Hi all, Have recently purchased a 2005 E46 318 touring. Have always admired Bimmers, so looking forward to doing some kms in this car! Not planning any major mods or anything, other than perhaps a stereo upgrade. Any advice greatly received. Cheers, Angus.

I hate that awesome stuff like this ALWAYS comes up for sale just after you buy a car. I forget his name, but there is another member on here that had trouble selling (and didnt sell) his E34 540i/6 that had some real nice mods for under 10k.

Okay so I have just done a swap on my Ti from an Auto M44b19 to an M52B28 manual. I ran with OBD1 sensors and an older computer to get around EWS issues. If your car that the engine is going into has EWSII then you can just swap the EWS modules, DME, and key chip. Im not sure on what to do if the project car isnt EWSII. As far as radiator goes, the 6 has a much larger radiator and if you have the donor car there you may as well swap it in! I also swapped my front sway bar to make sure that it would clear the sump otherwise the 4 cylinder one sits a few mm away from the sump... I didnt want to risk it and had a 6 cylinder one there, 15 min job to swap them over anyway! My DME and engine were orignially auto, however were converted to manual before I bought the donor car and pulled everything apart. I still have all the loom for the Auto box attached but have it all tucked away and the auto box computer isnt plugged in. What model Getrag box do you have? I am running a 220, and know of a guy who races a s50b32 and runs getrag 220's. Im unsure of the clutch and flywheel differences, however my shifter had been extended. This is something that is not quite clear, some people need to lengthen the shifter linkages when putting a 4 cylinder box on a 6 and some dont. Good luck with the swap! The extra power is soo much nicer! However you may want a medium case diff if you dont currently have one to handle the extra power!

[offtopic] if the crash is serious enough, they can pull information including the coding data from the ABS module in the lab in wellington to determine all sorts of things. This includes what the car was shipped from the factory as. [/offtopic]

Hi Dave, you might consider getting your amp repaired? It might be worth calling Ashley Audio in Wellington (if they're still around), they specialised in fixing the really tricky stuff as well as sales/installation. Iain has always been excelent to deal with. Come to think of it, it's time I had my MD deck looked at... I'll search them out.

I'm feeling like a bit of a dumbass at the moment. The 750i has been off the road for a couple of months because is started running very rough. Based on previous experience I thought these symptoms where related to the intake manifold gaskets. ha ha. So a while back the battery went flat and I took one out of a spare car and put that in. Worked well. For a while anyway. The car started running rough so I parked it. I needed to move it today so went out and ofcourse after sitting so long the battery was dead. I'd charged up the original battery last night and put that in and guess what? The cars running sweet as. I should have known from all the reading of done on these that they're very sensitive and a slightly low battery can cause all sorts of problems. So I've been cruising all day in the 750i with no problems. It's firing on all 12 and super smooth as it should be..
