4 pointsRight... New project, new thread. So I've picked up a 1991 E31 850i with 83K miles (approx. 134K kms) on the clock. Overall it's in above average condition. It was originally Brilliant Red but the PO had it resprayed Sapphire Black. It sits on 18" staggered M-pars. This is it on the day of purchase: I've got a lot of plans for this car which I'll try and summarise below but the ultimate goal is to completely restore it (including the original colour), upgrade to Msport body kit and convert to S62B50 with manual trans. Short term (0-6 months): Replace the foul 80s tips and overhaul the exhaust system (replacing with RS4 mufflers and resonator, high flow cats and M3 tips) Lower it by 2-3cms at the front and 1-2 at the rear Fit the correct size rear tyres (PO scrimped for sale and put a pair of Champiro 235/35/18s on there instead of 265/40s) Wheel alignment Any required maintenance (suspension, trans service, etc) Remove oversized sub and aftermarket head unit and replace with OE period head unit (and possibly wire in media link for iPod or similar Design and fabricate some cup holders for the centre console tray (essential for weekend driving - gotta have somewhere to put my glass of bubbles while cruising!) Repair headlining (it's not too bad, just a couple of loose bits so hopefully doesn't require replacing) Replace dead console bulbs (so I can actually see the buttons at night) Replace any broken/missing trim, emblems, etc Mid term (6 months - 2 years): Source genuine M-sport front bumper spoiler, rear diffuser and wing mirrors, fit and paint Either retrim leather in Lotus white or source original seat skins and door card leather for resto project (desired interior pic below) Steering wheel retrim Tints - not too dark this time, don't want it to look like an RX7 Dinan gearbox chip Sort a/c prior to summer Refurbish wheels (they're in pretty good shape, just some minor kerbing) Long term (2 years+) S62 and manual conversion Full repaint (back to original colour, see pic below) Target interior: Target exterior: Target gear box: Target power plant:

2 pointsPicked up a supersprint race exhaust last night. Have only installed the muffler at the moment and will wait to put on the mid section when my mates hoist is installed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

2 pointsCheck out this pond weed. Here is me and a X6m trying to stay the f**k out of dodge down the end of the car park and look what rolls in... weekend warrior battle scars and all. Thinking about building a proximity camera that works of shock detection. Would be a hit.

1 pointMy new weekender and project. A pretty good starting point... Far better than I hoped for on my modest budget but I got lucky with a vendor desperate to sell before moving overseas. First thing that has to go are those ugly ass 80s exhaust tips, then a few cosmetics (msport bumpers, missing wheel cap, kerbing, etc) and some maintenance... Will start a project log soon. EDIT: Forgot to mention... For some bizarre reason it also has a towbar fitting. F*ck knows why you'd put a tow bar on one of these but someone did... And it I don't plan to keep it.

1 pointHey Everyone... Thought I would start a thread for my newly acquired E46 M3. Back in 2010 I sold my beloved E46 which looked very similar to this. It was tastefully modified with coilovers, Work wheels and various carbon bits. I have come full circle after owning an E90 M3, RS4 and R32. While these cars were a joy to drive, nothing offered the same driving feel to the E46. While it may not be the fastest car, it has a 'special' factor to it and the worldwide E46 community is fantastic. Forgive the initial iPhone picture. I will do a proper shoot soon. Lots of goodies on the way from the states! Won't look like this for much longer. So far I have done the following: - LED Angel Eyes - Blackout Grill - ZHP Gearknob with Alcantara Shift Boot - AVIN-Avant 2 Head Unit - Comprehensive review to come

1 pointHello Ladies and Gentlemen. I'm just posting out of interest, my 318Ti with M50 engine and Manual conversion. My passion has gone from my little bastard-child project car that I spent many hours obsessing over, ultimately ending in what I have today. My plans were originally to take the M50 + turbo route, but plans have changed, and I'll be looking at purchasing another car by the end of the year. I completed the conversion November last year, used the car basically every day to head around town, into the city, and took it for a couple of drives to Masterton and Palmerston North from Welly. The engine never skipped a beat, and the manual box and clutch seem sound, it doesn't seem to burn oil and doesn't use water . I purchased the engine and gearbox out of a wrecked 325iS from Auckland. The engine was a bit rough and worse for wear (head gasket was fine, had just not been looked after), so I decided to take it all apart, give it some new gaskets, clean everything up, and put her back together. Now, it was my first time dismantling an engine, so it's definitely not perfect, but I think I did a pretty good job considering The GOOD: -Warrant and Reg until the end of the year (Nov reg, Dec WOF) (although hasn't got a cert. If you want to get one, everything was OEM so shouldn't be too hard with some driveshaft hoops) -Brand new front brake pads -Bosch Ellipsoid headlights (so much better than the horrible ones previous) - also have changed to clear indicators. - replaced the horrible steering wheel with an Mtec wheel + airbag - 17 inch wheels, a wee bit of curbing, brand new tyres all round. - full black leather interior (a wee bit of cracking, as to be expected, but looks nice after a clean.) - relatively clean carpets, etc - heated seats (driver side doesn't work amazingly, but sit in the passenger seat and you feel like you've peed your pants!) - it has an armrest centre console - oh yeah, it has an M50 engine, and a manual box -3.45 e30 Diff w/318Ti output flanges. Drips a wee bit, but has new oil in it and seems to be fine (purchased off a Bimmersport member) (it was almost un-drivable with the 4.44 auto diff ) The not so GOOD: -no aircon (removed entirely) -It isn't the tidiest from the exterior, a few bumps and scratches on the passenger side (pre my ownership) and a bit of a scratched rear bumper (due to some idiot in a Silvia not knowing how to stop at a pedestrian crossing, and me being too nice), and a hole in the front bumper from my partner's sister inserting her tow bar into it (not too massive), but can chuck in an average condition Motorsport bumper (in white) if you were interested in repainting. -A wee bit of clear coat is coming off the front, and some paint chips indicate red paint underneath? -No Cert for the engine/gearbox conversion, but managed to get a WOF no problems, failed on Tyres (all new), headlights (couldn't adjust beams so changed to ellipsoids), wiper blades. -Speedo reads over, due to leaving the 4cyl gauge. -The battery is in the boot (yay), but is only fastened with rope at this stage to a pillar (does the trick) -Driver side door card of course has a bit of issue, stays on fine, but the top trim is peeling of the retainers so it wobbles a bit, all the rest are wonderful -Power steering tends to have a bit of a whine when it gets warm, have a spare PS pump at home so can chuck that in too. -When I relocated the battery to the rear, the hole in the firewall where the battery cable comes through isn't fully sealed. I was going to expanding-foam the hole up but never got around to it. -Passenger electric window goes up and down, but only in segments at a time so you have to stab the button a wee bit -Check-oil tube isn't fastened to the engine (don't know why it didn't come with the stem that attaches it), so you have to hold it when you pull the dipstick out -Reverse lights are disconnected (believe all it needs is a new reverse switch on the trans) -Sunroof works, but carpet is peeling off -A wee bit of a squeak coming from somewhere, and usually in reverse. Maybe a wheel bearing or something but haven't checked out in detail. I'm not asking for much, the car cost me $3200 when I purchased it 2 years ago, the wrecked 325is cost me $2000, and I spent a good $1000+ on all new gaskets, etc, and countless hours, blood and sweat haha. So realistically, I'm not expecting to 'make' any money on the car, but let me know what's realistic Feel free to come and view. I work from home so am around most of the time. I am in Lower Hutt (Wellington) Here are a few pictures, including the dents and scratches Have a great week Bimmersporters! I will upload a few new pictures if/when the rain/hail calms down a bit. Nick

1 pointIt seems like a small price to pay as the owner, when youre selling a car worth 30k+... wouldnt it be peace of mind for prospective buyers to just get the cert done? Just a thought not having a go or anything

1 pointThanks guys! The muffler alone is pretty loud! I think the high flow cats and resonator section will eliminate some of the rasp though it will probably sound even louder compared to the stock sections. I'll upload a little video of the muffler alone when I get home. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

1 pointSchedules are made to be not followed precisely. My schedule is completely wallet reliant and assumes that nothing catastrophic happens to the car in the meantime (although engine/trans failure is an excuse to jump to the long term goals!).

1 pointI love your precise project time frame. Very nice indeed. Dibs on those tips.
