2 pointsA few days ago, I decided to go ahead and purchase a mate for the singular Schnitzel that was sitting so lonely in my drive.. And so, back I came with a pretty neat little car. An E46 328 Manual, I really couldn't go wrong.. And in that Alpine white colour, it was near perfect for the price. And it has 4 doors.. Which is still a concept I seem to be adjusting to again I have a few things in store for this one, having completed majority of the cosmetical changes all over one weekend... And so the list begins. She came stock standard, nothing has been touched (okay maybe the rims somewhere down the line) but pretty clean and pristine for the age/kms (which is 169.. Not yet ready to say 170) No dents, dings etc etc. Full service history with Team McMillian (to the understanding of those who work there..... can't seem to find it on paper *tut tut*) So overall, a really nice base to start with, well I thought so anyway. Purchased the car on Thursday (10th) Things completed: - Tinted Windows (Friday) done by the Forum Sponsors CarFolie (great job!) - Headed over to Ray @ HellBM for a scan and some flasher bits and bobs to add on.. So on went clear rear indicators and clear sides (need to find fronts) - Repaint of rims to a satin/matte black - Grills to a matte/satin black - Stupid 'M' badge removed from the rear end also I bought some Eibach springs, but unfortunately got the wrong ones (thanks to a handy dandy mate who can't read ... Might see how they could look anyway if they don't sell... It really does feel like a boat compared to the Schnitzel. This car is going to be the weekend/fun car and also being a bit dusty with 3 pedals, clean up my manual skills. Got a few more plans install for it, but I also need not forget my Schnitzel which is due for a bit of work. - Bushes - Wrap interior (current wood trim look) - Short Shifter - Clutch Kit (seems to slip a tiny bit under load) - Exhaust - Lowering system of some form - And maybe some 'go fast' ideas if the budget allows. Some before and after photo's. Before are first two.

1 pointWholly implausible for 15 years away. I have nightmares about this level of vehicle autonomy. First three pedals, now two pedals, next no pedals?!

1 pointThe warranty for the rebuild will be BMW afaik Parts are still 10-14 days out! Rebuild hasn't started yet.. ugh. Have just ordered a Genuine BMW Performance Spoiler something I've wanted since I got the car. Just need to get the LCI Tails as well now. Maybe an Akra or M Performance exhaust, Evolve remap, Got the wheels to go on too

1 pointAs qube says, unless the fix cost is uneconomic get it repaired. My personal opinion is max 8k, assuming preventative maintenance has been done. If it's in rough condition cosmetically I'd not go any higher than 6.5k for an I6, 7k for a V8 My basis is the cars and engines are getting older, if the head gasket for example were to fail, cracking the head the rebuild cost would be almost the cars value. Again, I am cheap, so others opinions will differ. All depends what you get offered for it vs. what you believe its worth

1 pointHaha! Says you with two lol. My excuse is the manual factor. Need to have one of each right? Sadly I can't cook to save my life, so Miss Chef doesn't apply here

1 pointFor $150 you can't go wrong really can you. There's a lot of other things you could throw $150 at that won't go anywhere near as far.

1 pointThere are some brutal Pot Holes on Oteha Valley road just after the 2nd round about heading from Torbay. The rain had caused them to get quite deep. They have been patched a number of times. Be careful when it rains if you are driving through.

1 pointYeah, no problem. Pretty sure I've got one in the garage. Out Howick way if you can't find one closer.

1 pointLast night I watched "The Moaning of Life" about a moaning pom who travels around the world to moan. This thread is indistinguishable from that. Except he's at least funny.

1 pointReckon the three Kombis it's perched on would be worth more, even in that rusted out state! Such a bloody waste!!!!!

1 pointRoadworkers pulling up to tinny houses in their trucks probably has a lot to do with the quality of the repairs....

1 pointHere in Christchurch we just stick road cones in the holes, sometimes more than one.

1 pointI have 40 of them from the one time I went to the supermarket. Free to a good home.

1 pointI never bothered to take them. The employees here are very special. Anything extra and they get confused so i didnt bother

1 pointYeah I was always drawn to the singular round headlights and the "squareness" of the BMW body shape, lost after the e34, maybe the e38 is borderline-ish. I waited and waited till the right one came up for me to pounce on. I practically stole it at $2500, but right now these e34's are the time to buy. Right on the cusp of all being trashed and disappearing from the roads as they get older and handed on, passed in. There's still some gems around if you've $3K-ish in your pocket for one. It's a hell of a lot of car for the same cost as a Toyota Corolla.
