She's my old car- I owned her from 2000 -2002. It was my dream car since I first saw a 635csi in 1982. I know a lot about this car - it was imported by a lady called Helen Clark (not the one we know of) from Hamilton in the mid-90's. It's had a lot of money spent on it. I only drove it about 8-9000 k's in 2 years but it was my pride and enjoy until I had an opportunity to buy a M635csi which proved to be a totally different car! Well done - I think you are the third owner since my ownership. PM me if you want to know further about the car. It is one of about 6 Highline's in NZ but the only one in that hue. Enjoy it- she is a special car!

I am going through the exact same dilemma and has this discussion just this afternoon with Ross @ BM workshop in Botany. I have a facelift 03 530i and LOVE IT! But have been considering a 540i M for a while now as I really want a V8. I have not had a situation yet where the 530i has not had enough power and it's incredibly nice to drive. From what I understand the 540i should Only be an option of you simply want a V8 otherwise all things considered the 530 M is the way to go. Btw, my parents had a 528i new in 07 and the difference is HUGE between 528 and 530i. The Vanos on the 530 is impressive especially once you give yourself some time to understand how to use it. You can't just plant your boot and expect it to react. But that's why they are such a fun car to drive!! If you want to try a 530i. Give me a yell. I am more than happy to take you for a spin. I'm in Auck btw.

The benefits BMW drivers enjoy arent all cancelled out by the type or size of the engine. The 120d has excellent balance steering and brakes.Just like most BMWs (relative to their peers)

Yeah, mine had gone brittle and shrunk and was causing a vacuum leak, it was cheaper to buy the entire assembly than it was to buy just the gasket. Strange BMW part pricing.

Oh i dont know about that, I think there is a place for SMGs but there is also a place for cars with a manual clutch, all depends on your driving style, and what your personal preference is. My last three cars were Auto's so I wanted to go completely the other way and get a "manual" car with a clutch pedal.

That's my beast. Was at hamptons downs yesterday. What a fun car to have. Thrash it, then drive it home. Very reliable and a lot of fun. Hopefully somebody will enjoy it this summer. Cheers Nigel Aston

V8's sound nice and have a nice bit of kick to them, personally I think you need to own a V8 at least once in your life and with the way fuel prices are going now is as good a time as ever. I miss my V8 beemer once in a while, mostly on the motorway. 530i is a nice car though, will be more economical and has better steering. Bar the small capacity diesel's none of the E39's are very economical by modern standards so its much of a muchness. That does not make much sense to me, I would think the lighter car with the smaller engine would be more economical when cruising seeing they have the same rolling resistance. When you are at a certain speed you don't need a lot of power to maintain it.

No - no, I see these as a great thing, & they need better marketing - think of it as contraception for retards.........if they then take themselves out the evolutional breeding chain won't get further diluted.........

I would be patient my friend, there are a few Estoril Blue Evo M3's out there, just hold out. Don't settle for something you have to convince yourself that's what you want, personally, get the car you really want

16" regardless of whether you're going for stance or not. You can pull off 17's, in my opinion, only if you have heaps of dish to make them look smaller and you're on rubber band tyres. The best setup for an e30 if you want it flush with a little bit of poke would be 16x8 +10 up front (if you have 16x9 up front and an offset higher than +10 you'll hit the strut and need spacers), 16x9 +10 in the rear. 195/50/16 tyres all round. I'm a veteran on this topic.
