I have relisted this at $21k after getting the diff rebuilt. If I were in the market for a BMW racecar there wouldn't be a better deal out there. The reason for selling is because I have bought this:

I've had 4x tub44s done a valve cover, nothing else. All high mileage. I love them, but I understand I will need to do work at some stage !!!!! Cooling systems are a problem but if you transplant no issues, if transplanting your probably fixing most of the potential majors anyway, likely get 80000 is before even touching it. My two cents

'Tis now mine for a very reasonable $3K and, thanks to an equally reasonable quote from Ray at HellBM, it will go straight there for vanos seal repair!! Sweet!

Meet a previous owner of this car who told me that when he/his father had it, they swapped a motor for one with 120,000 kms. Judging by the way it runs I believe this.

I'll stick to using the yellow ones. James - thanks for fixing them. (But we still need a thumbs up one!

I wouldn't call them garbage per say. Michael listed the things that can go wrong(mostly M62TU related), doesn't mean they will. Like any product, if read all the things on the internet that can go wrong with it you'll be scared to buy anything. As i mentioned earlier if you spent ~1k on preventative maintenance then M62 non vanos reliability isn't an issue. Id say making it fit is probably the bigger problem than the engine itself.

Get the car up on axle stands or ramps and have a look underneath with a flashlight. You should be able to see markings on the side of the box (Passengers side I think) saying GETRAG and then a long number starting 220.xxx... , 240.xxx,... or 260.xxx,... I hope this helps!

Make sure it's got the right plug on it, and is DC rapid charge compatible or you may as well throw the electric motor away!

Yup andy has nailed it on the head.....definetly use the m3 hubs to centre the wheel properly, then means you can use m3 brakes, if you use e36 hubs you cant use the m3 brakes.

Recaro seats are in! Huge thanks to atlantiskiwi for his help. The seat rails took a fair amount of 'massaging' with a dremel to fit. NZKW straight bolt on ... Need to bolt up properly but we're 90% of the way there. Seats1 by Christian Taylor, on Flickr Seats2 by Christian Taylor, on Flickr

Parts arrived. Forgot to order some extra critical bits though, so an extra 2 sets of vanos spring plates ordered. Vanos unit oil pump washer and circlips replaced with revision B versions. The new circlip retains more equal preasure on the washer beneath it. Have seen these end up in the oil pan.. You can see here how the pump drive has been squashing the washer and slowly eating away at it. New o-rings for the bank 1 vanos unit. The one under the 24mm socket in this pic doesn't seat nicely.. and ends up doing this if not seated correctly prior to instalment. This is the bank 2 vanos unit freshly removed : Installed the timing cover on bank 1 and removed bank 2. Not fun. bank 1 vanos unit back on. Timing set after and came out perfect after rotating the crank around for 3 cyl # 1 ignition TDC revolutions.

lol. I one had to plan an enclosure around a stroller. How priorities change. Nice work BTW. It'll now be another 6 months before you get another uninterrupted day to work on the car.
