle charger for the car.

Still planning on getting plenty of regular use - especially as it may soon become our 'practical' car when the wife swaps her F31 for an ND MX5 🤣
